Makeup Or No Makeup

What look is your preference and why.

I'm not sure if I want to bother anymore but don't want people to think I'm plain/invisible.

Very little for the summer. Just tinted moisturiser/ tinted suncream, mascara and lipstick. Also rub a little lipstick on apples of my cheeks.

Precipice · 13/07/2023 13:31

I don't wear make-up at all.

On other women, I prefer no make-up or very light make-up. I find heavy make-up actively disturbing to look at. When women have these really long eyelashes and these very prominent lips and a contoured face, they look very odd to me. Uncanny valley?

Tinyplant · 13/07/2023 13:32

I like very little makeup as a compromise.

No foundation/powder ever, but use concealer on any spots/discolouration if needed (e.g. 5p amount or less, blended in).

Bit of lip tint. Cheek tint and/or bronzer if feeling fancy.

Mascara every day. Bit of eyebrow pencil if needed.

Good skincare is a must, moisturise to look hydrated.

If you’re used to a full makeup routine every day, then just cutting out steps gradually might be a good way to do it.

zerocapacity · 13/07/2023 13:33

Not keen on foundation anymore.
Prefer concealer on any red areas.
Black Eyeliner on inner rim and different colour thicker line underneath brown/gold colour and lip plumper/treatment.
Don't use mascara as much.

Yes to makeup.

I love wearing makeup and in fact it is getting more colourful the older I get!

Tinyplant · 13/07/2023 13:36

FWIW I think women look lovely with their natural skin showing through (freckles, acne, whatever). I don’t see the appeal of foundation on anyone.

Mascara, eyeliner, lipstick feels like more of a creative/stylistic choice to me.

It took me many years to wean off wearing foundation and powder every day in my teens and early 20s.

Aquamarine1029 · 13/07/2023 13:41

I wear make-up every single day, even at home, and it's because it makes me feel good. That said, I wear very light and natural make-up. I use a light cc cream, a little blush, a bit of concealer under my eyes, a natural colour lip gloss, and mascara. I can't be bothered with any kind of eye makeup aside from mascara, and I don't think I need it, anyway. I would also never bother with highlighters and contouring.

ABugWife · 13/07/2023 13:41

I love doing my makeup and transforming my face but honestly I can never be bothered these days.

As a minimum I tidy my brows with gel or pencil, concealer on my dark circles, mascara and a sweep of blush.

If I am going full on make up it's

Primer
Bb cream
Foundation
Contour
Bronzer
Blush
Highlighter
Eyebrow gel and eyeshadow pencil
Mascara
Lashes
Lip liner
Lips stick
Powder
Setting spray
At least 3 shades of eyeshadow blended beautifully.

So you can see why I just cba most days. Looks great when I do it though.

HappiDaze · 13/07/2023 14:01

I like going makeup free my skin hates all SPF so I wear my foundation with SPF which offers me the protection I need when I'm outside.

I know it works because I'm completely wrinkle free and have worn foundation pretty much daily since my teens when I'm out of the house.

themummylife · 13/07/2023 14:04

Very little makeup. Usually I fill in my eyebrows, line my upper waterline with some brown eyeshadow and wear some cream blush. If I’m going out out I’ll use some concealer, lipstick and mascara.

HappiDaze · 13/07/2023 14:05

My makeup has always been subtle and enhancing so I guess more of the natural look.

I love mascara and lipstick because it really brightens up my face and make me feel put together

I would never ever go to work without subtle make up because I like to look professional and well maintained.

Drews · 13/07/2023 14:11

Once in a blue moon if I fancy it. At most it would be blush, mascara and a lipgloss. My skin tone is pretty even so I would never use foundation, contour or highlighter and I have hooded eyes so there's no point using coloured shadows and liner.

happytobemrsg · 13/07/2023 14:11

I love how transformative makeup can be & I really enjoy using / applying it. I’m not amazing, but I enjoy looking at tutorials & product reviews too. I only wear makeup if I leave the house. During summer I wear daily:

Concealer
Glow highlighter
bronzer
blusher
eyebrow filler

Other seasons are the same plus some light foundation. If I’m feeling fancy I’ll do eyeshadow & mascara. I’d love to be really good at winged eyeliner but it seems impossible to me.

zerocapacity · 13/07/2023 15:12

I would like nice eyebrows and haven't got a lot of spare money to get done often.
I have them threaded, trimmed and plucked occasionally for £3-£5.
I see women with perfect shaped eyebrows and mine never look like that even after threading.
Any tips?

I am just shy of 50 and despite putting a full face on daily in lockdown I have recently just decided I on the whole prefer my look without any on. My skin is looking the best it ever has (it's still discoloured/freckley etc, not perfect at all just used to have really bad skin)

It also just looks mask like whatever I try - it might be partly as I'm wearing some seriously heavy SPF after having melanoma removed from my face/head but more because I just am bothered about things other than how I look now.

Pigeon31 · 13/07/2023 16:59

I don't wear makeup - I assume people who see me regularly just get used to it.

On other people, I do really admire well applied makeup, it's an art.

NeverThatSerious · 13/07/2023 17:06

Depends on the occasion really. Everyday, generally I just put on some mascara and maybe a wee dab of tinted moisturiser. Eyebrows are tinted, so alrea dry ‘done’. For something like a wedding, I go the whole hog; primer, foundation, blusher/bronzer, highlight, a degree of contouring (minor), eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, sometimes false lashes, lipstick, lipliner, setting spray… 😅 and then of course, there’s ‘in between’ occasions too. I like my look either way really, but always feel more confident to be make up free in the middle of summer so I have a good tan going.

Summer2424 · 13/07/2023 17:19

Hi @zerocapacity i love the no make up look, it's so natural and easy. Now in my 40's i need a bit of makeup which i wish i didn't have to do, but i want to look a bit presentable not like i just rolled out of bed lol!

fireflyloo · 13/07/2023 17:58

I love make up. I wouldn't say I overdo it but I do like a bit of glam.

PowerBMI · 13/07/2023 18:06

for me it totally depends.

for work I am trying to reduce how much I wear as I don’t like the feel very much, anymore. But also to save time.

I have a big event coming up and will get my make done for me for that.

If I am just at home, I just do skin care. I spend a lot of time outside when at home so like to top up my sunscreen throughout the day.

I don’t really have many feelings about other women’s make up. At work there’s some amazingly stylish women who wear minimal or non. Some go all out.

The only time I ever think anything negative is when they have the really long strip lashes on, that haven’t had old glue cleaned off them and you can see old dried glue. But that’s more of a hygiene thing. I don’t think that’s good for peoples eyes.

optimistic40 · 13/07/2023 18:11

Usually I use:

concealer on any redness
A bit of (light) bronzer / glow serum
Eyeliner

I don't mind whether others wear it or not, up to them! Prefer a natural look but think the heavier stuff is quite fashionable on the younger women.

declutteringmymind · 13/07/2023 21:09

Either.

But I do like my face to reflect how I feel. So if I'm rushed or tired, it won't be on.

DaisyUpsy · 13/07/2023 21:11

I very rarely wear makeup. I would rather have the extra 10 minutes in bed .

DontBeBitterGlitter2023 · 13/07/2023 21:13

I have three makeup modes...

Absolutely none at all (though I do have lash extensions and tinted brows). This gets me through almost all day every day

Full face but subtle - maybe twice a week, usually to the pub quiz and when I'm working behind a bar in my second job

Full glam - once or twice a month maybe

I do absolutely love the ritual of applying makeup, trying out new products, techniques etc but I also like very high end stuff that I'm not going to waste on popping to the post office!

BookHereNoFee · 13/07/2023 21:14

I wear full makeup most days. But I love applying it so it doesn't feel like a chore and prefer how I look with it on. I don't bother when going camping but prefer me with it.

Summer when I have a tan I probably wear foundation 50% of the time.
