Hi!
I have been invited to two weddings this summer and am looking for a dress.

The big thing is - I don't want to spend money/ buy something to wear only for
those venues, but I would like to wear it every day.

I was thinking about getting one of the beaded bags by Accessorize so it will
make it more dressy, but I can't find anything that speaks "take me"😅

I LOVE this one from a self-portrait, but it is not an everyday dress and is
pricey:
www.self-portrait.com/products/blue-prairie-midi-dress

I was also thinking about this one from Aspiga:
www.aspiga.com/collections/all-dresses/products/victoria-cotton-sateen-v-neck-printed-dress-waterlily-pink-white

but not convinced by the sleeve- I have larger bust.

Also
Than I found this one but not too sure if its too basic:
hanah.co.uk/products/ruby-maxi-dress

Please help!

Large bust
165cm
cannot have open back or be too tight 😂

Have you looked at Molby the label, they do good quality handmade dreses for everyday wear that can be dressed up or down.

LittleMrsPretty · 12/07/2023 11:03

Can also do custom made

cactidream · 12/07/2023 11:05

Yes, I have seen their website- but it takes I think around 2/3 weeks for them to ship. I need something for next Friday:)

All three are awful. Hth.

The first one would be ok if it didn't like like it was see through. The other two are what someone would wear to sports day.

Verite1 · 12/07/2023 11:14

The last one is awful. Middle one is Ok. I tried on the first one for a wedding. I did like it but it is very fitted with not much give. I found that if it fitted my waist it was a bit small on the bust. All depends on your measurements etc.

Self-portrait is fully lined - but expensive and not an everyday dress.
I was worried it might be tight, and when I eat a bit more can be uncomfortable😓

I was leaning toward the last one as it looks universal and flowy- now I do not know😖

The first one is nice enough and no need for a sparkly bag!

The second and third are similar to what some local mums wear for coffee or taking the kids to the park.

Rixo, ME+EM, BA&SH etc all worth a look.

AnotherDayAnotherUsernameForMeAgain · 12/07/2023 11:24

Also don’t discount Warehouse, Oasis, Karen Millen etc.

Swearwolf · 12/07/2023 11:28

Ted Baker have some lovely dresses that would fit the bill. I got a gorgeous midi dress from there for the last wedding I went to, one which could be dressed up or down, and got so many compliments on it!

Try Nobody's Child

I like the Self Portrait one but from the back it looks like you can see her actual bum through it! It probably looks better in real life.
The Aspigal one is nice but is more special in the orangey sold out colour. I'm not gone on that white-ish colour but that's just personal taste.
The last one is a nice every day dress, but not special enough for a wedding in my opinion.

If I got two weddings in one summer out of a dress and maybe one or two more events in it's lifetime I'm happy with it. The self Portrait one is a classic style they do and have done for years so you should be able to pull it out next year or the year after if you need to.

I also love Ba&sh & Sezanne for special occasion dresses that are lovely but not so formal they couldn't be worn on a night out. But the reality is I usually only wear them for those special occasions and not on a normal night out as I don't have so many normal (aka any) nights out.
I also love the look of Rixo - and they look like very versatile dresses - and Me&Em though I don't own any.

NatashaDancing · 12/07/2023 12:50

I don't like the Self Portrait one at all. The third one is an everyday and pricey for what it is.

There are lots of great suggestions on this thread. The OP there is the bride but wanted a non- bridal dress.

Thank you for all suggestions!

I haven't seen a bum in a self-portrait dress; now I do😎😁

Never heard of Rixo - they seem expensive for what they are selling, but some designs are nice (not for bigger boobs though)

I completely forgot that Ted Baker exists! thank you for reminder

Self portrait dress won't be see-through. I've bought one before. However they are small made...just a warning. Try Vinted, I've bought loads of lightly used dresses on there - one being from Self Portrait, and 3 Ted Baker dresses at a fraction of the original price. John Lewis also quite often have Ted Baker dresses reduced.

saj90 · 12/07/2023 13:28

Have you tried Hope & Ivy?

What about going for something completely plain but with a hint of drama, which can be cleverly - and differently - accessorised for the weddings, but which would also suit numerous everyday occasions too?https://www.cos.com/en_gbp/women/womenswear/dresses/product.asymmetric-gathered-midi-dress-blue.1160631004.html

That is why I was thinking about this one:

https://hanah.co.uk/products/ruby-maxi-dress
or this pattern:
https://hanah.co.uk/products/ruby-maxi-dress-floral

Together with this bag:
https://www.accessorize.com/uk/beaded-fold-over-clutch-5900634000.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=surfaces&utm_campaign=shopping-feed&utm_content=free-google-shopping-clicks&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-aL08qKJgAMVMwgGAB3GGAXSEAQYASABEgIBVvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

And a darker blazer (this summer is cold)

And I could wear it on an everyday basis as well easily.

I fell in love with this pattern:
https://www.meandem.com/satin-graphic-tulip-print-maxi-dress-cream-purple-orange

But not the fit:/

I always find it difficult because I look horrible in most dresses because of my big chest.
Wtaching pictures online - I love this satin-like dresses that are everywhere now, with tiny straps, but I know I will look and feel bad in it+ the issue with the right bra comes up.

Thank you all for the recommendations- I will be checking all those brands now with a cup of tea!

V-neck is good for big chests, imo.

Themaghag · 12/07/2023 15:23

I'm so sorry Cactidream but I really hate the Ruby Maxi dress - to me it looks totally blah, very mumsy and seems to be really expensive for what it is. There's zero drama there! I never wear prints myself - they always wear me - but I do like the Me and Em dress very much, although it strikes me as another occasion dress rather than something you might wear every day. If you are prepared to spend a bit of money why not look at the Outnet for something designer? There's loads of choice on there! https://www.theoutnet.com/en-gb/shop/clothing/dresses/wedding-guest-dresses?orderBy=8&pageNumber=2

If you have a big bust you need a v-neck otherwise you will look matronly - I should know! Some of the dress suggestions are beautiful
