Anyone given up make up?

I’ve always been someone who wears makeup but over the last few years I’ve worn less and less but recently I’ve become so annoyed with how long it takes me to get ready in the mornings! I really want to give up wearing makeup, but I feel slightly uncomfortable without any on! I get the odd spot and I have the usual pores and slight scars from spots but nothing horrific. Has anyone given up make up? Or at least foundation??

I've not worn any make-up at all for about a year and a half. Before that, I used to wear some (foundation and maybe lipstick) on particular occasions (going out). My last time was in November 2021.

I've grown against it politically. It's just part of unfair beauty expectations imposed upon women. You don't get men feeling that their natural face isn't fine to go out with as it is.

tracylamont13 · 11/07/2023 20:33

I haven't worn any for around 20 years.

Crikeyalmightey · 11/07/2023 20:36

I used to do a full make up daily, but in the past 2 years have only bothered on occasion. Not I just use a little concealer, lipstick and blush. No eye makeup.

defi · 11/07/2023 20:38

Yes hate the stuff. I've got lip blush, under eye fillers and micro bladed eye brows instead.

florenceandthemac · 11/07/2023 20:40

I haven't given it up completely, but whereas 3 years ago I wouldn't have left the house without it, I now do so often.

I use Bondi Sands tanning drops after my moisturiser (supposed to put them in moisturiser but I layer it on afterwards) every other day. This gives me a bit of a glow but also slight coverage which makes me feel better

Doingmybest12 · 11/07/2023 20:42

I seem to have stopped wearing it. I do think many people look fab with it, and I'm sure I look better with it. But it seems an odd thing to do , painting your face, covering your face. I feel its a bit like wearing a veil, as its not ok for people to see your real face. Also I can't be bothered, am not very good at it and now I need to wear glasses to do it it seems such a faff. It takes getting used to I found and as I say I'm sure I could look better with.

NatTheGnat · 11/07/2023 20:43

I go through phases where I hate make up and won't wear it and then change my mind!

I think the slow fade out approach is good. I couldn't go from full face of make up everyday to suddenly none. I'd feel odd somehow.

FourEyesGood · 11/07/2023 20:47

I used to wear primer, foundation, concealer and powder but these days I just moisturise and use sunscreen. I still wear mascara and brow stuff because my brows and lashes are fair, but my skin is loads better since I gave up the foundation. I’m mid-forties.

Oldermum84 · 11/07/2023 20:48

I stopped after my son was born 3 years ago as I didn't have the time and we went into lockdown so didn't see anyone anyway, then just haven't bothered since. I never wore that much to start with. I occasionally put on some tinted moisturizer which has SPF in so is a good all rounder.

Usernamen · 11/07/2023 20:50

I wear very little these days. Too lazy.

Flatlined · 11/07/2023 20:50

I would like to still wear it - I used to have eyeliner, tinted moisturiser, mascara, shadow, and lippy, all very light touch as I could never master the fully made up look. But whatever I put on now just looks caked and feels icky so I just want to wipe it off straight away. So I’ve given up. Grey hair too, I could probably try a bit harder.

lindyloo57 · 11/07/2023 21:15

I wear makeup everyday as I feel I need it, too look half decent, but don't wear foundation, I either wear a cc cream eborian, or this week I've been wearing a tinted spf with a little laura geller balance and brighten over the top,

GCAcademic · 11/07/2023 21:21

Yes, gave it up six months ago. I actually prefer the way I look without it now.

Twillow · 11/07/2023 21:22

Never really worn any. Occasionally tinted moisturiser and blush. Can't bear anything on my eyelashes or lips!

Twillow · 11/07/2023 21:24

Also it makes me sad how much time my girl children devote to it - can take them literally hours to get made up and they look 'beautiful' but not 'themselves' if you know what I mean. Kind of cloney.

singlemum93 · 11/07/2023 21:43

Yes I started not wearing foundation in summer a few years ago and just wore a little bit of bronzer/blush on cheeks. Then since having a baby (now 2) I gave up with foundation and mascara altogether. I only wear them when I'm doing something special but I find my skin is a lot nicer although I do invest more in skincare now! But I actually prefer just the blush these days

AsLongAsIHaveMyTea · 11/07/2023 21:44

I live with boys and I envy how quickly they get ready in the mornings and feel daft having to spend so much time on my appearance. I am quite an outdoors person and never wear makeup when I’m outside running or walking or kayaking and I always feel fresh and “me” so I don’t know why I feel I need to wear it at work it out and about in town? I’ve done 2 days make up free I think
ill keep going and see how it makes me feel

I've given up bras and make up 😂

Though I did get the Lisa Eldridge foundation which is like a BB that is a stand alone and makes your skin look better but very natural coverage. That's all I can be arsed with now.

Bobski123 · 11/07/2023 21:46

I don't wear any apart from concealer on my spots. I'm too lazy to apply it and plus I'm not very good at applying it well.

BeverlyHa · 11/07/2023 21:47

no, not at all. but a good colour lipstick yes

SwordToFlamethrower · 11/07/2023 21:55

Only if I'm going out somewhere.

Day to day nope. Not for years!

I hate the way it feels on my skin and can't wait to get the stuff off me!

SoundTheSirens · 11/07/2023 22:00

Yep, stopped wearing it for all but interviews and very special occasions about 15+ years ago, and gave it up altogether about three years ago when I developed facial eczema in peri menopause.

Spamchops · 11/07/2023 22:01

During covid I had to wear a mask at work and got used to only using mascara. Now, sans mask, I am too lazy to go back to foundation. No one has stepped back in horror at me! I am getting more aware of environmental impact of such products so that also encourages me to stop. I do wear makeup for a night out though. All my makeup is so out of date - does anyone replace it yearly or whatever it is they tell you to do?

FatCatatPaddingtonStation · 11/07/2023 22:02

Gave up makeup apart from nights out 20 years ago..gave it up on nights out about 5 years ago. Then i ditched bras too! Why should women spend a fortune to make themselves look different? Obviously it’s great if you choose it but I have no compulsion any more to do so. So freeing.

Leapintothelightning · 11/07/2023 22:03

Since having my second DC, I very rarely put makeup on! I used to religiously put it on every day, even if the only place I was going was a 5 min trip to the shops. Now I will only put it on for an occasion or night out. I just don't have the energy to do it and/or care about what others think of me anymore
