Cornwall style - how to nail it?

So I have lost a couple of stone since having a baby 2 years ago and I’d like to get a few new bits for the summer.

We are going on holiday to Cornwall the week after next and I’ve always loved the beachy look so I’m going to try and achieve it! But I haven’t been to Cornwall since pre baby and pre covid so I’m feeling very uninspired.

Could someone please tell me what people are wearing down there these days and where from? Im desperate to feel good and not frumpy like I usually do in my stained and ill fitting leggings 😃

Of course I will be taking the necessary fleece and waterproof jacket but it would be nice to have some other options!

This made me chuckle OP! I live in Cornwall and most days, me and friend's look like we've been dragged backwards through a hedge! Normally trousers with dog paw prints on, old jumper with holes in the elbows or stained tee shirt. Definitely no make-up and hair scrunched back in a messy bun. You probably don't want to look like me...

NatTheGnat · 11/07/2023 20:39

My sister used to live in Cornwall. It's gorgeous there, but stylish it is not!

By all means go for the coastal chic look though.

stickybear · 11/07/2023 20:48

Passenger might be up your street? They do lovely hoodies and sweatshirts

Mezmer · 11/07/2023 20:53

Please. There is no such thing. I am Cornish and there is no ‘Cornish Style’ unless you count supermarket clothes or the naff ‘nautical’ crap you get in Seasalt. Pls stop imposing you bougie ideals on the place. People go to Cornwall to get away from that type of thing. Just wear comfy warm stuff as it’s always 5 degrees cooler here.

Crikeyalmightey · 11/07/2023 20:58

T shirt, flip flops, shorts, fleece. Done.

Movinghouseatlast · 11/07/2023 20:59

Buy a shot load of stuff from White Company. It's beachy/linen. I love it.

Movinghouseatlast · 11/07/2023 20:59

Shit not shot!

FragrantBumFluff · 11/07/2023 21:05

Lol @Lordofmyflies this is also me usually! Dogs and toddlers certainly aren’t conducive to looking stylish that’s for sure. Although both are coming with so maybe my quest is futile!

I will check out the brands mentioned though, I just fancy looking half decent for the first time in ages!

No makeup, blonde streaked hair worn down and not heatstyled because of the mizzle, shorts, sandals, sea glass jewellery, waterproof raincoat and don't wear all new clothes or you'll look too rich to be Cornish!

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 11/07/2023 21:36

Baling twine belt, oversized moth eaten knitted jumper, wellies from Cornwall farmers and slightly to big faded and worn cords purchased a million years ago from Par market (the Gucci of Cornwall).

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 11/07/2023 21:42

If we're going to Par Market please don't forget the wolef fleece.

Bimblesalong · 11/07/2023 21:44

Went last week. Really windy but got sunburned.
shorts, t shirt, fleece, beanie to pull over hair as brimmed hats blew off. Also worse longer cargo trousers at times to stop legs getting sandblasted.

easy, relaxed, natural fibres and layers.

Bimblesalong · 11/07/2023 21:45

*wore not worse

Gardenerboo · 11/07/2023 21:53

@PelvicFloorClenchReminder Yes to the fashions from Par Market. Made me laugh!!

shinook123 · 11/07/2023 21:58

I've had a good chuckle at this too 🤣
I've lived in Cornwall almost 30 years ,I'm.not cornish but my family are
I still get suprised by the fashions here !
I live in quite a middle class small town, most of the people who live here are quite wealthy (we are not )
The main look is to look slightly homeless ,think really scruffy,a bit grubby and matted hair or
Wear colourful onesies and bobble hats (even on the hottest say)
Wear various layers of similar colours for example, loose purple trousers, with a mid length flared lilac skirt over the top,at least a vest top and cardigan in different purple shades.
Wolf fleeces sadly have still not disappeared. As other posters have suggested par market 😄 it will give you a glimpse of the true fashion sense in Cornwall
Surf brands at least for women are out of fashion
Long dresses and trainers or birkenstocks or flip flops are the in as are jumpsuits

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 11/07/2023 22:06

@shinook123 ‘middle class town’ Camborne?

inappropriateraspberry · 11/07/2023 22:07

'Cornish style' is worn by tourists. Real people living in Cornwall wear the usual - jeans, t-shirts, the odd dress if the sun's out!

@shinook123 ‘middle class town’ Camborne?

No one would ever call Camborne middle class! 😆
Agree with PPs. Always take a jumper and a waterproof coat. I do have a nice Joules Pac a Mac, handy for school runs.

Paq · 11/07/2023 22:09

Jam first on your scones and you'll fit right in.

Haha nope
Although I'd love to see Caroline quentin featuring Camborne ,redruth and any of the clays villages

Pretty much this

If you really want to fit in then a fleece with a wolf on it from Pool Market completes the look

But honestly just shorts T-shirts, jeans... layers are good and a waterproof is essential

NancyJoan · 11/07/2023 22:12

Linen shirts, khaki trousers/shorts, Birkenstocks. Don’t try too hard, that’s it really.
