IIRC glycolic acid is AHA and salicylic acid is BHA? Both do largely the same job but salicylic is apparently better for acne prone skins whereas glycolic is recommended for ageing.

SarahC50 · 17/08/2023 18:45

Be careful with that alpha H liquid gold, I spilt some on my white gloss window sill and it stripped the gloss. Ferocious stuff.
I love votary products but not tried the toner. It's ren I don't like at all, I don't think it's a luxury brand or effective at all.

MavisMcMinty · 17/08/2023 19:05

Well I THOUGHT I’d taken a bottle of votary oil out of my stash yesterday, but see it’s actually Disciple Good Skin in a very similar bottle, think I’ll put it back (unopened) and try Votary instead - I have several of their products and haven’t tried any of them yet.

TreesinthePark · 17/08/2023 19:06

Another warning about Alpha H...I remember my face tingling all night when I was trying to sleep! I don't have sensitive skin but found it way too strong.

redredwineub40 · 17/08/2023 19:28

Oh that might make sense why the BHA has worked so well for me! Thanks @Jellycats4life

Housewife2010 · 17/08/2023 20:30

I really like Alpha H, but the first time you use it I would recommend applying it on already dampened cotton wool and putting moisturiser on top. Don't use it more than twice a week. If you're ok with it, then don't dampen the cotton wool next time. Once you feel your skin is happy with it, don't apply moisturiser on top for optimum effect.

How does the moisturiser affect it, do you know @Housewife2010 ?

The instructions on the bottle are that for optimum effect not to put anything on top. I think using a moisturiser with it makes it more gentle, so I used it with one the first couple of times so I could ease into it.

Thanks! I always used it on its own before but saw on QVC they now say put moisturiser on over the top if you prefer.

MavisMcMinty · 17/08/2023 21:34

…almost everything I think I know came from QVC.

If anyone is interested the Alpha H midnight serum is in the TOYL box this month, I just watched a reveal. I use tret so I'm not sure whether to try it alternate nights as it seems to get rave reviews.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 18/08/2023 09:19

@QueefofSheena I'm having a quick look at them online. Seem to have to dig hard for the price. Can you tell me what it costs per month please?

QueefofSheena · 18/08/2023 09:46

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants its £39.99. I heard about the boxes on here as the December one had that EGF serum in a decent size. The boxes have a theme but you can pause. I've paused for hair and tanning product boxes. Last month they had that Freeze Frame wrinkle block stick that I'm slavishly using to see if it lives up to the hype Grin

Pigtailsandall · 18/08/2023 09:47

I have used the Paula's Choice BHA salicylic acid every night now for about 2 years and it's the only thing that's really made a difference to the blackheads around my nose. I find it fairly gentle - I use it after a cleanser, and then wait until my face is totally dry for any serum/moisturiser. I'm not sure if that's what I need to do, but it gives me a chance to brush my teeth and hair in between.

I use the Votary toner in the mornings - I guess I'm in the minority for liking it! I kind of like the slightly fermented smell - reminds me of my grandma's apple orchard when I was child.

countdowntonap · 18/08/2023 15:53

Tried the Malian+Goetz shampoo and conditioner from the latest beauty drop today - have to say that I’m a fan, even though I know some of you on here weren’t. My hair looks really clean and bright. Not sure I can justify it as a regular purchase though.

countdowntonap · 18/08/2023 15:56

Ah, just re-read the description of the shampoo
and it’s a clarifying one. Now I know why my hair looks so clean and bright!

MavisMcMinty · 18/08/2023 16:10

Oh, I was going to give that away, but will give it a go next time I wash my hair (likely in a fortnight).

SwordBilledHummingbird · 18/08/2023 16:55

I love the Malin+Goetz shampoo and conditioner, I even bought full sizes and I never normally rate 'posh' shampoo/conditioner. Dh is using the shampoo too and he also usually prefers cheap stuff.

Twinsandsome · 19/08/2023 11:14

Does anyone know when liberty usually do the next GWP I’m so not interested in the advent and going to get the biologue acid talked about above x

Peridot1 · 19/08/2023 12:46

@Twinsandsome - I think someone mentioned September.

MavisMcMinty · 19/08/2023 13:01

I’m going to spend my credit on the GWP too, if it looks good, and I’ll have another £20 in my account by then to go towards it.

I’m still attracted to the Liberty AC but it means paying an extra £140 of “my own” money, whereas the GWP means I’ll only have to find £50 or so. And next year I’ll have hopefully the full amount of credit for the AC.

RJnomore1 · 19/08/2023 19:38

Another one waiting to see the GWP!

QueefofSheena · 19/08/2023 20:19

Can someone please tell me what Poets of Berlin smells like? I'm tempted to get the 3 x 10 ml and give one to a Bowie loving friend
