Feel a bit meh about the votary toner. Have had it before, didn't feel it was in any way remarkable.

This. I want to stop getting votary please Liberty. Thanks!

LittleBearPad · 17/08/2023 07:45

Yes Votary is becoming a bit ever present.

SwordBilledHummingbird · 17/08/2023 08:47

I like getting Votary but I'm sick of the sight of that toner!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 17/08/2023 08:51

I think that votary toner might become the new dirty protest coffee scrub. It's like they have a warehouse full of it somewhere, and they bang it in everything they can! Though there were a couple of people who liked the coffee scrub. TBF, it left my skin feeling fab, but it was such a pain to clean up after!

Peridot1 · 17/08/2023 09:14

I have the coffee scrub in my stash. A friend’s daughter works for Frank Body and she gave me a gift set of different scrubs. I quite like the green glycolic one and a pink cleansing scrub. Am afraid to try the coffee one!

And like others I like Votary but wasn’t keen on that toner.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 17/08/2023 09:36

I don't like the smell of the toner for a start. Too much of a vinegar smell, which I don't want in a face or body product.

H3lloMums · 17/08/2023 11:25

I felt the toner was too harsh and made my skin break out. really love votary though. shows that its great to get these beauty drops to try out products.

laclochette · 17/08/2023 12:07

The only toner that I really see a massive difference with is the disgustingly expensive, disgustingly stinky, but incredibly effective P50 lotion from Biologique Recherche. Keeps pores clear and makes my skin look like it's been polished - all smooth and glowy. I might just spend my Liberty credit on a bottle...

redredwineub40 · 17/08/2023 12:27

Have you seen the vernix product from biologique - just the name makes me go ewwww but I hear great things..

MavisMcMinty · 17/08/2023 13:09

I love Paula’s Choice BHA toner, might have to buy some to qualify for the GWP next month. One of the very few things I’ve had in beauty boxes that I’d actually repurchase - the very first time I used it I could feel the difference in the smoothness of my skin.

MavisMcMinty · 17/08/2023 13:10

…although now I do want to try the Biologique one mentioned by @laclochette !

Peridot1 · 17/08/2023 13:32

Caroline Hirons raves about the Biologique toners. I didn’t realise Liberty did them. Interesting. I over did Pixi Glow years ago and wrecked my skin so am wary of exfoliating toners now and tend to not use them enough to see any benefit. I think I have a Paula’s Choice and an Alpha Gold in my stash. Must go them a try again. Sensibly!

MavisMcMinty · 17/08/2023 13:40

Alpha A (if that’s the one?) is pretty harsh, I have just opened my last bottle of the stuff having not used it for ages, and even on the first go I was tingling. At most I use it twice a week, but Paula’s Choice seems very mild and non-irritant, with better results.

Peridot1 · 17/08/2023 13:53

Yes that’s the one @MavisMcMinty. I think I used it years ago but only twice a week or so. As far as I remember it is supposed to be used alone. So you use it at night and then don’t apply any other products. May end up using it on my feet if too harsh for face!

Had to go and look at the bottle - Alpha H Liquid Gold is the one I’m talking about. It’s at least 3 years old (although unopened all that time and kept in a dark trunk), but do these glycolic products “go off”/become unstable over time?

It’s great on elbows too!

MavisMcMinty · 17/08/2023 13:57

And I think with their latest formulation, Alpha H says you CAN use moisturisers on top, but to wait a while until all completely absorbed/dried. So that’s what I’m doing this time round.

Peridot1 · 17/08/2023 13:58

Yes it’s the Alpha H Liquid Gold. I won’t be trying it again for a bit as I’ve just had a rosacea break out so am using a medicated cream for that.

redredwineub40 · 17/08/2023 14:33

Paula’s choice AHA is great - i agree though that plus summer sun always prefer to use then at night or in winter.

HundredMilesAnHour · 17/08/2023 15:53

I can't stand the Paula's Choice AHA toner. It feels slimy to me and has zero effect. I much prefer Superdrug's Naturally Radiant Glycolic Toner - it's gentle yet effective and outperforms products costing 10 times as much.

laclochette · 17/08/2023 16:51

You definitely have to be careful with acids don't you. I got carried away and what with the Lotion P50 and retinoids and all, I started to damage my skin barrier. I use P50 2-3 times a week now and only put very gentle and hydrating products over the top (snail mucin and then a Votary moisturizer from a Beauty Drop box actually!) and so far I've been super happy. But you definitely have to work your way up to the right frequency gradually, as it is strong stuff.

MavisMcMinty · 17/08/2023 18:25

It’s the BHA toner I like, haven’t had the Paula’s Choice AHA one.

MavisMcMinty · 17/08/2023 18:26

Look at me talking as if I know what either AHA or BHA means!

redredwineub40 · 17/08/2023 18:41

Oh god, I might have had BHA too. It’s all Greek to me!
