John Lewis leading the charge and reported in the Guardian today. Can’t link from the app.

A/W?

Puffer coats made people look like overgrown maggots anyway

wutheringkites · 08/07/2023 20:16

Good! I need a new one and hate puffer coats!

Niftythrifter · 08/07/2023 20:18

A/W = autumn/winter

Hopefully, people will decide what they want to wear rather than have John Lewis dictate to them.

brokenlore · 08/07/2023 20:18

X-post!

BCBird · 08/07/2023 20:19

If my puffer coat still fits I will be wearing it. CBA

viques · 08/07/2023 20:20

So pleased to hear this, I have some JL vouchers so will be treating myself to a really good smart coat which I hope will see me through the next few years.

Hmmmbetterchangethis · 08/07/2023 20:20

Do people really read these articles, then trot out to buy whatever it is that’s deemed as ‘in’, rather than using their own judgement regarding what they need/like/want?

JeandeServiette · 08/07/2023 20:21

I don't think it will be a big year for coat sales.

Well quiet! And I will embrace my inner maggot, as I love my synthetic down coat, it keeps me warm, and it's lovely for cold nights camping, it's like wearing a sleeping bag!

brokenlore · 08/07/2023 20:22

Argh quite not quiet!

chohiad · 08/07/2023 20:22

Puffer coats passed me by, I'm always really behind and still wearing those blazer coatigan things which I love. I tend to dress quite casually, but do love a trench coat, still wear one I got from Gap 10 years ago. Any links to the coats in question?

coodawoodashooda · 08/07/2023 20:22

Can you please link me to a smart coat.

Thebirdhouse · 08/07/2023 20:22

Smart coats usually mean wool which does not cope well in a wet climate.

I prefer wool coats but I hope it doesn’t mean we are back to heeled leather boots too. I am hoping never to wear heels again!

Lagershandy · 08/07/2023 20:23

Good they made women look like the Mondoshawan aliens in The Fifth Element😄

RockaLock · 08/07/2023 20:23

Back in March, John Lewis said that floral midi dresses would be out of fashion this summer, and that was clearly wrong, so 🤷‍♀️

Good ones do - you can also get waterproofing spray which works wonders

Mouthfulofquiz · 08/07/2023 20:24

I wear a coat depending on what type of weather is going on, and not what I’m told! The maggot comment was a bit rude.

Niftythrifter · 08/07/2023 20:25

John Lewis are doing a smart wool coat ( I don’t know the percentage of wool)from September and under £70.

I knew in creating this thread that it would go the same way as the floral maxi dress one😂😂😂

Why can't you link in the app? Just copy and paste in your reply? (Please Smile)

Niftythrifter · 08/07/2023 20:29

@chohiad I have tried but I don’t get a link.

I will wear whichever of my coats is appropriate for the weather and the activity I am undertaking.

I have a light puffer coat which is good for when it is dry and a bit cold so will use it for that.

What I can't understand is the people who've worn them in the last few months. Big thick ones at that. Aren't they roasting?

WithIcePlease · 08/07/2023 20:31

Bought my first 'puffer' coat in 2003 after seeing Europeans wearing them in January in EuroDisney. They are very warm and practical. I can't see myself giving up on them because of JL.
