John Lewis leading the charge and reported in the Guardian today. Can’t link from the app.

It's obviously an indicator of whether you are young and hip or a practical minded grown up.

I can't understand why anyone has worn any coat during the recent hot weather. Yet I've seen lots of very thick puffer jackets while out and about.

Yet it seems that half the time if you see teens walking to school on a rainy winter morning they're clad only in indoor clothes. Which must mean they spend half the day soaking wet?

It’s an indication that your parents are poor and cannot afford clothes! You dry out by missing lessons.

Handy for funerals. I needed a coat for a funeral last year and getting a smart dark coloured coat was well nigh impossible.

It's really not. This is an affluent area and judging by trainers, bags and phones etc, there's plenty of money available.

I think teens choose not to wear coats. I have often seen them walking to school with hair still wet from their showers, coatless on frosty, icy mornings. Even the ones who wear coats, wear jackets that aren’t long or warm and never with gloves or a hat. I guess it’s about being ‘cool’ over being cold!

It’s all well and good until it gets FREEZING and only a big, ugly down chat will do!

Rubbish!

@BarbaraofSeville My response was irony!!

SirChenjins · 09/07/2023 10:07

Apologies, that went right over my head too

I like my coats to have a hood so that I’m not wrestling with an umbrella. I very rarely choose to buy one without unless it’s not an everyday coat.

I might buy a smart, wool coat for occasional wear but it won’t replace my waterproof jacket and puffer coat. Surely you wear a coat to suit the activity and weather conditions rather than what’s in fashion?
