WEEK ONE AGAIN of www's six week 10year younger bootcamp, Feb/March 08

Welcome to week 1 of the second WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

And as we've had half term and many of us have been lax, this thread is SERIOUS.

ooooh goody a new thread for cod to hide

Iota · 24/02/2008 17:06

I am drawing a veil over the last week and am getting back to the gym tomorrow

Prufrock · 24/02/2008 17:23

Great, putting a marker down on this now. Tonight I will print out my spreadsheet, weigh myself and finish the Maxwell and Kennedy champagne truffles.

unknownrebelbang · 24/02/2008 18:03

Hello everyone.

Don't seem to have been here much this week, but have just caught up with the old thread.

I missed the quiche thread, but am honoured that I take part in a thread worth talking about . Honestly, who cares??

www, you made me larf about the young men at the deli. Why do you think I enjoy helping out at cubs, aside from being erm helpful??? Brightens my days anyway, hehe. The cheek of your friend's DH!!

Chutney! You poor soul.

I have been dreadful at bootcamp this last couple of weeks, but it's only four weeks to my holiday (and Easter) so need to get back on track tomorrow....after DH returns with the MacDs .

Did manage 10 minutes on the ex bike yesterday but didn't have the energy to walk anywhere once we'd been around town.

Today I got up to ensure they boys had got everything required for their competition, went back to bed and woke up at 2.00pm !!!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 24/02/2008 18:13

Roast beef was divine but my Yorkshire puddings suffered from won't-rise-in-a-weedy-aga disease. Marmite sandwiches, lots of fruit and plain popcorn for tea. Gallons of water today.

We didn't go swimming because DS1 isn't well. Nothing particular but he keeps falling asleep. So DH, girls & I had enormous bonfire and they rode whilst I mucked out.

Bath & early night planned. Have a good week all!

cerys · 24/02/2008 18:18

Thank you for letting me boast. I did stretch afterwards, and a man shouted at me to "get a job" . His friend told him off and said "sorry, love", then I twigged that it probably wasn't cans of coke they had in their carrier bag! I run with a group, and we are often being told to "get a life", but that was a first for me!

Prufrock, any truffles left?
Unknown, you must have been tired!

Just about to start the joyous weekly task that is checking 3 children for headlice. Lovely.

LoveAndSqualor · 24/02/2008 18:46

Ah, a lovely new thread ... I feel soothed!

Cerys, what an odd thing for someone to shout. Have looked at it from all sides and cannot work out what he meant. How does running at the weekend mean you don't have a job?

Oh and 16 miles!! good lord, that's some running. Have always been crapola at running, even pre-pg - once round the park (I guess a mile or so?) nearly killed me

WWW, due date is three weeks on thursday! Should he decide to turn up early, that would be fiiiiiiiiiine by me. I'd like my ribcage back. Your food sounds absolutely delicious, btw - I'm jealous.

Very, very quiet day today - haven't even left the house. Muesli and yoghurt for breakfast, filled pasta and an apple and some cheese for lunch, a chocolate digestive and four ginger biscuits and lots of lemon barley (my new favourite tipple). Oh, and two stray quality street I discovered. Now waiting for DP to get back from his parents' with chocolate.

OK, off for a bath, in which I will read some more of the Kate Figes (Duchess, I think it would def still make interesting reading - in fact, I'd be fascinated to hear what you thought of it from the other side of the fence, if you're with me - could send you my copy when I'm done if you like?). I think I will also have a banana sandwich. It's possible that I will eat the banana sandwich in the bath

Have great sunday nights, one and all

WideWebWitch · 24/02/2008 18:56

I just finished the last slice of black pudding but that's it, I don't feel hungry after the fat fest that was my fried lunch so I won't eat anything else today.

Have showered, scrubbed, cleansed and used body lotion all over and Flexitol on my feet and we're all ready for back to school/work/nursery tomorrow, bags packed, trainers by the door, yuk.

I just panicked myself by reading huge spread in The Observer about women drinkers and liver disease etc so am looking forward to being back on wagon and think I may start mixing with soda water again. I used to be a white wine and soda girl, don't know when I went back to straight wine but I drink far more that way and mixing with soda is a good way of keeping hydrated and drinking less wine I find.

Good luck everyone!

Ok I felt my bellies wobble this evening so count me in...... watch this space - off to find sun cream.... x

unknownrebelbang · 24/02/2008 19:25

Erm, just reread my post, for any lurkers in any doubt, I was - of course - referring to leaders...

ChutneyMary · 24/02/2008 19:48

Unknown that is funny - we know what you mean .

WWW, thanks for the thread. Your food sounds great. I try to have a glass of water per glass of wine when out on the lash, but if you are drinking good wine it's a shame to dilute the flavour with soda, IMO.

Batters, thanks for your concern, but i'm fine. The builder probably needs therapy after the sight of my large white bottom but I'm curiously unbothered. Much more freaked by the young groper. WIll avoid that part of town I think.

Cerys, you are amazing. I have enormous bosoms which would need tethering with guy ropes were I to consider running so am deeply in awe of those who can.

L and S, you will bounce back from the birth so much better for being fit. I was in great nick when I had DD1 and was managed to get around fine very shortly after my long labour and em cs. I'm convinced that being fit and healthy helped so you can look forward to getting out and about with your boy very soon.

Hello Duch, sorry DS1 is under the weather. Hope he rallies soon. Your energy is as ever impressive.

Hello iota, Pru and everyone else. looking forward to a good week. Am going to WW on Wed to see if I have delarded a bit so need to be on the straight and narrow for a while.

Today, went to the bathstore to get the bits for our shower room in the new loft. There was a sale on but I got a bit, er carried away and spent rather more than I had anticipated. Looks like our summer holiday may have to be spent in the loft as there won't be the cash to go anywhere else. Went to Pizza Exp for lunch and had a Pollo salad without dressing, croutons and with only half the cheese. No booze either as was driving so may have a glass tonight with my fish before going back on the wagon for the week. This reduction in drinking is making me feel so much better - thanks for the inspiration.

Have a good one girls

unknown, lol, we did guess you didn't mean the cubs!

ChutneyMary (who were you? Puddle?) well done on PE abstinence, ikwym on the quality of the wine, I do mostly buy decent stuff so maybe I just need to drink water alongside it.

L&S, 3 weeks, not long then, how lovely, your day sounds nice. My sister is 7cm dilated as I type this (my mum just called to tell me, she couldn't stand the suspense and rang the hospital to find out), eek! Have you got a sweepstake going on your baby's arrival date? If this baby comes before midnight my sister wins the kitty, if it's after midnight, my ds wins as he picked the 25th!

Also bewildered at the get a job comment, how odd!

eve34, welcome, we know what you mean about bellies!

Count me in again, think I went AWOL in about November!
Need a kick to get me back on the straight and narrow and off the vast quantities of sugar-laden goodies that keep passing my lips. Maybe I need to swap the 'no or little booze' for 'no or little sugar-laden crap' as booze isn't really an issue (too many years of being pg/bfing plus too close an encounter with alcoholism in the immediate family put paid to any desire to drink more than a very occasional glass)
DD and DH's birthdays have just finished so not much cake left and we finished off the chocolate crispie cakes earlier. Need to get back to sensible snacking and stop the mad sugar highs and lows that make me such a grumpy sod at times. A little more energy would be good too as DS(2) is getting ever faster

Off for an early night then back to bootcamp tomorrow.

Eve34 · 25/02/2008 08:10

Ok up early have eaten the last of the bad food last night and off shopping today for fruit and veg, going to walk to town, but might get the bus back, depends if I think the £1.50 is worth it....just as I begin to think positive the damn dog has gone and hurt his foot and can't walk.... hope the weather holds have decided that I really should walk to the CM when I can, thinking it is just as quick as driving with sitting in the traffic. Still need to find the sun cream. All in all a good start after being up 45 mins on day one.....

better get off mn and go and do something active/constructive if im to participate then

cerys · 25/02/2008 11:29

Welcome BoysonToast and Eve34!

batters, hope you feel better soon.

I am still puzzled at the "get a job" comment, but I do think he had been drinking. Or something! It was all a bit surreal.

I have done my hour at the school and then dashed to the shops to get healthy food. DS is due back any minute - my lovely parents took him to the park so he might be a bit tired

moonshine · 25/02/2008 12:04

Hello all - think I've been awol since December but have occasionally lurked. I would have felt a bit of a fraud coming on the thread tbh as my total concern since January has been pure and utter vanity. My huuuuge black tie do which I have been organising is happening next week and I found myself at the beginning of the year still dumpy and despondent. I didn't want to buy a nice dress in a 'big' size that I'd never want to fit into again so I did something I said I would never do again - and am on the Cambridge Diet (but only until the end of this week - hoo f*ing ray). Anyway, job done as I have lost about 2.5 dress sizes (although there will be a struggle to not regain too much weight afterwards but I'll worry about that next week) and bought a nice dress, stupidly in a very unforgiving satin fabric so I have also bought some Spanx 'power panties' (cringe at name but boy do they do the job of smoothing and sucking in).

I have also tried to fast track my way to looking younger. Most things have failed but what has been good is:

  1. Decent haircut and colour done at the hairdressers for the first time ever - the condition is far better than when I do it at home.
  1. Those L'Oreal Ed Gein masks are (temporarily) marvellous on my skin.
  1. Clarins coloured lip balm.
  1. Make-up on my eyebrows - something that I would have baulked at a year ago but age seems to have made them very sparse.

I've allowed myself to be 'made-over' at several different make-up counters and have been, on the whole, disappointed. I expected great things from Mac and Bobbi Brown but I felt it was all very carelessly done with an eye to selling the most/most expensive products they had. I was probably hoping for too much (like a total transformation into a Cate Blanchett-lookalike or summit similar).

Anyway, won't go on and on. But what's all this about Cod and quiche? Will go and do a search now.

marina · 25/02/2008 12:54

Am bootcamping (lost 2k this week ) but won't be posting much as work is now definitely baaaad. Disaster Recovery Plan here I come
am so awestruck by Cerys' running prowess!
Welcome back AWOLers and hope you feel better soon Batters

suzywong · 25/02/2008 13:17

I'll share this body exfoliator with you lot because you'll like it

(stop doing a Paul Daniels voicein your head)

Salt

mixed with

Rice Bran oil

rub it on and rinse it off under the shower

Mmmmmmm, I do feel nice now

LoveAndSqualor · 25/02/2008 14:18

dashing in as this is my last week at work and I have a page-long list of things the Must Be Done today, but ...

WWW, so exciting about your sister! Any news? A sweepstake is a brilliant idea - then I can bet on myself to be late, and if I'm late I'll be able to mitigate the fed-up-ness with the thought of winning money! Will instigate this evening (my Dad in particular is a sucker for sweepstakes)

Marina, 2k, wow! Sorry to hear work continues to be evil.

Moonshine, I find make-up counter makeovers v hit and miss. best one I ever had was from Benefit (and I use lots of their stuff now as a result); worst was from Bobbi Brown (I looked like an extra from an 80s sitcom).

Chutney, v encouraging what you say about being fit and recovery; actually, I felt far far worse after a w/e of sitting about than I do after normal levels of activity (plus my ankles were sooooo swollen by sunday night). Ooh, go on, tell me who you dh works for!

Cycled into work this morning, and have eaten toast and peanut butter, a pain au chocolate, an apple, a felafel wrap and a KitKat. On the water now!
