What to wear on a night out- no confidence or fashion sense!

cocktail bar, clubbing etc.

it’s a hen do. I am in my 40s. Tired mum type. Just want to not look it! Also really don’t think I can handle heels so what the hell do I wear on my feet? Have some flatform sandals but is that too dressed down!?

Am going to utter the dreaded word: jumpsuit?

headcheffer · 05/07/2023 15:43

My go to look for nights out lately is wide leg trousers (smart ones) and a tight 3/4 sleeve top (or body). Big chunky gold necklaces, nice handbag, and your hair/make up on and you'll look great OP. And you can even wear with trainers or flats.

As you're short (like me), something like this could work, covered arms, it won't be too short on you and would look good with flatform trainers

You sound super cool @bellac11

Maybe back in the day, Im a right old fat frump now. Am aiming to put that right in the next few years!!!

Grendell · 05/07/2023 15:46

I like the zebra dress. Maybe find a more summer version of it?

bellac11 · 05/07/2023 15:48

And in fact my suede wedge ankle straps are from Clarks!!!

So edgy!

SimonsCow · 05/07/2023 15:50

I have some playsuits including one that is quite dressy but it really needs tights and boots to look good. I’ve never found a jumpsuit that suits me. I also cannot pull off wide leg trousers or jumpsuits as a 5ft1 pear shape.

Fat does not equal uncool!

The think is, the only way I could make it summary is to find a short sleeved version.. which I don’t think suits the look? (And as far as I know does not exist)

I have jeans.. but mostly skinny (other than some very non-dressy baggy mom jeans). Isn’t skinny out now?!

Well unfortunately I am guilty of that well known situation 'letting yourself go', but underneath the stretchy comfort clothes Im still 21 and living in the 80s!!!

Ive lost 6 stone and have a fair way to go and my whole wardrobe is having a revamp, as am I, keeping on top of my hair now and Im going to get some permanent make up etc etc

Anyway, off tangent, the point is you sound lovely and slim, take advantage of it, have a great night and go wild with the looks

Persiana · 05/07/2023 15:56

What about this animal print dress? Would look good with flatform sandals and some chunky gold jewelry

Well a friend of mine who Im guessing is about a size 8-10 (and a tired mum too) just bought herself those wet look leggings/leather look leggings, she looks amazing in them

I dont really buy the 'in or out' mentality. Its about what looks good for the occasion.

MotherofGorgons · 05/07/2023 15:59

DD goes clubbing but she wears very wide leg trousers/jeans and a tiny crop top or boob tube thingy

justawee · 05/07/2023 16:14

Can't link ad on the H & M app but they have some animal print dresses that might suit
Wear with flat black/ red / metallic gladiator sandals
Something like the photo?

I think this is a good look, I think other dresses area bit 'out for sunday lunch' rather than a clubby look

SurpriseSparDay · 05/07/2023 11:58

This is nothing like a typical ‘clubbing’ dress - but you’re a grown up, and it’s exceptionally grand.

Good god.

That is all.

SimonsCow · 05/07/2023 16:33

omg thank you all for hunting for me!! I love that everyone has jumped on the zebra bandwagon.

The river island midi shirt dress has been mentioned twice.. I do have a selection of shirt dresses but I’d wear them for work. I think I’d prefer something a bit more tight/fitted.

SimonsCow · 05/07/2023 16:34

I would look sooo hippy in this. Clingy skirts just don’t suit me

SimonsCow · 05/07/2023 16:35

This is nice. I have a similar French connection dress in a different animal print. Not sure if I’d like that much leg on show though..

That’s ok, surely, @PoliticallyIncorrectHitchling ? No one’s proposing to come and force you into the dress.

Isn’t most of the point of S&B to let people know what’s available, so they can make an informed choice from a wider range of options than they might previously have had?

Where on earth would anyone go wearing that? Its a tent. Not suitable for a hen do
