@dudsville You can never have too many pairs of toast socks 😉

ilovecherries · 04/07/2023 20:17

I was back at my terrifying Ukrainian dressmaker today to collect my alterations. I’m so pleased. She took both the Oxford dropped waist shirt dress and a sleeveless batik dress from about 2019 down from 14s to about a 10, but with a full bust adjustment. She charged £35 for each as she’d basically completely deconstructed the dresses, removed the bodices, moved pockets etc. she even re-did the French seams. I’m delighted with them.

I also had her alter a few cheap Amazon tops that have languished in my wardrobe for ages and now they are properly fitted to me they look amazing. I was trying to communicate to her how happy I was and she said something like ‘good people honour even cheap clothes, and don’t throw someone’s work in the bin. You can make even these cheap things beautiful by tailoring and now they look expensive and will last you a long time.’ I felt quite emotional actually, because it sort of is about thinking about the fact that someone, somewhere, made this.

Anyway, everything looks so great, whether Toast or Amazon, and I’m really chuffed. Def money well spent.

Hi @veryfluffyfluff One reason is that Toast don’t sell their sale items in their shops, another is the inconsistencies in sizing!

Ahh I see. So the sale is only online. Makes sense then there's such high returns especially if the sizes are weird. I might try them if something catches my eye but I'll be careful with the sizing.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 04/07/2023 20:21

That’s great @ilovecherries thank goodness you didn’t get told off again.

Dee1224 · 04/07/2023 20:34

Glad it went well @ilovecherries . It sounds like she realises she was a ‘bit off’ last time and was making an effort to compliment you x

dudsville · 04/07/2023 20:57

That's lovely cherries, she's clearly an artist and good at her job.

Dee1224 · 04/07/2023 22:52

Hurray, Toast have refunded me for my biggest order! I was worried as we used the label to go system. Won’t be doing it again with a big order.

I wonder if it came through so late tonight as I had chased them up. Still got another big one to be refunded, but that is balanced out by the order I did this pm.

I don’t think my bank balance can take much more sale…

Architektin · 04/07/2023 14:16

@Noodle421 I wish I'd bought that! The Breen is a lovely colour. I'm considering the Shell colour.. is the fabric quite light or a bit sturdier?

Hi - the fabric is fairly sturdy, not as heavy as denim but I’d be comfortable wearing this in the winter months with jumper boots and tights.

Architektin · 05/07/2023 06:25

Thank you @Noodle421 I think I bagged the last one in that colour at 5.30am this morning.. off to Heathrow up early!
Not sure if I'm correct but seemed to be a few more items added overnight.. defo some 'heathery sweaters' unless I missed this yesterday.

veryfluffyfluff · 05/07/2023 06:39

@Dee1224 Are they a bit rubbish with their returns then?

Dee1224 · 05/07/2023 07:12

@veryfluffyfluff Toast are usually quite quick with returns but can be slower in sale due to sheer volume. Last week they only refunded me for one small item in a parcel and I had to contact them and show my proof of postage, (which showed the weight). I then got the rest of my money back straightaway.

Yesterday I was freaking out as I had used Labels to Go for a huge order. I think I will stick to ordering one thing at a time in future- better for my bank balance!

Laska2Meryls · 05/07/2023 07:34

More sales restock ! The broad check dress in M is there ..
I have ordered the brushed back jersey trousers in S ( and another M again which were big but I was keeping.) just so I have more sale period return time. and sending back the ones I have in M which id need to return before the S arrived ifyswim.
Also the Pear alpaca tank which I dithered about and lost ..

AFingerofFudge · 05/07/2023 07:45

Yes quite a lot added back into the sale and once again my credit card took a hit- I ordered the black crinkle dress, I have others in a similar style but missed out on this when the sale started.

I have a parcel from a week ago that still hasn't been delivered by Evri. I had paid for express postage and so no idea whether it'll turn up or not. Have contacted Toast who said they would email them.

AmethystMoonShine · 05/07/2023 08:00

I saw the over night restock too and have nabbed another couple of pairs of socks, the palm print trousers (be a I kept the gown in the end) and a navy sweater which I dithered over at the start.

lordloveadog · 05/07/2023 09:00

For anyone with wide shoulders and significant bust, I think the Gathered Cotton Slub Half Sleeve Tee is very flattering. Can't understand why it hasn't sold better. Possibly suits people who wouldn't try it - could easily assume that the arms would have the Henry VIII effect, but they don't. I have in both colours now. The 18 is just right on me but not oversized. So if you have narrow shoulders and small bust, you'd need to size down.

Nanasueathome · 05/07/2023 09:36

I’ve surrendered
The drift check cotton crinkled dress is on its way to me
i am so weak

neveradullmoment99 · 05/07/2023 09:44

@Dee1224 what size did you buy the sail stripe dress in?
Good news about your parcel refund!

Dee1224 · 05/07/2023 09:51

@neveradullmoment99 I bought M and it fitted well. I am a high street 12.

Regretting returning it now - would have liked it, despite faulty bits on front at 15% off. Unlike Landscape- sail’s faults were within tolerance with a discount!

neveradullmoment99 · 05/07/2023 09:52

Thanks :) Was it generous across the bust?

neveradullmoment99 · 05/07/2023 09:52

Its still on the website :)

neveradullmoment99 · 05/07/2023 09:54

I have previous seasons version and everyone complained about it tight on the bust. I had sized up at the time to a large. I think this one is more generous than the one I ordered. I actually asked for bust measurements but am inbetween the medium and the large. I would rather not have loads of material in the skirt but am worried the bust is far too tight.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 05/07/2023 09:57

I’ve been busy sorting returns this morning, I’ve decided to return the grass socks as they are just too thin - unfortunately I’ve run out of toast bags and don’t want to risk putting them in with anything else in case they get missed on the refund.
Has anyone returned anything in a plain envelope and got their refund ok? Just wondering about the best way to send them.

happysoju · 05/07/2023 10:01

I thought the new collection looked strangely odd together, and when they explained the circus theme it all made sense... 🤡. Most of the cutting seemed rather uninspired, lots of straight, column like garments. I do like the look of the kick flares and the asymmetrical poplin dress however.

Anyway the last of my parcel arrived and most were a hit!

Flat front cords in blonde - Tried this again in the blonde instead, and in a size 8 (I'm usually a 12 lol) and they fit just right. Possibly a tad more snug than the others but still comfortable.

Barrel cords in conker - Great versatile pair of trousers. So lovely and warm.

Kick flare cotton wool trousers in oil - These were such a pleasant surprise! Someone described them as resembling polyester which put me off at first, but after seeing them further discounted I decided to pull the trigger and so glad I did. They're lightly textured with a great drape and weight. A really beautiful pair of trousers to dress up or down. (Also definitely forest green, not 'oil')

Lofty Jacquard Yoke Sweater - I knew this would be a gamble as I ordered an L for an oversized fit. I didn't realise it was longlined... the hem falls pass my bum! Contemplating whether its worth returning for $45 😕

It's funny that all three trousers, despite being labelled different fits all just look like wide leg trousers on me. The tailoring is so subtle I could hardly tell!

happysoju · 05/07/2023 10:02

The one upside to buying Toast from the other side of the globe is that I can wear these winter items straight away!
