I love vinted

I have a laura ashley jacket I absolutely love. Burgundy tweed, fitted, slightly puffy sleeves. I got it maybe 15 years ago and I have worn and worn and worn it.

It's lost the odd button, the velvet collar has worn bare in places, the elbows are knackered. And, as is the way of these things, I am no longer the size 10 I was when I bought it.

I loved that jacket.

I've just been on vinted and found that jacket - my jacket! - in a 12 and a 14. In good/excellent condition. Bought them both, less than £30 delivered. Will keep the one that fits best and charity shop the other. Plus a grey one very similar.

I could not be happier.

There is no point to this post, but wanted to share with people who will get it.

I had 2 events recently that I needed a dress for, found a Scarlet and Jo one on Vinted for £12.50

Very good condition

I have never owned anything so flattering! Fits me like it was made for me and is just perfect. Lots of compliments at both events. I’ve been endlessly searching for similar ones from the same brand on there since, but the others are all far more expensive - I think lady who sold mine possibly underpriced it!

To be fair, I’ve had some stuff come that I wouldn’t have given away, let alone sold - so it’s not all been good news. I’m learning to be more careful and selective now!

OiCatThatsMySeat · 02/07/2023 15:05

I've had mixed experiences with vinted but the wins have made up for the fails, plus I've sold quite a lot of stuff so I view it as a clothes swap in a sense.

Re browsing: once you've put in some searches of particular items ands brands that you like, it will suggest things for you. Probably more difficult if you don't yet have a search history.

Motorina · 02/07/2023 15:06

To find out postage click the 'buy now' button. Unlike amazon, you're not committed by doing that, and it'll take you to a page with postage options.

Vinted's 'buyer protection fee' is a percentage. I have literally no idea what protection it offers, given you have to pay to return items. I'm assuming it's basically their profit.

I adore vinted. Agree with PP's re definition of 'very good' condition can be very loose, as well as 'worn once.

I'm convinced some sellers have a label machine to re attach sales tags in order to sell dresses etc as newer than they are, as I've received things quite worn but with brand new tags attached. I think as long as you balance this with the price you pay it's fine, and study photos very closely!

Am looking to dip my toe in to selling on there as I've a few things too good to put in the charity bag and not suitable for anyone I know irl.

mrsmacmc · 02/07/2023 15:15

Agree about 'very good' classification, I tend to gravitate towards NWT / NWOT and if a very good item piques my interest I forensically examine the pics and request more if needed e.g underarms on tops and crotch area if trousers.

itsmylife7 · 02/07/2023 16:03

@Motorina @mrsmacmc thanks will have a think about what I want to buy.

rockpoolingtogether · 02/07/2023 16:06

Is vintner basically an eBay alternative?

Florencearbuthnot2 · 02/07/2023 16:42

Oh yes.I bloody love Vinted.I was dubious at first about using it being a long term eBay fan. A colleague at work was wearing some lovely clothes and they are from a very expensive shop called Oska.No way could I afford those prices, anyway I had a look on Vinted and am obsessed.Haven't (touch wood) had a bad buy yet.Just bought a Cabbages and Roses Jacket Arggh...

bingohandjob · 02/07/2023 16:58

Huge Vinted fan here, also. Bought some absolute bargains on their for home and wardrobe - I like that it is instant to buy/quick to make an offer. Haven't tried selling on there yet but will over the summer. Picked up two beautiful Anthropologie vases for a tenner, a great quality huge sofa throw for a fiver.

BestIsWest · 02/07/2023 17:04

I had a grey pleat back merino jumper from Monsoon that I adored and I’ve worn to death. Perfect shape, perfect colour. I stalked ebay for years hoping another would come up. Thanks to Vinted I now have another 4.

At the time I bought it in grey and blue and DH shrank the blue one. I’m still on the hunt for the blue one.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 02/07/2023 17:21

Interesting thread. I went a bit buying pyjama's in the pandemic (don't ask 😂) and I'm thinking of selling some there. Some are Chelsea peers. Is it worth it? Brand new some with tags on

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 02/07/2023 17:21

Bit mad that should say

Is vintner basically an eBay alternative?

It's EBay with an overhaul, and updated, in my opinion.

I don't think it's perfect (I've received an odd item not as described) but I prefer it.

rockpoolingtogether · 02/07/2023 19:05

@escript so no bidding?

Smittenkitchen · 02/07/2023 19:39

Yes, no bidding. Just either buy it now or make an offer.

Smileyoriley · 02/07/2023 20:15

I love Vinted. I 50/50 buy and sell and I'm probably breaking even, so have a really good wardrobe without hanging on to things I don't wear or are too big ( I've recently lost weight)
Ive luckily not had any real horrors but anything I'm not so keen on or doesn't live up to expectations goes straight back on Vinted!

escript · 02/07/2023 20:35

That's right. No bidding

Florissante · 02/07/2023 20:40

I'm a Vinted fan, too.

FindingTheFox · 02/07/2023 20:46

I love it too. We were out this afternoon and I was thinking how cute DD (7) looked and realised it was all Vinted (Joules dress, custom Converse and denim jacket). The Fat Face linen dress I'm wearing was Vinted too. I reckon about 50% of our family's clothes are from there.

ferretface · 02/07/2023 21:11

I love vinted too, both buying and selling! Have bought some lovely things on there, barely worn kilim boots from a brand I like for £15 😀

mumofthemonsters808 · 02/07/2023 21:11

I adore Vinted too.I rarely buy anything elsewhere.

Houseplantmad · 02/07/2023 23:19

DH is now a convert. I bought a couple of things, washed and ironed them then presented them as new to him and he loved them. Then I told him they were from Vinted. He couldn’t believe the quality or value!

LunaTheCat · 02/07/2023 23:47

Have just looked… it’s lucky I live in the Southern Hemisphere otherwise I will have found another major addiction!😉

Motorina · 06/07/2023 18:31

It came! It fits like it was made for me! I love it! I am so happy!

@Motorina , re-list the surplus jacket @Motorina , so that we can try for it.
