Possibly a cousin to the Comte de Chartreuse? Or the Viscount of Violet?

Queen Beatrix’s younger sister Irene married a Prince of Bourbon-Parma, somewhat scandalously - I think she was forbidden to marry him by the Dutch government and they eloped? Something like that, anyway. So the groom may also have a Dutch connection.

Maireas · 10/07/2023 19:12

That's interesting. I could see how it could be controversial, marrying a Carlist claimant to the then vacant Spanish throne. Could have been very problematic and awkward for the Dutch government. Not to mention the RC issue.

Now that's a great title ♦

I was wondering why the French bride had an apparently Irish surname.

It's a good story as it turns out.

"The MacMahon family is of Irish origin. They were Lords of Corcu Baiscind[3] in Ireland and descended from Mahon, the son of Muirchertach Ua Briain, High King of Ireland.[4][5] After losing much of their land in the Cromwellian confiscations of 1652, a branch moved to Limerick for a time. They supported the deposed King James II in the Glorious Revolution of 1688 and settled in France during the subsequent reign of King William III.[6] They applied for French citizenship in 1749; after the definitive installation of the family in France, their nobility was recognised by the patent letter of King Louis XV of France."

Interesting. Irish - French now Spanish.

A bit similar to the Spanish Fitz-James Stuarts as in Dukes of Alba.

Marie Teresa in Carolina Herrera - needs a bra intervention

It’s a lovely dress and she looks fab but I agree about the boobage.

KillingMeDeftly · 11/07/2023 09:20

It's quite similar to the dress Leonor of Spain was wearing last week isn't it?

MotherofPearl · 11/07/2023 09:20

I dislike the fussy sleeves on GDMT's dress.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 11/07/2023 09:47

The woman in the red and white dress on the left in the photo of the Bourbon Parma/Mac Mahon kissing is very chic. Indeed most of the wedding guests were well-dressed, which isn't always the case with rich people's weddings - sometimes they try too hard and end up wearing something so achingly fashionable, they look a bit daft.

I dislike the fussy sleeves on GDMT's dress.

I dislike the fussiness of the whole dress.

MsMarch · 11/07/2023 11:58

Marie Teresa's bra intervention is probably to do with the dress. I was wearing a dress a bit like this the other day and saw a picture... similar bra crisis like with MT above. Is it the style? Needless to say, I'm going to have to redo the entire bra situation before wearing that dress again!!!!

That shape of dress is very 1950s, so probably a pointy torpedo-tit bra is called for.

Beautiful brooch up for auction, if anyone fancies bidding. It's a beautiful jewel, but with a sad story, belonging to Princess Charlotte of Wales, bequeathed to a lady in waiting after Charlotte's early death at the age of 21. Lovely images of her wedding dress, too.
She should have been Queen. What might have been.

Princess Charlotte's Emerald Brooch Hits the Auction Block

Tomorrow, an auction house in England will offer a regency-era brooch linked to one of the most popular (and most tragic) princesses of that age: Princess Charlotte of Wales. The brooch, which reportedly dates to

Yes, she looks a bit too “relaxed” in the chest area, maybe more structure was called for. Nice colour though and the fabric looks robust, I wonder if it rustles?

Ohpleeeease · 11/07/2023 16:33

Beautiful brooch, but what a sad story to go with it.

Maireas · 11/07/2023 16:47

Yes, imagine if Charlotte inherited the throne, then her son. No Queen Victoria with the subsequent dynasty.

Considering Charlotte's widower then became King of Belgium and subsequently produced Leopold II, we may have had a lucky escape!

Maireas · 11/07/2023 17:32

Indeed!

OP posts:
Serenster · 11/07/2023 18:54

We could very well have had Prince Albert in the UK though, even if Victoria never existed, as she wouldn’t have had Charlotte survived.

Leopold’s brother was Albert’s father, and one of his sisters married the Duke of Kent and duly produced Victoria. So given he was very keen on the advancement of his nephew, if he and Charlotte had had a daughter, I think it very likely he would have arranged for her to marry Albert!
