You used to be able to tell from the stock code on the label - that’s how I identified just quote how old DJ’s boxers were 😮

Yes some of the older care labels have a year on them after the garment colour.

There’s an Insta account called St Michael is Life and I think there is some guidance there for St Michael stuff on how to read the label.

Pretty sure there will be.
1 there will be a number in code that probably indicates campaign period and year but it will Probably only be known to shop staff. When I worked in a high street clothing store I knew the code for our shop (and had to refuse a lady a refund on a 5 year old cardi she claimed shrank in the wash)
2 the barcode will include the info when it's scanned on the till.

They used to have 2 last digits of the year on the label e.g 06 which means 2006 and it was obvious that it’s a year, they don’t do it any more . I don’t remember when they’ve stopped but found a label in DH’s shirt, I think it’s the date. It’s just my personal observation, never worked for them.

This was bought last week...

I rediscovered a pair of M&S shorts recently and wore them in May on holiday. If I remember correctly I bought them in 1991 for a holiday.
The label clearly states Size 12: Waist 26 inches, Hips 37 inches. They are slightly too big now.

I'm the same. It's just a number. I'm just thrilled that 80s90s St Michael trousers in a 16 fit me excellently well to care about the label.

I've got a skirt I still wear with '96 on the label.

I’ve just looked at a label of a dress that I bought from a charity shop. The dress has a belt ( missing) and shoulder pads (also missing) listed on the label and it dates to 1995! My dress is 28 years old!

Why is this surprising? You bought it from a charity shop.

Yes one particular associate gifts it regularly and the labels look different. You can tell they're not current.
