Pretty tops with kimono type sleeves?

bellac11 · 26/06/2023 17:35

I have a really lovely top which is cream with some floral design on it with kimono type sleeves which have peach banding on, I dont know where I got it but as Im losing weight its not going to fit me soon. Im still wearing it but its starting to look odd.

I really like the style, just below hip length, with the sleeves coming down mid forearm, my arms look terrible due to a lot of weight loss so I cant wear short sleeves and preferably not tight sleeves.

I dont know the first place to look having not really shopped for normal sized clothes for many years.

When I search for kimono sleeve tops it brings up tops that you do up with a tie, I dont want that, I dont want a shirt/jacket type top.

Can you show a pic of the top?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/06/2023 17:59

Are you any good at sewing? You could potentially slice down the front of your existing top and hem the 2 resulting seams, so you could wear your top open over a vest. Hemming it would cut the size down a bit and worn open it will matter less if it's a bit over-sized.

ASOS is great for really specific searches like this.

tigger1001 · 26/06/2023 18:01

Batwing style tops maybe?

bellac11 · 26/06/2023 18:03

I will try to take a pic and upload it here, but not technically very good

I have wondered about taking it to a seamstress once I get to my goal weight to see if it could be amended. Theres no way I could do it myself and I dont want something open, my stomach will be horrendous so I need tops that come down just below crotch level, which this does, I would never wear a vest top with an open shirt style over the top.

search for Angel sleeve tops - the sleeves are quite roomy and about elbow length

Not at all helpful but Lidl did them 2 years ago with a black paisley/fractal type print on cream. Might find one on eBay. Was a simple construction with a band of lace up the front and around the neck, and, looking closely, one edge was lapped over the other and stitched down the front. Half-way down the back, a bit above waist level it was shirred. No fastenings, just pop it over the head.

Have you looked at one hundred stars?

veryfluffyfluff · 26/06/2023 18:29

These used to be all the rage in the 2000s at some point. Am hoping for a revival.

bellac11 · 26/06/2023 18:42

Its at least 12 years old.

I had one of these circa 2003. It was from H and M and really lovely and flattering. Lots of people commented on it even though it was a fairly bog standard h and m top. I haven’t seen anything exactly like that for a while in the. Standard shops but you might get something similar online. I have found this online, not exactly the same but lovely patterns. I think I would want to belt one of these though…

Another vote for One Hundred Stars. You can often find then secondhand on Vinted or eBay too.

bellac11 · 26/06/2023 19:13

God you lot are so clever, and the othe rposter who recommended 100 stars

How do you know all this stuff at the tips of your fingers! I cant even name any clothing brands/companies outside of the usual Next, Primark and supermarkets that well

To be honest, I am grieving some of the clothing Im having to throw away as time goes on, it doesnt fit me and thats great, but my god I had some lovely stuff, a huge amount of it from H+M, La Radoute, other places that I cant even name or remember

I hate shopping in shops, they never have sizes or the labels are difficult to see, its exhausting but I find shopping online difficult too, you never know what its going to look like.

If you mean sleeves where the front of the top and the sleeve is all one piece then the term is a dolman or grown-on sleeve, but not many clothing stores will label it that way.

I found This blue top and This peach top and This lilac top by filtering to short sleeve tops on the new look website, are any of those the shape you were looking for?

But why are you throwing it out? Chuck it on ebay as people search for La redoute for example

veryfluffyfluff · 26/06/2023 19:39

What would you suggest wearing under a 100 stars kimono? They look stunning

Geneticsbunny · 26/06/2023 19:54

They are nice with a vest top or t shirt and jeans.

So a really nice quality white T?

Geneticsbunny · 26/06/2023 20:01

That's how I wear mine.

veryfluffyfluff · 26/06/2023 20:02

Great thank you! Sorry OP I've gone off on one about what to wear under them now!

notatherapist · 26/06/2023 20:16

Just here to sing praises of 100 stars kimonos. They are so fine and light that you can wear them on the hottest days, lots of lovely designs and people always comment on them/ want to buy them. Not that cheap but great wearability.

Not quite, the sleeves Im looking for need to be longer and not flared. I need to post a picture of the one I have
