Jumpsuit at work?

Does anymore wear jumpsuits for work?

I walk around London as part of my commute and don't think I've ever seen anyone wearing a jumpsuit. I'm tempted by this one: https://www.yumi.co.uk/yumi-navy-linen-button-through-jumpsuit-p12602/s69069?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=yumi-navy-linen-button-through-jumpsuit-colour-navy-size-12-colour-navy-size-12-ym2837b027-d&utm_campaign=product%2Blisting%2Bads&cid=GBP&glCurrency=GBP&glCountry=GB&gclid=Cj0KCQjwy9-kBhCHARIsAHpBjHgvU6c5jvRc7wMy3s3vlp_s-GQtKMmo44Hcydk8oiIcB30Z_SZcF0saAkuoEALw_wcB

Would it be weird?

I work in the city but for a tech company where anything goes, but definitely more on the casual side. Thoughts?

I work in London and wear one but not with straps but short sleeves as I am client facing. I always get compliments on them. If anything goes for your firm I would get the first one.

Jumpsuitlove · 26/06/2023 09:13

Thanks all, I think I'll stay away from the strappy one.

I'll pop to Next at lunch to try the black one on, fingers crossed it looks good and I can get this one instead of the £120 Baukjen one which I really really like the look of but can't justify!

A word of warning, the next one is very long on the leg. They do do a petite version but it is too short on the body!
I'm 5 ' 4 and have bought the regular version but it needs at least 3 inches off the legs which I will have done at the tailors as I'm not risking doing it myself.

So unless you are a very tall person, beware! It is a lovely jumpsuit in all other respects though

Notcontent · 26/06/2023 09:45

The Baukjen one is the only one that is actually made of linen.

The Yumi one is 100% viscose and the Next one is 80% viscose.

Jumpsuitlove · 26/06/2023 10:07

Ah that's good to know @BluebellBlueballs I'm 5'4 too. I don't think I can be bothered to have it taken up 🤔

I think a jumpsuit is fine but I would agree that if it is sleeveless a little close-fitting T shirt under it would be best. I used to have a little play suit in soft, drapey denim blue fabric with spaghetti straps and wore it to work with a hot pink T shirt (I’m not the kind of shape to go bra less!)

Legaldrama · 26/06/2023 11:05

I wear jump suits for work a lot, you'd probably think it was a dress though if you weren't looking closely so maybe that's why you think you don't see them.

I think the first one is more suited to the beach than an office, due to the thin strap / shorter length combo. There's some lovely smart ones about though, just keep looking.

katepilar · 26/06/2023 11:10

The first one would be fine for work where I am - not UK but also would have been perfectly ok in my UK job. I guess it depends what the standards are in your office.

Motorina · 26/06/2023 14:41

Ohhhh I love that first one! I've never bought from Yumi. Are they legit?

waitingforautumn · 26/06/2023 15:16

Only you are familiar with what's acceptable work attire in your office! Where I work (in Central London) is very much smart/casual - you wouldn't look out of place in a suit nor the Yumi jumpsuit, you could also wear jeans. I wear jumpsuits to work all the time, although as a rule I generally avoid anything strappy (for my own preference/comfort). I have some square neck jumpsuit with short sleeves which are cute and comfy. Matalan and Asda George both do very good and work friendly jumpsuits (friendly for where I work anyway!)

Oblomov23 · 26/06/2023 15:18

@Whataretheodds
I disagree. I was NOT talking about my work. What I wear at my job is irrelevant here. It is my opinion and mine alone, and I stand by it, that no matter how casual and relaxed the dress code at your work is, the first strappy one is inappropriate for work. Hmm

SisterAgatha · 26/06/2023 15:22

I wear them but they are tailored legs. Agree it’s the same as wearing a dress in my mind. I love them for ease in the mornings.

I have a wide legged one which seems a bit much for day time wear and I save it for nights out. Mine are oasis and Boden. The fancier one is H&M

Viviennemary · 26/06/2023 15:49

I would have thought they were totally inappropriate. But as you say anything goes at your work so why not.

zippitydoda · 26/06/2023 16:08

@BluebellBlueballs I think back zips are tricky but can be ok. The worst for me is the side zip.

Just returned a lovely one because side zips are impossible.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 26/06/2023 16:47

I love the first one but think it's too strappy for work. The second on OP listed is perfect. I like the Next one is great and I might order that today. Camilla and Sophie Wessex have both worn jumpsuits for royal engagements recently so think they are definitely fine in general for work.

BluebellBlueballs · 26/06/2023 18:03

I went to the tailors to get the Next one taken up. 4 inches and it's not like I'm ultra short to begin with. Who are they making these for? Wish they'd do a petite regular and tall but it seems regular and tall are one and the same.
It will cost £18 for the alterations but I loved it too much to return it.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/06/2023 19:23

The first one is dungarees rather than jumpsuit .

Jumpsuits can be smart enough for workwear but I'd need to factor in 5 minutes extra for each toilet break

Appropriate at my work, I wear similar things all the time 🤷🏻‍♀️
IN YOUR OPINION it's not suitable work attire, which is fine because nobody is asking you to wear it.

muppetmayhem · 26/06/2023 20:32

I wear them all the time but for the strappy just stick a smart T-shirt under it. I got mine from George £15 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Oblomov23 · 26/06/2023 20:40

Thank you @MyrtleSmurf. I'm allowed an opinion.

Stickybackplasticbear · 26/06/2023 20:44

I do but we literally wear whatever we want as it's an arts organisation.

DollyTheFluffyOne · 26/06/2023 20:46

I loved my jumpsuits in the 1970s and 1980s. If my bum wasn't so big I would still wear them.
