Bar soap, which one?

Hi everyone,

Struggling in this heat with not feeling properly clean etc and seem to need to wash twice a day to avoid being sweaty. Whilst that's fine, I've seen lots of people recommend bar soap instead of shower gel so thought I could try that.

Any recommendations on which one is good?

My skin is dry ish but I do sweat a fair amount and would be a bit pongy without regular shower & deodorant so want something cleansing too!

Thanks!

Shield soap is my go to in the heat.

UsethisUsername · 24/06/2023 08:21

I agree that Shield is great. Imperial Leather is also good. They are both cheap and do the job.

If you want to treat yourself French soap is gorgeous such as Savon de Marseille. The rose one is just divine.

Soaps that are ‘clear/transparent’ (like, say, Pears) don’t seem to work on me when it comes to underarms so I avoid them.

UsethisUsername · 24/06/2023 08:22

Also avoid Dove, it isn’t soap and will do naff all for your underarms!

I like the Loccitane bar soaps (the bigger size, they last ages), but also the Dettol one for heavy duty use as it’s anti bacterial, very cheap too.

Wildlyboring · 24/06/2023 12:38

Nesti Dante soap is lovely as is L'occitane

pineapple360 · 24/06/2023 12:42

Simple soap is good

ChrisPriss · 24/06/2023 12:46

Body Shop bar soap is great

LampLamp · 24/06/2023 13:34

Sanex is a good basic.
You can also get some lovely soaps in TK Maxx/Homesense. As above, I tend to avoid anything clear (perhaps glycerine?) as they don’t seem to work as well.

Waitrose own brand Camomile £1.60 for 4 bars. Knocks spots off Neste Dante apart from the wrappings.

I got packs of Humble (like the toothbrushes) honeysuckle, rose and I think jasmine and a pack of Creightons coconut and mango, (two are exfoliating)for under 2 pounds in Home Bargains. I also recommend Gruum(and their shampoo bars), they often have a trial pack, just pay postage. TK Maxx is good for big bars(I get the men’s), look in the clearance bit.

TheFormidableMrsC · 24/06/2023 18:01

Go to TK Maxx if you have one near, who stock a vast array of gorgeous triple milled soaps that last for ages.

Redlarge · 24/06/2023 18:07

I like old fashioned coal ta to feel 'really' clean and i always stock up on the italian soaps from TK maxx. They last ages and make your bathroom smell lovely

CheshireCats · 24/06/2023 18:12

Another recommendation for L'Occitane! I absolutely love all of their soaps.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 24/06/2023 18:13

Neste Dante. Huge bars and smell lovely.

ilovemydog123 · 24/06/2023 18:14

Following cos I have same problem imperial leather soap it didn't work for me
Haven't tried shield will have a go

CorneliaStreet · 24/06/2023 19:26

My favourite soap is Nesti Dante as it is creamy and smells gorgeous, but the best one I’ve found for stopping smelliness is Cidal antibacterial.

Agree with this. Lovely soap!

SirChenjins · 24/06/2023 19:30

Imperial Leather or Dove - I know Dove isn’t a soap as such but I love it.

FictionalCharacter · 24/06/2023 19:31

Pure olive oil soap or goat milk soap https://thelittlegoatsoapcompany.co.uk/
It’s absolutely true that real soap is way better for preventing armpit pong than shower gel (which is actually mild detergent, not soap- chemically different). I wash and rinse twice.
Exfoliating the pits by shaving or a scrub also helps.

Cyclingmummy1 · 24/06/2023 20:04

Tesco own brand, lemon.

Teabutnotasweknowit · 24/06/2023 20:07

Olive oil soap, it's wonderful. Or Aleppo soap. Those are the only two I ever use.

Stichintime · 24/06/2023 20:11

Dettol anti bac is the only one I use. Applied straight to the skin, so no flannel or shower puff.

Flidina · 24/06/2023 20:17

Definitely Dettol Antibac Soap I use the blue sensitive one.

onwardandupwards · 24/06/2023 20:20

My dd bought me a set of soaps from wild and they are lovely and the clean soap smell hangs around in the bathroom a long time too!
