Bar soap, which one?

Hi everyone,

Struggling in this heat with not feeling properly clean etc and seem to need to wash twice a day to avoid being sweaty. Whilst that's fine, I've seen lots of people recommend bar soap instead of shower gel so thought I could try that.

Any recommendations on which one is good?

My skin is dry ish but I do sweat a fair amount and would be a bit pongy without regular shower & deodorant so want something cleansing too!

Thanks!

L'Occitane or Foamie.

Thank you everyone for the recommendations! Quite a few to try so hopefully I'll find something that's nice to use and does the job!

Love Dove

Someone on another thread recommended Dettol soap the other day for other reasons.

I bought some for my feet and underarms and absolutely love it.

Could happily use it all over. Smells so... clean 😇

TK Max is excellent for soaps I love Castlebel, Neste Dante, The Scottish Soap Co, l'occaitaine and various other old fashioned brands whose names escape me. I've a bit of an addiction to bar soaps and have a big carrier bag full stashed in the airing cupboard.

Agree - best soap!

The Waitrose soap

Another L'occitaine soap bar fan.

Tropic do a soap exfoliating bar that I also like.

Waitrose own brand Camomile £1.60 for 4 bars. Knocks spots off Neste Dante apart from the wrappings.

Yes !
I bought some recently , lovely subtle smell

Dove isn't a soap? Huh? I like it. Not expensive, nice smell. It doesn't dry out into lots of grim looking layers that collect dirt, like some soaps.

I still haven't found a shampoo bar soap for my hair that I like. But I probably ought to start my own thread for that.

YappyCamper · 25/06/2023 07:06

I have to use dettol soap when it's hot as nothing else works like it. I don't really like the smell so it's only in the summer that I use it. Also like imperial leather and the Irish spring soap they sell on Amazon, it has quite a strong scent.

My favourite scented soaps are the little round roger and gallet ones, I get them in M&S.

MyDecadent70sArmpits · 25/06/2023 07:16

Waitrose camomile smells lovely and it incredibly good value.

Very sadly I have had to admit defeat with real soap as I have dry skin and it really is bad to use on my arms and legs. There’s a reason why we tell patients to avoid soap if they have dry skin conditions.

Ive moved back to Dove (I know I know) the Shea butter variety, and so far so good. Doesn’t desiccate the skin on my legs and is working fine on my pits.

I fear my destiny is washing with emollients but currently I’ve found a half way house.

I'm not in UK so I'm not sure if you are able to get hold of Protex soap.

It's a Colgate-Palmolive product so I am assuming it's world wide.

Having two sporty teens in a hot country, what works is any anti bacterial bar soap. So here it would be Protex, Savlon, Dettol, Lifebuoy etc. Don't bother with the gels, just the bar.

The others mentioned (that I know of) are lovely and smell gorgeous. But they don't seem to work for a ingrained pit smells from the heat. My dd uses two bars, anti bac first especially for underarms, and then again with a nice smelling Lux, Nesti etc. I think it's just a personal preference as she wants to smell like the nicer soap when she gets out.

My mum always told me to take soap that isn't being used right away, out of its packaging.

I supposed the right wording would be it cures (might not be the right word though). The soap gets harder and lasts way longer when you do get to use it.

I have opened soaps in almost all cupboards too. It is something small, but that smell just makes me happy.

We buy ours online from The Highland Soap Comoany. Really like them. Discovered them after a visit when passing by a few years back.

merrymelodies · 25/06/2023 10:07

Roger & Gallet soaps. My favourite is the carnation one (œillet mignardise) but all of them are excellent.

Yellowdays · 25/06/2023 13:41

I agree Roger et Gallet.

SqueakyDinosaur · 25/06/2023 13:47

I order from Chateau du Savon online. My current favourite is Pavot (poppy) which is black and smells amazing.

I use both
Soap on armpits and feet and sweaty bits
Then bioderma shower oil all over which is amazing, you can shave with it too and it's really moisturising
