Let me proclaim my stinky armpits cure!!!

Honestly the amount of clothes I’ve ruined over the years, I could weep (yes, silk tuxedo jacket, I’m thinking of you…)

I have NEVER been able to keep my pits pong-free. I have been a proper soap user for years, I have tried so many anti perspirants, deodorants, you name it. I’ve tried natural and hardcore brands. I’ve used Dettol in the washing machine, special freshening fabric sprays, scrubbed clothes with bicarb… STILL, every summer, most of my clothes have ended up with a horrible musty pong that never quite goes away.

well, drum roll please, because today is two days in a row that I have been out and about ALL day in muggy, sweaty London… and I have, on both days, taken off my dress at the end of the day… to ZERO smell. I mean ZERO. My DH just gave my armpits s quick sniff (for research purposes) and confirmed: ZERO smell.

So this is my v simple solution (and maybe everyone else on the planet knew this before, but nobody ever told me!!)

1 DETTOL soap in the shower
2 SCRUB pits with scrubby gloves
3 Mitchum creamy-stick triple defence antiperspirant deodorant, I’ve used Powder Fresh scent

ta-da!!!

I think it needs all three steps. But I do think the scrubby gloves part is the game changer. It’s been getting better and better since I discovered this particular antiperspirant, but the exfoliation stage has taken it from almost no smell to NO SMELL.

Did everyone know this except me?!?

it’s why I’ve posted: to share my new found wisdom. I hope it helps someone else!

All you need to do is rub lemon juice into your armpits after a shower and that would do the trick also.

LordSalem · 21/06/2023 23:52

I don't suffer with smell, just excessive sweating. Tried Mitchum and it ruined the armpits inside and out of so many T-shirts that I've been unable to save with any method so far. Didn’t stop the sweating either. Driclor gave me chemical burns even after following instructions to the letter. Odaban works for a day when used every now and then. Glad you've been able to get rid of the smell OP but I'd love to see a solution for ridiculous odourless sweating. All over body!

Sunshineandrainbow · 21/06/2023 23:55

My solution is double wash. First with bar of soap and then with shower gel. I used to pong.

newtb · 21/06/2023 23:56

Botox works for excessive sweating. Only problem is that it can divert it, so that instead of armpits it comes out around the waist.

Try Perspi Guard.

For the perspiration adhesive panty liners stuck to the dress or T shirt under arm area offers some protection. Sticky side to clothing, not skin...

My solution is double wash. First with bar of soap and then with shower gel. I used to pong.

I do that too
My routine is exfoliating gloves and bar soap on armpits, neck, feet, belly button, then shower gel everywhere else
Body scrub once a week all over including armpits
Sure max cream after shower at night

ScreenPrinting · 22/06/2023 06:51

Intriguing currently do you mean literally just half a lemon and then no anti perspirant or deodorant at all? I worry I would smell!!! But I might try it!

The panty liner trick sounds clever, hope you find a solution LordSalem, my daughter is like you, tonnes of sweat but no odour! She is only 11 so I hope it doesn’t get worse.

Honestly, I am so envious of non sweaty people. It runs in my family and it’s a pain. And clearly solutions are so personal, what works for one doesn’t work for another.

Try acquiring the under arm microbiome of someone else who doesn't smell. It's to do with the balance of bacteria. If your husband wears a cloth in his arm pit then gives it to you to wear on yours, you'll catch his bacteria.

It's true, there's research.

redspottedmug · 22/06/2023 07:38

Good that you've found something that works.

There's several threads about this and it always comes down to

Proper soap
A good old fashioned scrub (I use flannels)
Mitchum!

CMOTDibbler · 22/06/2023 07:40

Mitchum Gel is better than the stick and no white marks either. Occasionally I am tempted to try some other deodorant and it is never as good. Real soap is crucial too (not Dove or cleansing bars, real cold process soap)

Toptotoe · 22/06/2023 07:44

I can’t drink coffee as it gives me stinky pits ( smelt like cat pee 😖). It took me years to realise this was the cause - something about my body not being able to break down some enzyme . I can have the odd cup without this happening. I now just use Nuud - it’s so good

Simianwalk · 22/06/2023 07:48

I follow your steps, but occasionally they fail. They I run to a bathroom have as much a clean as I can and rub hand sanitizer into my pits. A miracle emergency cure.

Wiennetta · 22/06/2023 08:53

The best way to stop the smell is to use a Benzoyl Peroxide based wash - like Panolxyl. Leave it on armpits (and anywhere else) for a couple of minutes in the shower twice a week and it reduces the bacteria which cause the smell.
I also use Perpirex in the summer (found it more gentle than Driclor).
No sweat/no smell!

Somanycats · 22/06/2023 08:56

Or menopause. No smell or underarm hair since then for me.

movein · 22/06/2023 11:20

Totally agree, I use proper soap for a scrub, I like pears and then mitchum stick. only thing

Blarn · 22/06/2023 11:31

I've never even considered coffee. I love coffee (and the caffeine) so am now wondering if it is worth a try...

I do the double wash too but am going to give dettol soap a go. I'm not overly sweaty, just smelly! The days before my period are a battle and I once used a pill which made me honk, I left work early a couple of times 'ill' just because the smell was too embarrassing. So hormones play a big part for me.

I'l like to add natural fibres to the list of things that help.

DustyLee123 · 22/06/2023 11:33

I’ve been doing that and it still doesn’t work. Thank you menopause !

olympicsrock · 22/06/2023 11:34

Yes you need to exfoliate to remove all the dead skin cells and old antiperspirant.

DustyLee123 · 22/06/2023 11:34

Can we please have a list of real soap ?
I’ve tried one of those French soaps but found it made me itchy.

DustyLee123 · 22/06/2023 11:35

You can buy special arm pit pads on Amazon. Anyone tried them ? Don’t want one dropping out at work !

DustyLee123 · 22/06/2023 11:36

I’ve been using the mens (blue) Mitchum gel. It’s slightly better.

EvenmoreDisorganised · 22/06/2023 11:38

Yes, soap and scrub with a flannel works for me. Hand sanitiser in an emergency.

TheMurderousGoose · 22/06/2023 11:40

I thought you were going to say glycolic acid.

AdoraBell · 22/06/2023 11:44

I’ve given up with antiperspirants due to the aluminium content. I now only use it for the gym
when I have a full in session with the PT, once per week, or special occasions like DD’s upcoming graduation.

The lemon juice tip sounds good 👍
