Let me proclaim my stinky armpits cure!!!

Honestly the amount of clothes I’ve ruined over the years, I could weep (yes, silk tuxedo jacket, I’m thinking of you…)

I have NEVER been able to keep my pits pong-free. I have been a proper soap user for years, I have tried so many anti perspirants, deodorants, you name it. I’ve tried natural and hardcore brands. I’ve used Dettol in the washing machine, special freshening fabric sprays, scrubbed clothes with bicarb… STILL, every summer, most of my clothes have ended up with a horrible musty pong that never quite goes away.

well, drum roll please, because today is two days in a row that I have been out and about ALL day in muggy, sweaty London… and I have, on both days, taken off my dress at the end of the day… to ZERO smell. I mean ZERO. My DH just gave my armpits s quick sniff (for research purposes) and confirmed: ZERO smell.

So this is my v simple solution (and maybe everyone else on the planet knew this before, but nobody ever told me!!)

1 DETTOL soap in the shower
2 SCRUB pits with scrubby gloves
3 Mitchum creamy-stick triple defence antiperspirant deodorant, I’ve used Powder Fresh scent

ta-da!!!

I think it needs all three steps. But I do think the scrubby gloves part is the game changer. It’s been getting better and better since I discovered this particular antiperspirant, but the exfoliation stage has taken it from almost no smell to NO SMELL.

Did everyone know this except me?!?

it’s why I’ve posted: to share my new found wisdom. I hope it helps someone else!

All you need to do is rub lemon juice into your armpits after a shower and that would do the trick also.

Just imagining the sensation of lemon juice on any minor cuts from shaving

😱 🪒 🙋🏻‍♀️

PitRok crystal in the black container . On hair free armpits .

Some great tips on here. I do exfoliate my armpits with St Ives Apricot scrub.

i sweat excessively on my forehead though, how can I stop that? It is really embarrassing.

Perspi Guard.

tobee · 23/06/2023 02:20

Isn't lemon juice also frightfully sticky?

Do we stop smelling of sweatiness after menopause because of hormones and now we (supposedly) no longer need to attract a mate?

milkydrink · 23/06/2023 02:50

Soap works. Mitchum is no longer very effective (see recent threads).

acheyfeet · 23/06/2023 06:10

@DustyLee123 On freshly washed armpits, yes pixi would work, rub it on your dry clean armpit with a cotton pad and don't put deodorant afterwards. I repeat this 2 or 3 times per week and use a glycolic acid toner from superdrug own brand.

@Kentkittypie and @Imamumgetmeoutofhere the curry smell could be from eating onions, spring onions, garlic, leeks, spices.

LuckOfTheDrawer · 23/06/2023 06:28

I think you need to target both your underarms and your clothes:

Underarms
Scrub mitt with shower gel (thorough)
PitRok crystal deodorant (this isn't an antiperspirant though)

Clothes
Spray underarms of clothes with white spirit vinegar before washing
Also use white spirit vinegar instead of fabric softener (I don't bother with this when the clothes will be tumble dried, as these come out soft anyway)

Has anyone tried Botox for it? And what about if your main sweat area is the groin? 😳

I have had Botox for underarm sweating, Works at reducing the wetness more than the smell but def reduced my sweating permanently after 3 rounds.

EarthSight · 22/06/2023 22:33

Omg OP - that sounds extreme.

@DustyLee123 It's a brave thing to try, but if you get the change, try not wearing any antiperspirant at all for about 4 -5 days and just make-do with lots of washing. That will be about enough time for any residue from sticky antiperspirants to come off. Then, try using an alum stone and get back to me. It's not going to stop sweating really but it will stop smell.

About 20 years ago I was pregnant so decided to use one of the rocks that you wet. I didn’t smell, but my god my pits were wet. I had to go back to deodorant when I went back to work.

DustyLee123 · 24/06/2023 07:21

I put the PIXI toner on after my bath last night, and they are smell free so far ! I’m going to try it today too.

Wudgy · 24/06/2023 07:34

@Imamumgetmeoutofhere the curry smell is a reaction of your bacteria to a chemical in whatever cream/ deodorant/ shower gel you’re using, my mum used to swear by a particular type of deodorant but it made me stink of curry!!!
however if u generally eat a lot of curry spices that will be sweated out too.

op the Mitchum is the game changer, have used for years- used alongside soap in shower,I started with the cream stick buit found that the roll on is better now and no marks on clothes! I stuck up on offer- this week the big one is £2 in Sainsburys with a nector card!

im interested in feet suggestions as this summer I’m definitely getting a pong and on warm days my feet sweat. This week in work I was wearing sandals and could smell my feet which was embarrassing!!

Kissedbyfire1 · 24/06/2023 07:34

Pay close attention to washing- really do exfoliate not just the actual armpits but the area all around the delts and upper biceps, front and back. It’s amazing how widespread the sweat glands are. If you don’t get those areas properly clean, you won’t have much success with the smell.
I use an exfoliating sponge, fragrance free soap, Vichy deodorant. Apply deodorant in all the above mentioned areas, not just the pits.

DustyLee123 · 24/06/2023 08:36

I find the roll on Mitchum too strong. It actually stuck my top to my armpit.

DustyLee123 · 24/06/2023 08:37

Yes, I’ve got smelly feet too, despite washing them twice a day. Always wear socks with shoes.
What can I do ?

pippinsleftleg · 24/06/2023 10:09

I did the exfoliating thing yesterday and definitely felt fresher all day.

I have just taken delivery of dettol soap from Amazon (two bars for £1!) which I’ve used today. Will add the salt deodorant when it arrives.

Hibiscrub. Wash feet every day with a bit of hibiscrub on a wet sponge. Soak once a week with about 10ml of hibiscrub in the water. Soaking also really helps if you have yellow, fungal nails. Recommended by our vet for a cat with fungal feet. Also advised it would work on human feet (when asked 😀). Far easier to dunk my feet in a bowl than an angry cats.

On Amazon for £12 which seems expensive but you don't need much and it lasts for ages. You may find you don't need to use it as often.

borntobequiet · 24/06/2023 11:27

Pears “soap” isn’t soap and hasn’t been for ages. It’s a detergent bar.

DustyLee123 · 24/06/2023 11:50

I’ve got Imperial Leather now .

GayPareeee · 24/06/2023 16:30

I’ve just bought dettol, glycolic acid and pitrock from Amazon on the strength of this thread. Am peri and even though pits are dry were smelling even using max Mitchum cream with brand new bra and vests (think underwear definitely clings onto smells.

Think I’m going to try scrubbing well and allowing body to detox, have skin cancer so have been getting twitchy about the chemicals in the super strong deodorants and if I’m still smelling using then it’s time to try something else

Redlarge · 24/06/2023 16:42

Exfoliating the armpit area is a game changer. Bacteria thrives on dead skin. And yes to the double wash. Soap to get rid of sweat and bacteria and an extra one to make sure.
I know people who have used Exfoliating toner on their pits and said it works well too.

CheckEngineLight · 24/06/2023 16:54

DustyLee123 · 22/06/2023 11:35

You can buy special arm pit pads on Amazon. Anyone tried them ? Don’t want one dropping out at work !

I used to buy ‘dress shields’ on line. They wouldn’t stick in my work uniform at the time so I had to put a t shirt on underneath and they would stick to that. I’d take spare ones in my bag and swap them halfway through my shift. They never fell out.

I’m surprised to read pp post menopause don’t sweat, I’m 5 years post surgical menopause and still sweat a lot! Pits, forehead, back. No one else is a clammy sweaty mess like me.

woodhill · 24/06/2023 16:58

I'm very sweaty post menopause

The Mitchum roll on seems very good

It also, depends what I'm doing. A lot of the sweating happens at work when I'm in the car or feeling stressed etc

SquirrelSoShiny · 24/06/2023 17:03

Brilliant thread!

RubberRuck · 24/06/2023 17:06

I sweat loads under my arms and it took me years to find what works.
For me, it's Mitchum roll on ... but then I dry it with my hairdryer to save my clothes. Changed my life.
