Let me proclaim my stinky armpits cure!!!

Honestly the amount of clothes I’ve ruined over the years, I could weep (yes, silk tuxedo jacket, I’m thinking of you…)

I have NEVER been able to keep my pits pong-free. I have been a proper soap user for years, I have tried so many anti perspirants, deodorants, you name it. I’ve tried natural and hardcore brands. I’ve used Dettol in the washing machine, special freshening fabric sprays, scrubbed clothes with bicarb… STILL, every summer, most of my clothes have ended up with a horrible musty pong that never quite goes away.

well, drum roll please, because today is two days in a row that I have been out and about ALL day in muggy, sweaty London… and I have, on both days, taken off my dress at the end of the day… to ZERO smell. I mean ZERO. My DH just gave my armpits s quick sniff (for research purposes) and confirmed: ZERO smell.

So this is my v simple solution (and maybe everyone else on the planet knew this before, but nobody ever told me!!)

1 DETTOL soap in the shower
2 SCRUB pits with scrubby gloves
3 Mitchum creamy-stick triple defence antiperspirant deodorant, I’ve used Powder Fresh scent

ta-da!!!

I think it needs all three steps. But I do think the scrubby gloves part is the game changer. It’s been getting better and better since I discovered this particular antiperspirant, but the exfoliation stage has taken it from almost no smell to NO SMELL.

Did everyone know this except me?!?

it’s why I’ve posted: to share my new found wisdom. I hope it helps someone else!

I don't suffer with smell, just excessive sweating. Tried Mitchum and it ruined the armpits inside and out of so many T-shirts that I've been unable to save with any method so far. Didn’t stop the sweating either. Driclor gave me chemical burns even after following instructions to the letter. Odaban works for a day when used every now and then. Glad you've been able to get rid of the smell OP but I'd love to see a solution for ridiculous odourless sweating. All over body!

Ask your GP for pro-banthine. Give it a Google, it's been a life changer for my hyperhidrosis! I'd be head sweating, dropping face, wet back, blummin eck wet forearms even.

I'm supposed to take 15mg , 2 at night and 2 in the day, but when I tried that I couldn't see for hours! I find one at night, one in the morning sees me through most of the day. It is traditionally used for urinay incontinence - it works!

I dries every though so I need chewing gum or similar for dry mouth (especially when my lips stick to my teeth 🤣🙄 ).

Good luck, I'd been suffering for over 20 years. It really does work.

NeverendingCircus · 22/06/2023 11:45

After a shower, I now spray cheap very light-scented perfume onto armpits instead of deo. I think the alcohol kills the bacteria. Occasionally in the past I've even used mouthwash. Same principle - minty fresh pits all day because the alcohol kills the bacteria that smell.

dripping face urinary 🙄

lol I was just reading your post and thinking 'eeek, that doesn't sound safe!'.

WhereTheSuburbsMeetUttoxeter · 22/06/2023 11:49

Oxybutnin also works the same but left me feeling a bit la la.

🤣 yes, but at least I wasn't sweating! Hmmm....

KirstenBlest · 22/06/2023 11:52

@DustyLee123 , 'real soap' are things like Shield or Imperial Leather not ones sold as 'cleansing bars' (e,g, Dove)

Kimten · 22/06/2023 12:24

Buy Perspirex in Boots or any other pharmacy.
It's a roll on deodorant. Put it on at night, on dry armpits.
It will stop you sweating - for months.

Softoprider · 22/06/2023 12:28

Could this work for feet? My feet smell in Summer even when I wear flip flops. It is most embarrassing. I keep them clean at all times too.

MissingMoominMamma · 22/06/2023 12:32

If I use an antiperspirant, my sweat smells horrible.

I generally keep clean and use PitRock deodorant. I sweat loads- on hot days I’m soaked, but I don’t appear to smell… unless I’ve used a normal deodorant/antiperspirant.

Yes.

Softoprider · 22/06/2023 12:36

I'll try the Perspirex

SisterAgatha · 22/06/2023 12:37

My armpits don’t smell. They did after I gave birth and I remember it because it was the most animalistic smell I’d ever had. I quite enjoyed it tbh. I just use dove deodorant. They don’t sweat much either really but my face does.

SisterAgatha · 22/06/2023 12:40

Also just read the talk of “real soap” and I’ve always used imperial leather so maybe it’s been that all along.

Good that you've found something that works.

There's several threads about this and it always comes down to

Proper soap
A good old fashioned scrub (I use flannels)
Mitchum!

I have done this for years. Fragrance free soap on a flannel with warm/hot water and roll on Mitchum, unperfumed. Let pits dry. I don't get stains on clothing.

Some of the crap in perfumed soap doesn't help with the problem, or the same kind of crap in antipersperants that smell, just makes the sweat smell worse.

I have a good supply of the soap and Mitchum to be sure I don't run out.

DustyLee123 · 22/06/2023 16:39

Perspirex made my armpits sting, I was up in the night washing it off.
The Sure one doesn’t sting me.

DustyLee123 · 22/06/2023 16:40

And for sweaty, smelly, peri menopause like me, the Asda baby range liquid talc under and between boobs helps.

poetryandwine · 22/06/2023 18:07

I think the exfoliating step might be important. I am allergic to something in most antiperspirants. The dermatologist told me to wipe down my armpits with glycolic acid toner. It works very well. Little sweat, no odour.

Amazing. Great idea

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 22/06/2023 20:08

I get sweaty and nothing has worked really so am going to try this.

Any ideas why I always smell like curry when I'm particularly sweaty? I rarely eat it, it's bizarre

I'm the same - if I use anti perspirants like Mitcham, they don't stop me sweating and I stink within hours. Using a crystal stone deodorant after washing with soap and a flannel will keep me odour free for two days. It works by dissolving a layer of salts onto your skin which stops bacteria growing, it's the bacteria reacting with sweat that causes odour.

I follow your steps, but occasionally they fail. They I run to a bathroom have as much a clean as I can and rub hand sanitizer into my pits. A miracle emergency cure.

I came here to say this. Hand sanitiser after a shower then sure cream deodorant and then sure spray.

Nojumpingorrunning · 22/06/2023 20:42

Has anyone tried Botox for it? And what about if your main sweat area is the groin? 😳
