Does biab just always look a bit lumpy or should I find somewhere new?

Had 3 different people do my nails at my local salon. I like how long biab lasts but it just always looks a bit lumpy in places.

Is that just the way it is or should I try a specialist nail place next time?

It shouldn’t look lumpy. That salon may not be doing it correctly. Most nail salons should be able to do it properly - maybe try somewhere else next time?

Allhailkingcharlie · 13/06/2023 20:02

I recently had this done for the first time. Mine wasn't bumpy.

FatLarrysBanned · 13/06/2023 20:03

Do you mean lumpy as it they've made a blob of BIAB rather than a nicely shaped apex or actually bitty lumps?

thanksroyalmaill · 13/06/2023 20:04

I have BIAB and it’s not lumpy. I think it looks like a regular polish but a bit thicker, but uniformly a thicker layer vs lumpy.

Unknownunknowns · 13/06/2023 20:06

I had it done for the first time two weeks ago and it is very smooth, not a lump or bump in sight.
I think you need to go to a different salon. 💅

Rainbowshit · 13/06/2023 20:14

Terrible picture sorry but hopefully you can see how lumpy my pinky nail is. It's the worst. Camera on my phone is fucked after DH put it through the washing machine. 🙄

Mine is smooth and even. You need a better nail technician. This is mine when it was first done.

That's VERY lumpy!

ApolloandDaphne · 13/06/2023 20:16

Sorry about my old wrinkly hands!

Doidontimmm · 13/06/2023 20:19

Those are awful, try a different salon, check photos on their Facebook/Instagram first!

Callipsi · 13/06/2023 20:26

That is appalling!

AHugeTinyMistake · 13/06/2023 20:28

Yeah that's bad.

It should look like a thick layer but an even one. Nothing blobby or distorted

ThatFraggle · 13/06/2023 20:28

What's BIAB?

PinkPrincessPhilo · 13/06/2023 20:29

I can’t believe they let you leave with those nails.

Definitely go somewhere else. Those are shocking.

pictoosh · 13/06/2023 20:32

Your nails look like they're melting. It's made me feel a bit funny to look at.
Sorry.

Rainbowshit · 13/06/2023 20:32

They looked ok in the salon. They didn't have any lights on though which I commented on.

Thanks everyone. I'll try elsewhere.

😂 no need to apologise that made me laugh.

They don't actually look sooo bad from the top but definitely will try somewhere new.

What's BIAB?

Builder in a bottle. Basically thicker gel which makes nails stronger ns lat longer.

FuckStonewall · 13/06/2023 20:50

That's really bad BIAB, definitely try somewhere else.

Sometimes mine look a tiny bit lumpy if I'm having tortie or lots of layers, but that's really bad.

Candean · 13/06/2023 21:29

As a nail tech - this is not right. When applied correctly eg it should be applied thinly in a couple layers & allowing the product to level naturally before curing, or by smoothing after curing - it should not be that thick or bumpy! It should look a bit thicker than nail polish but less bulky than say acrylic nails.

That is awful! I would be asking them for a free removal and then go somewhere else!

thanksroyalmaill · 13/06/2023 21:38

Your picture looks a bit uneven, it’s like they didn’t infill properly. Here’s mine for comparison, right after an infill. There shouldn’t be a demarcation line where the old BIAB meets the regrowth

Ok I'm going to cancel my next appointment with them and find somewhere new.

The question is will a new salon remove the biab for me? I've seen a few saying they will only remove if they applied it?

I'm not keen on going back to the original place as they filed the previous application down and then when under the lamp my nails were quite painful feeling like they were burning.

Wow that's seriously badly done by the salon! I'd definitely change. I have BIAB (and had it for 2+ months) - it looks smooth and as close to my own nail as these things can. Also I'd call a salon and ask in advance if they'd remove/correct BIAB done by another salon - the one I go to does that all the time but it is their policy (and they got a lot of new customers that way).
