Aibu to ask for help (again)?

I now have chub rub shorts. I’m looking for a dress that doesn’t look too awful. Loose, flowing, not sleeveless… I quite like the dress I’ve added a picture of but it’s sold out. I think maxi, nothing with a waist…. I have a really enormous waist.

I really, really want to buy a dress from an actual shop (or online if I can return it to an actual shop). So M&S, Next, Boden supermarkets etc.

Please help and send me actual links that you think look like good options - really massive bonus points if they are actually dresses you have and you’re also quite short like me.

Thank you all!!!

Sorry rubbish at links but i got a jersey tiered maxi dress in Asda today, it is lovely and they go up to a 24.

KateyCuckoo · 13/06/2023 18:19

Look at Yours Clothing, you can adjust the size if the model so you can see what it looks like on a fuller figure.

LWTW · 13/06/2023 18:19

I love Tescos selection (I'm a size 22). Off topic, where did you get your chub rub shorts? The ones I've bought always ride up in the leg which defeats the purpose!

Usertumster · 13/06/2023 18:33

@LWTW from snag. They got rave reviews. No dress yet so I haven’t yet tried them! I looked in Tesco today and tried one on but it was very tight on top :-(

@Applesinmyhouse thank you so much for taking the time to send links. I want to stick to actual shops (returning things is a pain otherwise) and H&M is a good shout!

Snag chub rub shorts are fab.

Ponoka7 · 13/06/2023 18:46

I like Roman, Very, Simply be. Once I hit 50 I felt that I should up my budget slightly. I'll be honest, I've had bits from Shein. I like patterned kimonos over plain dresses, or vise versa.

Popsicle42 · 13/06/2023 18:47

Check out Bloomchic. Really lovely plus size dresses and very reasonable cost

Popsicle42 · 13/06/2023 18:47

(Sorry - I just saw that you prefer actual shops)

What a great idea!

I am the same size as you and 5' 3"...

Depending on budget, i think looks great:

Also i have this dress and it sits slightly below the knee on me but with the chub rub shorts is just great when its super hot!

(If thats too short, could you wear cropped leggings?)

My Next doesnt keep larger sizes in store, so i order for delivery to store, try them on there, then return what i dont want straight away.

Happycow · 13/06/2023 19:01

I should say that i did see your comment about no waists but the first lonk does look very loose around the waist so hopefully ok?

Hullabalooza · 13/06/2023 19:02

Ps I’m 5”3 and the dress is longer than the photo looks

Usertumster · 13/06/2023 19:03

@Happycow sadly the links don’t work (perhaps I need the next app) Could you screenshot and I can look them up? 😁

@Happycow downloaded the app and it now works!

Have a look at Monsoon, I have a lovely dress from there and I'm size 22. It's about 10 years old so I can't send you a link.

Usertumster · 13/06/2023 19:06

@Happycow I actually love the second one. It’s just what I’m looking for but ideally a bit longer. But this might be a great option. Thank you!!

Is Yours definitely out for being online? There are several shops in my small town that accept returns for them because they use Evri as couriers. It's no harder than returning to a shop.

I have this one www.yoursclothing.co.uk/yours-curve-black-floral-shirred-bardot-maxi-dress-p

APurpleSquirrel · 13/06/2023 19:09

This is quite similar to the one you had the pic of - it's in the sale atm in Fat Face

I've just picked up 5 dresses for the summer from Sainsburys, after seeing someone on Instagram do a 'haul', happy with all of them and will likely buy more before the summer is over.

My go-to is usually H&M.

I'm 5'1" and size 22, and have several pairs of chub rubs to go with them...

Usertumster · 13/06/2023 19:11

@froomeonthebroom the thing is, so many dresses that I think might work look unspeakably awful when they’re on me.

I don’t know much about Yours but generally try to stay away from online shops likes shein, boohoo etc because I’m not quite sure how the very cheap clothes add up ethically.

Before I put on weight I used to shop at Boden, various shops stocked at JL, bit of M&S etc. I used to buy just a few things and wear them for years and years.

Im now in a slight summer panic and will buy cheaper clothes for now but really need to be able to try them on ideally before I buy and I don’t have much time in the week for returns etc. So there we are. I’m a pita 🤣
