Are waterfall jackets back?

A local shop was advertising their new waterfall jackets, I thought ooh they look a bit dated. DS’s GF who is very young and trendy, has just turned up in one. Then looking for a jacket online to wear next weekend and I’ve spotted a few. I’m being drawn in but I am of the age, body shape and appearance where if I get it ever so slightly wrong I look a but frumpy.

are they really back?

What is the point of you being on this board with your tired, jejune observations. It’s just rather embarrassing. Have a go on the baby names thread next. Of holidays, or books. I’m sure everyone will love to hear your marvellous observations. Maybe not. You sound as if you are 14.

Charming! Sorry you are so embarrased over something so trivial. Maybe you need to get out a bit more and be nice to people, sweetie.

A friend (mid-forties) showed up to a thing recently in a pleather waterfall jacket. I couldn’t stop looking at it. Just hideous. I was probably wearing something frump-static myself, in the name of comfort (often trumps style nowadays) but the waterfall is another level. No need for it…

I hope not, they're not really flattering with all that flappy loose fabric hanging at the front.

Actually, whether we like them or not (not, in my case), they are very flattering.

(Loved the labia comment 😂)

FeigningConcern · 28/06/2023 16:16

Not sure about waterfall jackets as ever tried one but waterfall cardigans really suit me. So they are flattering on some shapes. I am short and very hippy and they seem to elongate my body shape and make me look taller and more in proportion.

I have a pair of jeans exactly like this which cost me £35 at m and s

Thats good to know as I'm quite taken by those jeans but not the price tag!

MintyAraminta · 28/06/2023 20:11

maybe the more simple draped versions, they are very nice, i love a good cardi especially is it's sleek, elegant (or oversized cashmere in winter).

The less frilly ones might be described as having had labiaplasty.Grin

mdinbc · 28/06/2023 22:26

Personally I never liked them, and have sworn never to buy a cardigan without buttons ever again, since they don't keep you warm where you need it! Then you need to add a drapey scarf.....

But then not all styles suit all people, it would be a boring world if we all dressed the same.

piedbeauty · 28/06/2023 23:10

I've never stopped wearing waterfall cardigans- very flattering on me!

DollyTheFluffyOne · 29/06/2023 00:18

Oh no....

DiolchamFawr · 29/06/2023 08:22

Oh no not the waterfall cardigan again.
I can remember a time when Marks and spencer cardigan offerings seemed to be be waterfall or bugger all

Divebar2021 · 29/06/2023 08:31

Well they’re not very flattering on me so I’ll be giving them a miss. I can’t say I’ve really noticed them anywhere but I tend towards the Scandi brands and they don’t really fit that aesthetic. I can imagine the woman who shops at White Company wafting around her immaculate white house with a grey cashmere version looking very genteel.

There was a very cool girl aged about 20 in front of me in the coffee shop yesterday wearing one.

What is a " cool girl"?

BestIsWest · 29/06/2023 10:13

@DollyTheFluffyOne I thought long and hard about the phraseology I used there and maybe picked the wrong one - I originally typed woman and should have stuck with it. But from my perspective, she was a young woman, 19, 20, 21 and just looked really at ease with herself, jeans, t shirt, trainers with a sort of vintage feel. Bit like my DS who always wears charity shop retro stuff (and I think he always looks cool).

DollyTheFluffyOne · 29/06/2023 10:30

OK. I was just curious , not trying to trip you up so maybe it is more about the attitude than what she was wearing but some of that too.

notforonesecond · 29/06/2023 13:14

God I hope not. I tried a black one I’ve still got in my wardrobe from years ago on for a funeral the other day and it made me look huge. What’s the point in working hard for a waist if it’s going to be covered up with some great wanging flaps?! Never again.

coffeeeeeeeeepls · 29/06/2023 13:46

I am really not affected, there are no strict rules to fashion. If it differs from the classic buttoned up style, I will not be upset or call it names. You know if will you look good, depends on how you wear it, it if it feels good, wear it and if it doesn't, don't wear it.

Krissyx · 01/07/2023 18:59

Waterfall jackets just stand the test of time.
