London party outfit

I've been invited to a party in July - it's a joint 50th birthday bash for 4 of dh's old
Uni friends. They were all very Hoxton and trendy when we lived down in London, but I never was really part of that set and we've lived elsewhere for 20 odd years now so am completely out of touch.

Although we're now all middle aged with kids I know the London lot will still be super stylish. Please help, oh wise mumsnet stylistas - I don't want to look like a small town primary school teacher (even though that's what I am!)
Size 10-12, 5'5", most comfortable in a stripy t-shirt, jeans and converse.

I think you and I should swap homes for a month Usernamen. I can pretty much guarantee you pubs and bars free from out of towners while as for me, I will catch up with some of my family, go round decent shops (God I miss real shops so bad), visit the V&A, avail myself of London's fabulous culture and generally have a blast. As for the local bars, well I'll be too knackered to go out in the evening anyway. How about it?

Just came on to say I saw Buttery Culottes play at Field Day before they were cool, actually?

I am not sure of your style but I am obsessed with dungarees. Run and Fly are a great British company and do really colourful and fun clothes. Wear what you feel comfortable in. Your trim figure will make them green with envy. I find my more stylish friends like a bit of sparkle. Black simple dress and a sparkly jacket. I don't think people will care what you wear though. They will just be happy to see you

Just go with what you’d feel comfy in. I’m a Londoner I wear whatever … I’d go with a floaty maxi dress, converse and denim jacket and be done with it!
Not every Londoner is super trendy!

It would be so easy to end up
looking like a flying squirrel in that.

I was too kool for skool pre Hoxton Hoxton. I’d probably wear a t shirt, stripes or otherwise, and NB or Converse. Although I do still like a clog.

"it's about not trying to hard and being comfortable in your own skin" "but for gods sake don't wear that you will look like. An escort" seems the look is don't look like you have made an effort to be ubercool n trendy when you have clearly made as much effort as if you were going to the bridgerton debutante ball. Pretentiousness is fashion if you ask me but you have lots of good answers have a great time whatever you wear.

If you are thinking about Cos, then I hope you have one nearby as their delivery service is shocking in my area (not even in the sticks!)

4-5 working days from shipping date (not order date so legitimately they could just not send something for a week and then it be another week in the post 🙄)

And then you might have to deal with Evri…

Totally agree with all the fab jumpsuit suggestions - effortlessly stylish and on-trend without looking overdone.
