Rosacea! Anyone found an effective treatment.

I have developed rosacea on my cheek and am wondering if anyone has found an effective treatment.

Feeling pretty fed up as already battling post menopausal weight gain & hair loss so this feels like the last straw!

I am trying Dermalax as had some good reviews on Amazon, but would love to hear if anyone has had good results with anything.

My skin & me treatment plan only contains metronidazole for the first two months, then that's absent and it's just niacinamide and the azelaic acid.

Useful thread, OP. I hope people continue to update on how they're doing.

Definitely keep using the Ivermectin I know people who have been using it for years & do either weekly or monthly maintenance application now to help them nasty demodex mites at bay, it’s better to do that than risk having it all flare up again & start the battles again. Good luck 💞

I use loreal cest magic to cover any redness. Since I've stopped drinking and sugar it's helped massively. I also use la roche posay cicaplast cream daily.

Glad this has been bumped up.

I'm coming up to the third month on the metronidazole (I was given it in the third month after all). It has really improved and practically cleared up my rosacea.

But what happens next? I still get tiny flare ups now-and-then, even with daily use, so do I stop the metronidazole (it's included in the daily doser) or get some rosex to use when needed? Obviously it's not cured even then, but it will flare up again at some point.

I don't drink alcohol, haven't for years. I think stress is a trigger, but not always. I've never been able to pinpoint it.

The Soolantra has been amazing for me. Also cleansing every day or so and boots repair serum (number 7).

Do you use the soolantra every day or just when you have outbreaks?

I'm thinking of getting some if it's the one containing metronidazole as that's been rather effective for me.

I am still using the Dermatica religiously and I believe it's the ivermectin that has made the difference to my type 2 rosacea.

TheFabledSnake · 21/08/2023 12:26

I mostly get the pustules that cannot be combated by anything but Dermolex, it has cleared up horrid sore patches almost overnight. Also use Aveeno oat face wash to calm it down

aphrascott · 21/08/2023 13:20

I use the oat gel by aveeno and it doesn't irritate my skin at all! @TheFabledSnake

I get the postules too occasionally. I had small lumps most of the time which were very persistent. I didn't care about the redness until it started on the end of my nose, though thankfully this has rarely happened.

I'm currently with skin and me. I have the metronidazole, niacinamide and azelaic acid combo.

Just a quick update from me, since starting this thread I have been using the Dermalex rosacea treatment twice a day, and it has worked really well for me. I had bumps and sore itchy redness on one cheek and all cleared up very quickly. Would definitely recommend trying this as relatively cheap and easy to buy.

Where did you buy it from?

Steptherapy · 23/08/2023 15:32

@aphrascott from Amazon, but I’ve seen it in Boots too.

@aphrascott

I got some Soolantra when I developed rosacea last year. I had redness and pustules around my nose and inner cheeks. I used it every day for about 6 weeks and it was slow to work, but suddenly my skin completely cleared up.

A few times since then when I can feel a pustule or sore bump starting up I use it for a day or two and it stops them in their tracks. Although I have had completely clear skin for around 6 months now, not even a sniff of rosacea.

I'm persevering with a new skin & me prescription for now, but I had an amazing session with changing faces this week where they found the perfect cover up for me. It's free but with a waiting list, they recommend products that you then get on subscription via your GP or pay privately. For me that was a camo cream and setting powder.
For the first time in my life, I may need to wear blusher! I look normal and not caked in make up or bright red.
Happy to share more details on what they recommended if anyone is interested, its camo make up that can be worn swimming or even in the shower and is AMAZING.

It feels life changing for me. I would prefer to naturally have amazing skin but after lasers, green stuff and so many medications, I am happy.

PenguinTattoo · 24/08/2023 17:43

Sorry I meant prescription from your GP not subscription!

aphrascott · 24/08/2023 20:38

Thanks @BobsYerAunty I'm going to buy some of that. Did you buy from one of the online chemists? I thought I might try Superdrug for a prescription.

I think it will work out better to do that. I've been using the metronidazole with niacinamide and azelaic for nearly three months. I think they're going to drop the metronidazole from the next prescription, and while I probably can't use the antibiotic indefinitely, if I have a flare up I've nothing to treat it with. I'd already tried niacinamide and azelaic and they did nothing on their own.

Thanks also @Steptherapy I'll get some of that to try for daily use.

aphrascott · 04/09/2023 11:28

I just wanted to update to say that I got a prescription of rosex gel and it's been really great. My skin had been looking quite dull and tired with the Skin and Me cream (metro niacinamide and azelaic). I don't think my skin has looked so nice in years.

My last outbreak has now cleared up (happened while putting on the skin and me daily dose so not much more I could do) so I'll drop down to once a day for a while then stop until I get another outbreak.

My other problem/worry with skin and me was that they were due to drop the metronidazole but I had nothing for outbreaks

HarriR · 04/09/2023 14:52

Great news, that the gel works. Try and use a good moisturiser as well. I found the gel dried out my skin.

Thanks! Oh yes, I'm using moisturiser (then make up in the day) over the top. It being gel it dries quickly. I'm using the tiniest amount now.

Just sharing in case anyone else is trying a similar 'doser subscription' prescription to me and wasn't getting along with it. I know rosex isn't suitable for everyone either.

Daffodi1970 · 09/10/2023 10:04

Great news you’ve found something that helps. I agree with the other poster about moisturiser it’s so important to keep the skins barrier in good condition & well moisturised with rosacea it can help minimise flares & possible reactions & the gel does dry out the skin. Don’t forget sunscreen mineral based ones are better for rosacea but it can be a minefield finding one your skin likes. I use one from Green People since Clinique changed their city block to a chemical based SPF. Good luck
