Rosacea! Anyone found an effective treatment.

I have developed rosacea on my cheek and am wondering if anyone has found an effective treatment.

Feeling pretty fed up as already battling post menopausal weight gain & hair loss so this feels like the last straw!

I am trying Dermalax as had some good reviews on Amazon, but would love to hear if anyone has had good results with anything.

Another for Soolantra. I had awful Rosacea and it got rid of it in a few weeks.

I manage mine (extremely red cheeks and nose) by drinking loads of water, I use Cetaphil face wash, avene skin soothing cream and lrp spf. It all cools my skin in all ways

@stayathomer is lrp spf La Roche Posay? I have just bought some of this as I wondered if my usual supermarket sunscreen was making my rosacea worse. Got it yesterday so not tried it yet.

I had pustular roseacea all through my fifties, mainly in the summer.
It stopped when I hit 60...no idea why. I use Cerave products now and Tropic sunscreen which doesn't aggravate my skin...I also had PMLE which seems to have abated.

Another vote for soolantra here - cleared mine up beautifully.

daft question though, are you meant to use it continually? I stopped once mine was completely cleared and a couple of years later I think it’s coming back

gubbinsy · 26/05/2023 07:03

Yes soolantra. Mine has completely gone at the moment. My GpP said you're not supposed to use it long term as it can thin skin so I stopped and thought I'd just treat when it flared. That was 2 yea ago and not had a flare! I used to have pustules and spots and redness.

milkysmum · 26/05/2023 07:04

Is soolantra available from the GP? I've been using Rozex gel with little success.

Ahh thank you that’s reminded my why I stopped using it at the time!

LA ROCHE-POSAY CICAPLAST BALM helps me.

roughtyping · 26/05/2023 08:32

I tried Rozex from GP but it did nothing. I've bought a couple of things from Inkey List and a couple of other places that have helped lots - my skin is a lot smoother and softer, no bumps now. Still slight redness but definitely reduced. What works for me (at the moment at least)

AM - CeraVe blue cleanser (can't remember name), hyaluronic acid, niacinamide serum, light moisturiser
PM - make up removing balm, hyaluronic acid, azelaic acid serum, LRP cicaplast baume

I've never ever been someone to have a skincare 'regime' but this has been working for about 3 months now 🤞 and really doesn't take long at all.

Soolantra is relatively new. Many years ago you'd just be given Oxytetracycline but this cream has been a game changer for me and many others.

I've even dropped to just using it a couple of times a week now and it appears to be keeping it all under control (for now at least).

@Truestorypeeps

Thanks for that, I'll definitely go & have a look for some & give it a go. I've been putting off dealing with it because I didn't want antibiotics. But I'm really looking like Rudolph most of the time. Or a flushed alcoholic.

I've just reread the thread& see you need to get it through your GP. That could be a stalling point for me. How annoying.

I'll look at some of the other suggestions.

but will keep the soolantra in mind if they don't work for me.

wfcats · 26/05/2023 09:18

Azelaic acid via Skin + Me has really helped me. I also stopped taking multivitamins and weirdly that massively improved my skin.

I get mine via an online pharmacy - I have to pay £39 per tube but I only needed a couple to get rid.

pangolina · 26/05/2023 09:46

I gave up meat, and use azelaic acid and niacinamide

Is it b3 the one that's not good for rosacea?

aphrascott · 26/05/2023 11:47

I can cope with the redness (except he nose but that's rarely happens) but the pustules are awful.

Let us know how you get on, OP.

aphrascott · 26/05/2023 12:32

I think it's b12 possibly that's not good for rosacea

aphrascott · 26/05/2023 12:36

I think it's actually vitamin D, or too much Blush

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/05/2023 13:36

I thought it was b12 because mil got it into her head my rosacea was caused by my eating too much marmite, not realising the only time I really ate it was at her house.

wfcats · 26/05/2023 18:58

Haha I'm not sure which one! I was taking the massive pregnancy ones with absolutely everything in

tootiredtobother · 26/05/2023 19:02

oooh ive had this, i saw an ad on here, after washing your face dry it and then dab on organic apple cider vinegar leave it to dry and go to bed i did this for about a week and its gone.
husband was always saying 'you look rather red' which he hasn't done recently

ivisavisalign23 · 26/05/2023 19:19

GP, metronidazole + Azeliac acid

edgeware · 26/05/2023 19:29

I am trying IPL (lasering) to tackle it. I’ve only done one round. We’ll see how it goes. I’ve tried Skin & Me before but ultimately nothing topical will ‘cure’ it.

zig · 28/05/2023 20:00

My mum and sister recommend the Boots rosacea treatment serum. My whole family is prone to it and use Zenmed products as daily face wash, moisturiser etc from Dermacare direct. Also, La Roche Posay and Avene have specific products for rosacea. This link has ideas too. https://www.independent.co.uk/extras/indybest/fashion-beauty/skincare/best-rosacea-cream-products-uk-b1827996.html

I was advised to try giving up gluten due to developing stomach ache after eating certain foods (bread/biscuits/cakes/pasta etc). Not only sorted out my stomach ache but my dry skin improved and my rosacea disappeared!
