Rosacea! Anyone found an effective treatment.

I have developed rosacea on my cheek and am wondering if anyone has found an effective treatment.

Feeling pretty fed up as already battling post menopausal weight gain & hair loss so this feels like the last straw!

I am trying Dermalax as had some good reviews on Amazon, but would love to hear if anyone has had good results with anything.

Watching with interest . I have redness always under my nose and my nose goes red easily , like a beacon. More recently been getting small pimples on the red areas under my nose. Could this be rosacea?

MeeThree · 28/05/2023 20:39

Nothing has worked for mine unfortunately

Only thing that does work is covering my face in sun cream every day (I used the la Roche posay anthelios invisible one) and Cicapair Tiger Grass Colour correcting cream which does a brilliant job of covering up

Now I can cover it, I feel a lot better. My face is quite literally bright pink more than 50% of the time. I'm hoping it goes away as I get older (I'm 50 now but haven't hit menopause yet).

La roche posay has some nice creams. But the only effective way to get rid of it completely is laser. I had strong rosacea on cheeks and nose, lighter on my chin. I had 8 sessions last year , once a month roughly, and it has completely disappeared. I will do a laser once or twice a year now to keep it under control. It was quite expensive (around £120-£150 a session) but it bothered me for years.

I suddenly got the spots and redness and good oil mumsnet suggested soolantra which after 1 month has just about sorted it

Steptherapy · 28/05/2023 22:27

Thanks for all the responses, I’m really glad I started this thread. I’m waiting for a GP appointment & will ask about Soolantra.

in the meantime I have been using Dermalex Rosacea treatment since Friday and have seen an improvement - bumps are much less noticeable & I think the redness has improved a bit too. I am quite impressed with the change after only a couple of days. Not keen on the smell though! Just thought I’d mention it in case anyone wanted to give it a try.

I had this, not so much redness but tiny spots all over my nose, and up the sides which I worked out might be rosacea, brought on by pregnancy. My nose got really sore.

Anyway, I used the superdrug online chemist, couldn't face talking to the GP. I use that at night and azelaic acid in the morning and seems to be making a big difference. Has taken a few weeks though.

Laser treatment! It really works. I had large broken veins on my face and had a treatment called diathermy which basically cauterises them. Hurt like fuck but they've all gone.

bradwell · 29/05/2023 08:10

I try and control mine with diet - certain foods (and alcohol) make it worse , so I limit those. I also use Neutrogena spf 70 sunscreen and Cetaphil face wash. These all seem to ‘manage’ it pretty well.

TucSandwich · 29/05/2023 08:29

Thanks for this thread. I've just ordered some Soolantra from an online pharmacy.

I think diathermy is a form of laser but in my case it was used as a spot treatment for larger veins. The therapist used a pen type device which sends an electrical current into the vein.

He said that the larger lasers would be good for overall redness and tiny veins.

I didn't know to ask for diathermy when I went for my first appointment, I just asked if they had a thread vein removal service. Hope that helps.

I use Aqueous cream, it calms and moisturises and seems to keep the red at bay. Great for face and body.

Daffodi1970 · 29/05/2023 10:38

Hi, do you know what sub type of rosacea you have there are actually 4 different types. Keeping the skin barrier as healthy as possible is paramount for this condition. Solontra works well for lots but it also causes skin to get worse as many react to the cetaphil that’s in it. I have type 2 & found avene XD moisturiser along with the Ordinary Azeliac acid helped & my skin it’s been clear nearly 4 years now. I still react bad to the likes of heat & the sun so it’s important to use a mineral based sunscreen as ones with parabens & nasty chemicals will make the rosacea worse. I use one from the Green People it’s very moisturising & a great sun protection, although a I do wear a hat for walking the dog. In the winter my skin does get more dry so I also use a zinc based barrier cream it helps lock your moisturiser in & give that much needed protection to the cold outside & indoor heat.

Has anyone got the eye irritation one? Have just realised one of my children suffers from this . Always been told it’s blepharitis but realise now it’s Roseacea

anoceanofviolets · 29/05/2023 14:34

I had horrendous rosacea for years, and tried long-term oxytetracycline, metronidazole gel, and many different otc creams and skin care products. Then I discovered Rosalique and it has literally saved my skin. I now just have very slight pinkness on the apples of my cheeks, but the angry red bumps and broken veins are gone. It has a green tint that blends really well, and can be worn alone or under make up. Almost four years later I only use a spot on each cheek, so a tube last for ages. It acts as a treatment so took about 4 weeks for the inflammation to disappear completely, and it's never returned. I can't rate it highly enough 🙂. You can order trial sachets on their website.

This boots cream has been great along with cleansing and the soolantra cream, have been good, but not found an answer for the redness yet.

IPL at a reputable cosmetic treatment clinic - 3 to 6 rounds. In my case after 1 to 2 treatments it was 80% gone. Had no success with soolantra.

I suspect now that I have the eye irritation one. I sometimes get dry or bloodshot eyes. My optician said my eyes were healthy and I was advised to use eye drops for day and ointment for night, plus heated eye masks.

If it is actually part of rosacea I'm not sure how that's diagnosed or treated.

I'm not sure a laser would help me as I have the lumps pustules, but they come and go and I have nice clear skin in between.

aphrascott · 29/05/2023 18:17

I put on the metronidazole, with azelaic and niacinamide, last night and my skin went really red. I've been layering a roch posay lotion over it as instructed.

I think there's an improvement already but that might be wishful thinking as it's too early to tell.

aphrascott · 29/05/2023 18:19

I've tried a Clinique yellow powder for the redness but it makes me look orange.

It's absolutely shite, what a waste of money that stuff is!

Giselletheunicorn · 29/05/2023 19:22

Reading all this with interest as I'm fairly new to this rosacea stuff too. SPF 50 face cream is the biggest thing that's made a difference so far.
