Rosacea! Anyone found an effective treatment.

I have developed rosacea on my cheek and am wondering if anyone has found an effective treatment.

Feeling pretty fed up as already battling post menopausal weight gain & hair loss so this feels like the last straw!

I am trying Dermalax as had some good reviews on Amazon, but would love to hear if anyone has had good results with anything.

Soolantra cleared mine up 90% but it took a while. It doesn’t get rid of thread veins / broken capillaries, but it does calm the redness and zaps rosacea spots.

It took about 6 weeks of daily use to work for me. Now if I feel a breakout coming I use it for a day or two and it keeps it at bay.

I also changed my skincare. Avene anti-redness cleanser - lovely and gentle - and light, fragrance feee moisturisers. Oils if any toe - even anti inflammatory ones like jojoba or rosehip - bring it back with a vengeance.

BobsYerAunty · 29/05/2023 19:26

That should’ve said oils of any kind!

Spanielsarepainless · 29/05/2023 19:41

Rosex on prescription kept mine under control but menopause has sorted it out permanently.

aphrascott · 29/05/2023 20:08

Menopause, well peri, is when my rosacea started. I'll soon see if HRT will help.

OrchidFlakes · 29/05/2023 20:45

Soolantra can work for the acne/spot part of rosacea but not for the broken capillaries.
IPL is an option as is an ND YAG/1064 laser. Go to a reputable skin and laser clinic and generally the results are very good after a few treatments. Dermalux LED is a great option too but not as quick as laser/IPL and only generally reduces redness rather than targeting specific areas/capillaries.

Has anyone got the eye irritation one? Have just realised one of my children suffers from this . Always been told it’s blepharitis but realise now it’s Roseacea

I had that and was told it was blepharitis which is linked to my rosacea. I remember something about occular rosacea being mentioned too. Luckily mine went as quickly as it came and now I only have dry eyes. I used to wake up with my eyelids stuck and had to do hot compresses daily for the irritation.

Soolantra helped massively for me for the redness and dry flakey skin. It's been a miracle for me in truth, both in terms of base line redness and for the fact that I no longer get the flare ups either.

@Truestorypeeps

Thanks for that, I'll definitely go & have a look for some & give it a go. I've been putting off dealing with it because I didn't want antibiotics. But I'm really looking like Rudolph most of the time. Or a flushed alcoholic.

Best of luck. The only thing that I still remember about taking Oxytetracycline was the fact that I would burn horrendously... Even with factor 40 on it made me much more susceptible to catching the sun. Agreed, better to not take daily antibiotics if you can.

This is interesting, I was under the impression the way to fix it was antibiotics hadron the GP?

that's what the specialist said. Unfortunately I was there for something else & he was unable to prescribe, just said to see GP.

I was given anti biotics for 3 months I think - was prescribed by a dermatologist . I am going back about 10 years ago but it did clear it

DobbleDobble · 30/05/2023 08:58

For the op’s using tiger grass cc cream are you using that under foundation?
I have redness from lots of tiny broken veins on face and have to use foundation
i tried rosaliaque but as I understand that’s to be used on own not under foundation? Is tiger grass the same?
I looked up dermatica but I can see the formula would work for rosacea but possibly not for the redness from broken veins.
its so confusing.

chatw0o0 · 30/05/2023 11:08

I had rosacea for a long time before a GP pointed out what it was and provided me with a Dermatologist referral.

  • I underwent laser treatment for the broken capillaries, I had a lot of these. It also helps with the nose bumps! This was 3-4 fairly intense sessions, and I go back for a yearly 'top up'.
  • Soolantra for when the redness/irritation flares up. Luckily this only happens around once a year/18 months now.
  • Medicated lotion with 20% Azelaic acid for the little bumps that appear on my cheeks/side of face.

My skincare routine is pretty simple otherwise: Inky List oat cleanser; Cerave moisturiser and undereye cream.

@Starlightstarbright1

thank you for your message.

I don't deal with antibiotics very well, which is why I didn't follow it up at the time.

However, I'll build up to dealing with my GP to get the other products to try.

GP wants me on meds for something else & I don't want to take them, it's a bit of a 'I won't see you for anything else, until you comply... even completely unrelated things! I could be hit by a bus in and it would be blamed on not taking the meds)

@Truestorypeeps oh dear, that's a worry. I'm already feeling like my face is burning, even when I'm not in the sun. It's rettt much what started me looking at the issue again.

who would you go to for Soolantra if you didn't want to go to your GP?

Isabelle70 · 30/05/2023 18:13

@ThirstyThursday you can do an online consultation with Superdrug or other online pharmacies.

GalaApples · 30/05/2023 18:29

I have a homeopathic ointment that I put on my nose, which helps, though have not used it on the rest of my face. It was prescribed by a homeopath, but he gets it from Galens near Dorchester.

CoolShoeshine · 30/05/2023 19:13

Things which have helped my 20+ year battle with rosacea (basically I went from teen acne to rosacea):

soolantra and rosex, both good. I find that after a while my skin gets resistant to the one I am using so I have to try the other

rosalique - I’ve only just started using this having got a sample size but it’s toning my skin down already. I brush on a light layer under foundation and have stopped wearing concealer. It makes an excellent base and is spf 50.

Diet - clean eating definitely works but I’m a failure at that

electrolysis from a beautician has zapped away most of my thread veins for a very reasonable price. Have also tried Ipl but for me that didn’t work and was regrettably expensive.

@Isabelle70 Thsnk you, I'll try that! 😊

I'm awake now because my face is burning.

RememberToSmile1980 · 31/05/2023 05:21

Following - some great advice on here!

miraveille · 31/05/2023 05:29

I got a compound prescription a few weeks ago from a facialist where I live which consists of Ivermectin (which is the active ingredient in Soolantra that so many have mentioned, and was that drug that caused all that controversy in US during Covid!), metronidazole and azaelic acid and so far is working like a charm!

gingerpassthegin · 31/05/2023 05:43

I had this, brought on by menopause - but I had to have my appendix out and the quantities of antibiotics were so large that it went and hasn't come back a couple of years on. Result!

HarriR · 31/05/2023 09:23

Such a good thread. Thank you ladies. Perimenopause certainly hasn't helped it. I too suffer from the wino or sunburnt nose look. Panda eyes too, where around then are "normal" colour, above the cheeks.Hadn't thought about Lazer treatment will lol into that.

Daffodi1970 · 31/05/2023 18:25

It could very well be Ocular rosacea which is rosacea within the eye, it can develop due to autoimmune conditions, this is how I developed it or due to demodex mites which live on everyone’s skin & eyelids, they just effect people with rosacea more

Daffodi1970 · 31/05/2023 18:32

Metriodonzale can be very drying on the skin so this in turn effects your skins barrier so when you add the likes of azeliac acid it will burn, personally I would moisture well & them add a very small amount of azeliac acid it probably will tingle for the first few days while your skins barrier recovers & then if you feel you need to add in the niacinamide I can’t use that it makes my skin flare but many use it with great success. I would leave off the metro gel the AZ is really good stuff

Daffodi1970 · 31/05/2023 18:36

Yes invermentin is amazing as if you have demodex mites it wipes them out, you generally go through a phase of a purge where your skin will get worse but it’s working so stick with it & when it gets better some say about 12 weeks you need to keep with it for then you can drop down to weekly & then monthly maintenance of using it

Isabelle70 · 31/05/2023 19:15

The Ivermectin 1% Metronidazole 0.75% Niacinamide 4% in my Dermatica treatment has certainly sorted out the demodex mites that I have on my skin.
I do wonder if I could stop with the treatment but I don't want to rosacea to come back so I will carry on.
