I have ordered this and can't decide whether it's lovely or terrible 😂. I am drawn to the fugly things in fashion. I love a fugly pair of shoes for example.

But is this just massively dumpy looking?

I am tall and can usually pull off this sort of shape, so that isn't my concern. It's the print I'm in two minds about.

What do you think? Terrible? Amazing? Neither? Return it? Keep it? Burn it and stage an exorcism?

I thought hospital gown too - but maybe the effect would be lessened by some actual shoes

Floisme · 24/05/2023 17:53

What charming comments you have attracted op.

Toast dresses aren't my thing and that one is no different. But I really like Toast trousers, in fact if I don't get to die in Vivienne Westwood or Margaret Howell they'll be my next choice.

Snowtrails · 24/05/2023 18:16

Nan Core.

On the other hand, fashions come and go and it does look comfy!

changewhale · 24/05/2023 18:18

Do you like the Simone Fat Face dresses? They give me similar vibes

avocadotofu · 24/05/2023 18:21

I actually love it. I think it looks like a lovely relaxed summer dress. I suppose it depends a bit on your build.

Thanks, but for some reason, they aren't to my taste.

It would look no good on me.

It also looks no good on the model.

So I'd say no. 👎

NotTheMrMenAgain · 24/05/2023 18:39

Erm, I like the fact it’s organic cotton and hand printed but it is really very ugly. Not fugly. I like the odd fugly item, but that’s just ugly. The model is beautiful, young and I assume very slim and tall - and it looks awful in her!

If I wore that - as a 40-something, short, curvy woman, I’d look like I’d escaped from a fundamentalist Christian sect.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 24/05/2023 19:42

It's very expensive for something you are just going to wear to lounge around at home .

PaddlingPoollyColour · 24/05/2023 19:45

Home, beach, garden, maybe out for walks when it's super hot. I don't do much else in the summer, so it will be cheap per wear if it turns out to be nice

This thread has reminded me - 5 years ago I posted a link on here to a Toast dress I loved, and was told I was deluded. It was called potato sack, Amish, fugly, dreary, etc and the price (£100) was insane for what it was.

I still wear that dress - and the identical one I bought in another colour - CONSTANTLY throughout the summer. And still get compliments on them. They've been totally worth it.

So I think if you love it and you can see yourself wearing it frequently - go for it! (Even if you don't have an Italian farmhouse and garden.)

Iknowthis1 · 24/05/2023 20:30

I'm getting this sort of vibe from it.

I didn't remember until I started the thread, but when I saw the responses I remembered an old one I had about a Cos dress I'd got in the sale. Similar comments then too, including hospital gown 😂

I bloody loved that dress and wore it to death. So possibly this will be a winner too. I do need to try it on though

My Nan used to wear this to clean her step. You’ll need to accessorise with your rollers and a fag hanging out your mouth though.

😂

MidsummerNightsDream · 24/05/2023 20:35

I like it. Like the shape. I’m not sure what the print is (little animals or suggestions of little animals?) but I like it.

lostinmaze · 24/05/2023 20:46

It looks like a hospital gown as a pp said, sorry op but it's not very fetching, and a lot of money for lounging in the garden in.

SquaresandStarlings · 24/05/2023 23:23

It does look like a Seasalt dress to me, which would have been at least half the price.

Oh. Seasalt was flattering then!

IMO it's slightly over the frumpy edge, but if you like it that's all that matters. I do have a couple of Toast dresses and love the simple styles but v fussy on prints. I'm now using dress patterns of near identical styles from a lady who does digital downloads on Etsy for a tenner, and making them up in Liberty tana lawn (bought on sale!) or linen....super easy to do, more colour/patterns than you can imagine, you can easily tailor to fit your height/shape and even with liberty, costs less than 50% of Toast ones (linen cost about a third of the price). Worth looking into if you like this kind of thing.

At front end can you share who you use please? 🙏

Millicentmargaretamandaholden · 24/05/2023 23:41

I love the dress OP 😳 I wouldn’t just lounge in it, I’d end up wearing it everywhere and everyone would think me a total frump as I have a matronly bosom and backside and an certainly not willow. I hope you look spectacular!

PerryMenno · 24/05/2023 23:47

I think it's one of those rare occasions where a super slim model doesn't do the garment justice.

I'm quite statuesque and curvy and would give it more shape, it would probably look ok. (Though I don't like the pattern or colour so wouldn't wear it!).

A good example of why shops should show clothes worn by different bodies.

spangleswereace · 24/05/2023 16:11

It reminds me of a hospital gown...sorry!

Or a nightdress

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/05/2023 00:17

Well the photos dont do it any favours, its like a girl wearing something her mum made her wear with a "Really?!!" caption!

That said, I agree it has more than a whiff of the things they give you to wear to have an X-Ray in!

QueenBitch666 · 25/05/2023 02:10

I can see Cissy and Ada wearing this Grin
