I have ordered this and can't decide whether it's lovely or terrible 😂. I am drawn to the fugly things in fashion. I love a fugly pair of shoes for example.

But is this just massively dumpy looking?

I am tall and can usually pull off this sort of shape, so that isn't my concern. It's the print I'm in two minds about.

What do you think? Terrible? Amazing? Neither? Return it? Keep it? Burn it and stage an exorcism?

I love Toast but this is a no from me, i think..

Although, I could possibly imagine wearing it pottering around the garden of my beautiful Italian farmhouse, first thing in the morning. Picking herbs, with a cup of coffee in hand in an artisan mug, before the day got too warm.

Do you have an Italian farmhouse with a herb garden, OP? If so, it's probably fine.

paradoxicalfrog · 24/05/2023 16:28

Sorry, I don't like it, either - it looks like a maternity dress to me.

GoodQuestion01 · 24/05/2023 16:29

You could wear it on holiday to just wander around in when it’s boiling hot. But you wouldn’t want to spend that much on something like that. It would look hideous on me.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 24/05/2023 16:30

I like fugly but that's a bit too ugly and unflattering unless your in ya nineties 🤣

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 24/05/2023 16:31

There are some pieces from Toast that I think are fabulous. This is not one of them. Sorry. It's so drab. That shape in a plain colour would be less 'Nana's housecoat".

PaddlingPoollyColour · 24/05/2023 16:21

{takes notes} rollers, check, fag hanging out of mouth, check. Now, would you say the step cleaning is part of the whole look or could I still make it work without doing any cleaning 🤔?

Step cleaning in pop socks mandatory.

You can pick one of these dresses up for a tenner from any market though…

PaddlingPoollyColour · 24/05/2023 16:32

It's arriving tomorrow so I will definitely try to report back!

I saw another one on there today which I might order instead, but it wouldn't serve the same function really...

Going to check out the Toast appreciation thread now too!

It reminds me of a hospital gown...sorry!

This was my first thought too! Sorry OP.

SirChenjins · 24/05/2023 16:33

No no no - it looks like Toast have bought a job lot of rejects from the market and are flogging them to the gullible 😂

PaddlingPoollyColour · 24/05/2023 16:33

Step cleaning in pop socks mandatory.

Damn it!

IMO it's slightly over the frumpy edge, but if you like it that's all that matters. I do have a couple of Toast dresses and love the simple styles but v fussy on prints. I'm now using dress patterns of near identical styles from a lady who does digital downloads on Etsy for a tenner, and making them up in Liberty tana lawn (bought on sale!) or linen....super easy to do, more colour/patterns than you can imagine, you can easily tailor to fit your height/shape and even with liberty, costs less than 50% of Toast ones (linen cost about a third of the price). Worth looking into if you like this kind of thing.

DiscoHippo · 24/05/2023 16:38

It’s a little like the dresses from Plumo - you want them to look good on you but there’s a dark art that only a model and stylist can pull off, and even then you get some right proper monstrosities. I’m tall and in good shape and Toast just swamps me

Marchintospring · 24/05/2023 16:38

I think it’s ok but faIrly ubiquitous. Certainly not £120 worth.

Also nothing lasts forever. In a few years it will look “ wrong” and a bit dated.

Buy it in the sale maybe.

YouNeverSeeTheRealMe · 24/05/2023 16:39

That's quite ugly. I'm 64 and wouldn't wear it.

PrincessofWellies · 24/05/2023 16:40

PaddlingPoollyColour · 24/05/2023 16:19

Yes, I know, but I'm justifying it by saying it is an 'investment'. Hoping it will last forever

Don't forget Toast do repairs if a garment becomes ripped or damaged 😀

Don't forget Toast do repairs if a garment becomes ripped or damaged 😀

Do they? That's great! OP it can be an heirloom! You'll just have to hope Toast are still going into your later years

paradoxicalfrog · 24/05/2023 16:43

The model is described as "5ft 9in/175cm tall and is wearing a size XS". If a 5ft 9in model wearing the XS size looks this frumpy, how voluminous are the larger sizes? It would also be a very simple dress to sew yourself - not worth £120 IMO even if organic cotton and hand screen-printed.

GloriousintheArctic · 24/05/2023 16:44

I like it.
My nan wouldn't have been seen dead in it, if that helps 😃

Trickedbyadoughnut · 24/05/2023 16:47

I like it 😅I always think I would wear stuff like this if I was tall, willowy and beautiful ... In reality I'd look better wearing a bag for life 😆

Gingerwarthog · 24/05/2023 16:52

I love it.
I would wear it.
In fact, I might order it.
Reckon I could rock the Nan chic look though with rollers and fag .... and a headscarf. Vintage.

Shahira78 · 24/05/2023 16:53

Jesus! £100? I'll sew you one for a fiver.

QuintanaRoo · 24/05/2023 16:53

I love a fugly toast dress but Jesus. No. Please return it.

Padstow58 · 24/05/2023 16:56

It looks like the "smock" my Nan used to wear to do housework in.

It's a no from me.

But if you're not offended by the look of it, it does seem very comfy to wear so there is that going for it.

thedogisstaring · 24/05/2023 17:03

I love a bit of fugly but that is just plain frumpy!

catmothertes1 · 24/05/2023 17:04

£120 for such a dress? Asda is full of the same style at the moment.
