Summer Goth/ Goth Lite

crochetmonkey74 · 24/05/2023 10:21

I need some advice -I have always had a slightly goth edge - think stars/ skulls etc - as I have got older it has kind of disappeared a bit and I have lost my style - but i am slowly finding my way back to it. I love Theo Fennell Jewellery, Alexander Mc Queen Vivienne Westwood. That sort of thing. How can I incorporate Goth ish elements inot my 48 year old wardrobe and still look styish?
Also, what bag can I use for the summer? My black leather backpack feels too heavy for the Summer

I was always on a victorian side of things but as I got older and my career progressed I have moved towards "cottage" goth so to say :) To me longer (calf length) dresses give both an edge and the class. Try tea dresses in darker colours, longer sun dresses with buttons in front. Straw bags are good for summer and also trendy.

I like the cottage goth look on others but as I am short and dumpy, I look more like Professor Sprout. My leaning is sort of Vivienne Westwood/ Edgiest Kate Moss/ Claudia Winkleman ish
I like a plain outfit and a large skull or star ring/ my backpack is an Alexander Mc Queen embossed leather skull one (all black)
I was wondering about edging into the Mexican vibe for summer - black and white embroidered dress/ top etc and then a Virgin Mary/ Sacred heart tote?

My best piece of jewellery I used to love was a large silver cross - really simple and solid - no engraving etc which I wore on a thin black ribbon. I was always a sort of minimalist goth and need help finding myself again (I've just bought stuff that will do from Supermarkets etc for a while so I want to be more intentional)

What do you reckon?

A Mexican vibe sounds great! Go for it. I like the same as you - a plain outfit (usually black, white or grey in summer) along with tan leather and big silver jewellery (stars and spikes are my thing). I love close fitting trousers and a massive airy T-shirt in summer. Am also into black and white gingham (or any gingham really!) and love little splashes of bright pink and red, although wouldn't wear clothing in those colours.

I love that Scamp and Dude dress! That's really nice. I am not as keen on the bag - as I don't like that sort of faded washed look on the fabric

What sort of shoes would I wear? Maybe a metallic platform trainer? or a chunkier something? What are your thoughts on Fly shoes to match my aesthetic?

For shoes, Lofina if you've got the budget (I haven't) 😢

Oh yeah- gingham- I never thought of that! I had a sort of blousy tunic thing years ago in black and white gingham seersucker that I would love now!

I get lots of inspiration from here. It's not really goth, more alternative (and pricey!) but I like to look at the styles and then recreate similar with cheaper stuff

@Chypre where are those dresses from?

Zipps · 24/05/2023 11:52

Not a goth I'm more a tad
biker chick/punky/edgy + classic style
You might like:
All Saints
Thomas sabo rebel collection - I have several of the men's jewelry pieces
I also love Alexander McQueen handbags with the skulls on, I can't decide which one to get.
I have black chunky doc martens sandals and white platform converse - they go with everything.

Yes
I loved All Saints a while back but I think it has lost it a bit- Forgot about Thomas Sabo- definitely a more affordable option than Theo Fennell! I like The Great Frog too. I like the shoe advice- thank you!

Another style Icon for me is Noel Fielding - I was thinking of black skinny trousers and a large sort of floppy Hawaiian or quirky print shirt could be another summer outfit

A look I love is when Caitlin Moran wears tights and shorts, with a sort of floppy boho shirt

Still stuck on the summer handbag/ backpack though

A lot of my All Saints is from up to 10 years ago but I still love their tshirts and tops they fit so well too. Zara have some distressed ribbed vest tops in grey which look tempting. Lots of black and khaki shorts about as well as loads of denim, satin and metallic items. I'm thinking of a black satin midi skirt I saw online, River Island? It would look great with a biker or denim jacket, vest top and either of the footwear I mentioned.
I often wear faux leather jeans in spring summer on cooler nights/days with the converse.

I say where whatever you want, 48 or not! In my local Tesco I frequently see a woman who is easily in her 70s, with coloured dreads, Doc Martins and long flowery skirts. She look ace 😀

*wear, not where!! FFS.... lol

idrinkandiknowthings · 24/05/2023 12:44

Just following on from my previous post, I used to be a full-on Goth. I'm 56 in October and still wear mainly black - cargo/combat trousers etc. I still rock a red lipstick and wouldn't ever have any colour. I wear platform Vans.

I frankly don't give a flying fuck what other people may think.

Mumteedum · 24/05/2023 12:50

I'm 48. Was a teen goth/indie kid and def don't have mainstream taste. Weirdly think I had a boring phase in my thirties but want to be more 'me' again now.

I've bought a few things from Forgotten Tribes and have been eyeing up a coupon of skirts from disturbia.

Mumteedum · 24/05/2023 12:50

Couple..not coupon ffs

Aozora13 · 24/05/2023 12:51

Maybe try Little Lies? Not goth, more rock chick / boho festival style. I’ve not bought anything from there so can’t vouch for the quality. I like Disturbia too. I’m not good at summer footwear (prefer boots or hi-tops) but I’m eyeing up some TUK sandals.

MadEyeMoodysEye · 24/05/2023 13:03

I'm going to be living in my Teva flatform sandals in summer, great with dresses or jeans.

EMP have some nice dresses. What about this?

This one is a bit too busy/ quirky for me - it's hard - I know what I don't like but I can't picture what I like! Thanks for looking though
