Is it possible to stretch leather shoes? I have some good ones but hurt where I have a bunion.

barmycatmum · 24/05/2023 07:23

Tieks. :) I love them for the summer!

Aslanplustwo · 24/05/2023 07:28

Flat black or tan leather sandals. They have to be comfortable as I wear them on my journey to work as well as at work. It's too hot here for me to wear anything too closed in summer.

I have brittle bones disease and Ehlers danlos, as well as Mortons neuroma. I have very bad feet and cannot wear heels. Doctors want to do toe amputation for bone necrosis but I refuse. Shoes in summer can be pure hell. While I work from home in trainers a lot, if I do have to get dressed up I go for Rieka brand, as they are wide fitting and soles are padded. Ideal for poorly feet but also trendy looking. Not cheap but ebay sometimes has bargains!

This is currently top of my first world problems list!! I can't wear ballet pumps because they literally don't stay on my feet. Ditto loafers. And I have flat feet and wear orthotic insoles so ideally need something i can wear those with, although for just round the office I could manage without.
I actually don't like wearing shoes without socks, they always seem to make my feet sweatier.
I'm also a distance runner so tend to have brown legs and white feet during the summer months which sandals looks ridiculous and the world doesn't need to see my toenails.
ARGH!!

Flat sling backs so they are cool but don't show my toe nails. I have them in silver that go with everything, pink and red.

champagneplanet · 24/05/2023 13:35

I've just bought these leather ballet flats in nude and also black and they are very comfortable.

Saw the silver in store and they are also nice but the neutral colours will go with more.

Clarks - they usually have a softer brogue for summer. No toes allowed out in my office

BirdIsland · 24/05/2023 17:44

@LuciferRising same here, just over 5 foot, and trying to get over the mindset of heels = grown up. It's hard though, when you're in a room with a load of middle aged men who tower over you, and you're trying to hold your own! Heels feel really dated to me these days though, so I'm going to treat myself to some really nice flats and embrace my height (or lack of it!).

FurAndFeathers · 24/05/2023 18:02

toms are great. Comfy but smart enough

Shinyandnew1 · 24/05/2023 18:02

Birkenstocks-I find them super comfortable

changewhale · 24/05/2023 18:20

Stick to closed toe if you want to look smart

TheChosenTwo · 24/05/2023 18:32

When I was in schools I wore brogues mainly in the summer. Hot but no open toe policy plus I loathe feet so prefer them covered anyway and I’ve never seen a pair of sandals that I’d consider putting on my feet!
Now I mainly wfh but when I go into the office it’s really casual so I wear trainers (commute on train and tube) or toms, sometimes brogues depending on what I’m wearing.

EverydayParis · 24/05/2023 18:32

I was thinking of getting these £39 from Next, not leather though.

previous years I’ve had mesh sling backs from Zara they were great.

Arche Onyri ballerinas
Geox loafers/ballerinas

Watching for inspiration. Also need closed toes.

cheapskatemum · 24/05/2023 19:02

I bought FitFlop sandals that had 3 Velcro straps: toe, above instep and round the heel, so you could adjust them to your individual foot/feet. Not covered toe this though. Then thankfully, when it got really hot, we were allowed to wear sandals that weren't fastened at the back & I wore my original Fitflops.

As in the canvas shoes? I don’t know how you can class these as smart, they’re basically beach shoes!
this thread is depressing, I think I’d rather be hot in tights and boots than wear any of these shoes!

Totally agree

FurAndFeathers · 24/05/2023 19:45

Perhaps it’s down to personal style and flair!

I find women who support unnecessary discomfort to support patriarchal standards depressing myself but each to their own! 😊

SilverGlitterBaubles · 24/05/2023 19:52

Flat closed toe sling backs can look really nice and cool too in hot weather

Coronationstation · 24/05/2023 19:55

@FurAndFeathers ok they’re slightly smarter than the Toms I had in mind! I doubt I’d be able to wear them though.

They were a suggestion for the OP

likely too ‘depressing’ for you to consider 🙄
stick to being hot and uncomfortable instead eh?
