@NatashaDancing like a flasher?! 😂

Ha ha.

Something like this.

How can I make this more sophisticated?
SaltyColin · 22/05/2023 16:19

No. Really not something like that.

winelove · 22/05/2023 16:29

I an 57 fat but not frumpy, I would die to be able to wear that dress.
You don't need to look sophisticated. You need to look young and beautiful.
Make sure your hair and make up are perfect. Don't go too heavy on the make up. Understated jewellery. Wear with a smile and confidence.
Go for it!

verdantverdure · 22/05/2023 16:54

It's basically a high street version of a Roland Mouret dress, many versions of which have been seen in pretty much every high end restaurant for like 20 years, so I don't quite get the horror.

Is it?

Which one?

If he does a thigh high split it's usually high neck and full length.

And obviously a RM dress is cut to skim rather than cling.

SquaresandStarlings · 22/05/2023 17:22

I think a jumper over it is a big no - far too casual. I would buy a reasonably priced tailored jacket - Zara or H&M, to go over it, maybe even in a similar but matching colour.

Have a look at Lydia Tomlinson's styling videos - she's a genius at elevating casual and inexpensive stuff with the right accessories and outerwear:

Also the Instagram account @Whatemwore is full of good tips on styling occasion wear things like your dress.

It's a high street take on something like a Roland Mouret dress, not a slavish copy of a specific one. It will look fine.

I have a couple of RM's. For some of his dresses it's not actually the cut, but that they're sort of corseted inside or have like a mesh superlining that creates the illusion of skimming. I'm grateful for the internal construction, OP doesn't seem to need it.

But kind of beside the point?

verdantverdure · 22/05/2023 17:40

Yes. And sculptural draping.

It's not just stretch fabric over body parts.

I honestly wouldn't compare the two.

trailrunner85 · 22/05/2023 18:39

Have you got the dress already and tried it on, OP?

Reason I ask is that on the main picture it looks like a nice dress (for someone young and with an incredible figure, obvs) but in the "review" photos from real customers it looks really cheap. It doesn't seem to fit anyone properly - the slit is far too big and pulls strangely, and it's so sheer you can see the line of one woman's bellybutton through it. Maybe they just bought a size too small though.

If you've already got it, I hope you rock it and look fabulous.

Rosabellll · 22/05/2023 22:14

You can smell the jealousy mules off OP 😂

Perfectly fine dress with a smart blazer and strappy heels.
Some of the other dress suggestions on here are SO square and give off sherry in a thimble vibes, and not something I'd wear for at least another 30 years.

I'm in my 20s and I don't go to clubs but bars and restaurants of all types that dress is fine.

In my clubbing days I would NOT wear that dress 😂

Go for it OP. I think you'll look lovely.

Bunce1 · 22/05/2023 22:22

Dress is amazing. Perfect for your age and event. Go for it.

JMAngel1 · 23/05/2023 10:16

Now this is more like it!
Finally someone has linked a dress that is gorgeous - it doesn't need anything except an oversized blazer - take it off when you get inside - some beautiful gold jewellery and some high heel mules/strappy sandals.

I would stick to cream/neutral palette for the whole outfit.

Thank you! Yes I've ordered myself some cream heels, will tie up my hair and have gold earrings and necklace 💕

I think it’s possible that those of us who don’t think this dress is aimed at looking sophisticated are the ones who looked at the photos in the reviews.

ididntwanttodoit · 24/05/2023 09:07

This dress looks cheap and is cheap. It is unlikely ever to look sophisticated. However ... if you must wear it, a blazer (pref oversized) would be better than a card. Don't dress it up with any jewellery, perhaps simple gold hoop earrings, nothing more. Flat/flattish shoes (NO HEELS!). Sheer tights much dressier than bare legs. Tie your hair back in a low pony or chignon. Keep makeup neutral. Simple clutch bag. BTW check you have no VPL.

Girlattheback · 24/05/2023 13:25

This thread is hilarious thanks to all of the comments. So much judgement! 😂

OP the sun’s finally out and your white dress will look fabulous. Strappy heels and gold jewellery are the perfect choice. Enjoy your event.

NatashaDancing · 22/05/2023 16:11

The Galaxy dress looks nothing like that.

Occasionally a S&B thread comes along that makes me wish you could see the person behind each post

Why? Why do you think only jealousy makes someone dislike that dress? I don't like it. I don't think it's a nice dress. I wouldn't have worn anything like that even when I was a size 6.

I didn’t mention jealousy Confused I just wonder who these people are that are happy to tell strangers online that they will look like a prostitute if they wear a certain thing.

changewhale · 24/05/2023 17:11

NatashaDancing · 22/05/2023 13:08

I don't know why not liking dresses like this has to be down to being jealous. Even when I was a size 6/ 8 I wouldn't have worn something like that.

Personally I think it's awful ( it would be better without the cut out back) but it's not me who's wearing it, but if you're going to wear it , then be bold about it.

An MN approved blazer is grim too. In the restaurant a blazer will look weird and getting to and from the restaurant then whatever coat/ jacket is to hand is fine.

Yes a blazer would look shit.

OP. The dress is not to my taste - to make it more sophisticated I would enquire if the split could be stitched up a little.

I think however you mustn't cover the back in this dress. That is one of the key features and if you don't like it then this isn't the dress for you.

I suggest kitten heels and a small chanel bag. Perhaps a dainty watch and a chain but let the dress do most the talking.

Please don't wear a blazer with it. It will look terrible

One person (not me) said that.

Several posters have referred to "bitterness" "jealousy" and similar or in your case "wishing to see the person behind the post" . Why ? To see if they're old, fat, jealous, bitter?

Having looked at some of the photos of people wearing the dress, it would be a lot nicer, quite elegant and a lot more like a Mouret dress if it didn't have the slit. The slit doesn't work with a stretchy material. On anyone who isn't tiny the slit stretches so that it's not so much a slit but a gaping missing bit of fabric. The sleeves are great.

I do agree with the last 2 posters - don't wear a blazer.
