@BuffyTheCat it's for my boyfriends brothers birthday, I get in great with the family and no need to be conservative for this event

to the poster who said this dress is for role play.. LOOOOL, I’d love to be a fly on the wall in your bedroom.

PegasusReturns · 22/05/2023 10:40

@BuffyTheCat

you’d really judge if your sons girlfriend wore this dress to dinner? JFC. Another person on this thread revealing more about them than they think.

lookingforMolly · 22/05/2023 10:40

I've been with colleagues who dress like that on evenings out to restaurants especially if they're going into town afterwards and they do look good.
I'm overweight so wouldn't wear it myself but lots of women from teens to 50s wear bodycon with heels in restaurants and bars in my locality, it's quite normal.

Ah well, that sounds great! Hope you have a lovely time.

pompypomppomp · 22/05/2023 10:42

Yes it's for a night on the town after and a fancy hotel stay, so I like the dress because it will suit a bar setting too!:)

It looks like a large tubigrip

Hahaha, I thought that was Tupperware before I googled. It kinda does

Gosh, it’s totally appropriate for a nice birthday dinner! You’ll look great. And if anything I think if you wore that full coverage neck to shins number linked in the first page you’d look a bit out of place. It looks like something you’d wear while being shoved through the streets of King’s Landing with someone ringing the shame bell behind you.

Theraffarian · 22/05/2023 10:44

Sort of dress lots of my (younger) colleagues would wear to a dinner at a local chain restaurant if we were going to a bar afterwards . I’d probably go with a blazer type jacket for arrival but don’t spoil it with a jumper .

definitely decent shapewear so you don’t get a knicker/thong line as nothing makes a dress look less sophisticated.

Honestly I say make the most of being young and having a fab figure .

GoldDuster · 22/05/2023 10:45

I'm not sure a jumper round your shoulders is going to add much sophistiation, if you're going to wear it because you don't have anything you'd feel more elegant in for a v posh restaurant, just go for it.

pompypomppomp · 22/05/2023 10:46

YoucancallmeKAREN · 22/05/2023 09:57

There is nothing that would make that dress sophisticated but if you have the figure go for it and enjoy it.

I'm beginning to think you're right! oh well

I think you're best letting us know what you've already got in your wardrobe to go with the dress OP if you're looking to not spend.

pottytrainingggg · 21/05/2023 22:23

What is your colouring OP?

Sorry didn't see this, I'm blonde and fair but I'll have a bit of fake tan on.

I think the classiest thing to do is be you and own it. Trying to be something you are not will always stick out and make you seem awkward. If you feel confident in the dress, wear it with pride.

No, I wouldn’t. I already said I love the dress.

But some people do judge, and I think it’s worth considering that, especially if meeting someone for the first time at a posh restaurant. It doesn’t make the judging ok, but the judging can have consequences. That’s why I said it depends on the occasion.

Kreftla · 22/05/2023 10:50

I think it will be fine. They will understand that you don’t have any money, and I’m sure there will be others there who are also in that position. Do you not have any other dresses that you could dress up, rather than trying to dress this one down?

bryceQ · 22/05/2023 10:54

If you're young with a great figure just wear the dress you love. If you're happy and confident you will look great

PegasusReturns · 22/05/2023 11:11

consequences like what? The son dumps the GF for wearing a body con dress. Or his parents think less of the GF? Really in those circumstances the former would be a lucky escape and the latter…well so what?!

Consequences like the parents (I actually said grandparents, but whatever) might make hurtful comments that would make the young person feel bad. I don’t agree that it’s a case of ‘so what’.

In an ideal world, no one would judge anyone by their clothes. I think you and I probably agree on that. I’ve said twice that I love the dress. The OP has confirmed that she isn’t going to be in the scenario that I was thinking of. So I’m not keen to derail further.

@aNewYorkerInLondon I appreciate honesty! Not every has the same style, then the world would be v boring. What do you mean 'working'?

To be blunt, I meant relatively higher-mid-range prostitutes. It’s super common to see in the bars of very expensive restaurants, especially in cities that see lots of business travel. This sort of dress is also common on very young ladies that are accompanying much older men in a “sugar daddy” type situation — though I feel like I see this much more often in New York than in London.

We go to three-star restaurants fairly frequently and have many friends in the business, so these are just my observations from these lovely evenings out and from the stories told to us by our friends in the business.

I think that it can be even harder to choose the right clothing when everything looks good on you! This is where dressing according to the type of event / location is helpful. I'm really not trying to be mean. You can absolutely find a look that is both dirty hot and sophisticated. The main thing it typically to balance where you’re showing skin and where you’re not, balance sexy elements with those you’re leaving to a bit of imagination.

For example, showing lots of leg? Choose a higher neckline and a slim, low kitten heel. But with a midi hemline (without the thigh-baring slit), choose your highest stilettos and rock the lower neckline. Going sheer? Keep the neckline higher and the hem lower, all the better to see through to what you’re trying to show off.

TheShade · 22/05/2023 11:33

Oversized blazer, worn open.
Heeled black ankle boots (not stilettos), understated make up, low chignon or loose hair

TheYearOfSmallThings · 22/05/2023 11:34

If you go to the Ivy on West Street you will see an embarrassing amount of it. Seems to attract them for some reason.

What??!!! Please ignore this comment op. You will NOT look anything of the sort. Wear the dress with confidence and have a lovely evening x
