What accessories can I add to make this more interesting and more sophisticated? I was thinking a nice jumper over the the shoulders? But what colour? And what shoes? Ahhhh
It's for a v posh restaurant dinner and drinks

Beautiful dress op if you're young and slim, I frequent quite a lot of high end restaurants and people wear all sorts, it will look beautiful, nude shoes and probably a blazer, or just a leather jacket. I've been to a 3 Michelin star restaurant and people were in there in summery maxi dresses which I would not class as appropriate attire for that sort of place!

pottytrainingggg · 22/05/2023 13:13

@NatashaDancing what do you mean by "MN approved blazers"? Perhaps you are mistakenly thinking workwear. FYI Oversized blazers are very current and the perfect on trend layer for this outfit.

I think it's lovely but only if you can rock the cut. Understated jewellery, an elegant hair updo, beautifully manicured nails and makeup, drop dead clutch bag, wrap and heels . Feel and look a million dollars 🙂

As quoted above I think you will be fine but ….

Instead of a jumper, a jumper (?) NO! just carry a wrap or pashmina in case air conditioning makes the restaurant chilly.
IF you have a body like the model you will be stunning. Lucky you. You’ll attract lots of attention for sure.

If you have any lumps, bumps or a podgy belly, you may wish to reconsider.

Have a good time whatever you wear.

Doggolover2 · 22/05/2023 13:18

@pottytrainingggg I know but they are just a hard no from me.

I would just wear flat sandals if my only option was a kitten heel sorry.

BBNoM · 22/05/2023 13:18

The slit is way too high and wide for it to be sophisticated. Ever. Have you seen the review with the photo? You can practically see her knickers! That will never be a classy look 🙄

I'm also laughing here that some believe those who think it's tacky are jealous 😂. I had a perfect figure when I was younger and I would never have worn a slit like that. Minus the slit it's passable.

SomersetDreams · 22/05/2023 13:23

Add a colourful tie!

Iafontaine · 22/05/2023 13:24

I'm a short hair/trouser suit wearing woman but really life's short enough, if you feel good in it wear it and enjoy it.

CharlotteRumpling · 22/05/2023 13:24

Omg my DD wears dresses like this and people think she is a prostitute? She is v slim and not busty either.

Stravaig · 22/05/2023 13:26

OP asked for help in looking interesting and sophisticated, not blatantly sexy and freely available.

@aNewYorkerInLondon is spot on with the comparable black dress - it is more subtle and demure, and consequently allows space for intrigue and imagination.

CharlotteRumpling · 22/05/2023 13:29

Freely available. Heh.

I like the leather or even denim jacket idea better than a blazer.

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 22/05/2023 13:30

Gold jewellery I think looks stunning with white/ cream. I’d do largish earrings and then strappy sandals and clutch.

I think body type makes a big diff to how this dress looks, like someone previous said small chested will be totally diff look to bursting out of it.

CharlotteRumpling · 22/05/2023 13:31

Also OP, you are a sport. I think wearing your hair up or in a sleek ponytail might add sophistication.

NatashaDancing · 22/05/2023 13:31

No I'm thinking of the MN panacea for everything - put a "blazer" on.

I don't care how "on trend" the "blazers" in that link are- they're mostly awful. I particularly don't like the "oops I forgot to put anything under my blazer" look.

verdantverdure · 22/05/2023 13:34

That's the dress equivalent of those light coloured skin tight leggings and crop tops teenagers wear so I don't think sophisticated is what you're going for here OP.

That dress is not designed to look sophisticated.

It's designed to show off young firm flesh.

And you can't make that look sophisticated.

Clarinet1 · 22/05/2023 13:35

I think the dress is fine for the occasion and circumstances described and for the figure and looks the OP says she has. In terms of styling, which is what the OP asks about, I think the whole point of the dress is the neckline, slit and back so, unless you need something for warmth getting around in which case a blazer or a wrap would work and you can take them off at the venues, I would say some kind of statement choker-length necklace and earrings and a bag and shoes, probably matching, in more or less any colour would be all you’d need.

NatashaDancing · 22/05/2023 13:35

Perhaps you are mistakenly thinking work wear

Actually some of them in that link look as if the company store cupboard was out of stock of the right size and handed out what there was left.

The dress would look better outdoors with a loose fitting, short or long, mackintosh style coat and inside, with no cover up.

Coinicon · 22/05/2023 13:36

I think it’s the slit, the top half is just long sleeves so hardly super inappropriate but maybe a bit plain, so some delicate gold jewellery would be nice. I’d just take a long-strap bag to kind of hide the highness of the slit

Dutchesss · 22/05/2023 13:45

I get to go to a lot of fancy restaurants through work and honestly, about 20% of the clientele wears this kind of stuff with strappy sandals and a blazer and a tiny bag and enormous hair and lips and stands in the doorway / window / against a wall display with a hand on hip looking down in a very 21 year old Instagram influencer way.

the people saying that it’s club wear and suggesting frumpy alternatives from boden - that’s not really the look that OP is going for

Agree with this, it's a lovely dress for a slim figure and it won't look out of place at all. The slit is fine.

TheBucketWoman · 22/05/2023 13:45

You could make it more sophisticated by wearing a more sophisticated dress over the top of it.

Feelingsurreal · 22/05/2023 13:48

I'm not sure that it is sophisticated, but with the right figure I think you'll look just gorgeous.

Re accessories, I think 'less is more' so don't overkill. Was it Coco Chanel who said to put on everything you think looks good, and then before leaving the house, remove one thing. It always looks better.

Let your figure do the talking and keep it simple. Have a lovely time!

I'm pretty sure my nipples would rest right on that neckline

Omg my DD wears dresses like this and people think she is a prostitute? She is v slim and not busty either.

No, people are becoming bizarrely hysterical and missing the point entirely. It is all about the right clothes for the setting.

I think a dress like this would be fabulous with gold jewelry and beautiful sandals at a beach party, for example.

That is entirely different from dinner at someplace like Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester. (OP did not mention the specific restaurant, only that it was very nice.)

I sometimes forget how sensitive people are on this app. Thankfully, OP appears to be rational and happy to take on board the advice that she requested, try the bits she likes and forget the bits she doesn’t.

Sunnydays0101 · 22/05/2023 13:59

A lot of comments on the dress go from one extreme to the other. There can be a happy medium.

Part of style/fashion is dressing appropriately for the occasion. The OP asked how can the dress be made more interesting and sophisticated - it’s interesting enough as it is. Nothing could make it sophisticated.

There are better choices for a meet the family in a nice restaurant type dinner. The height and style of the slit is what makes it unsuitable. There is no fold over to the slit, just a clubbing type slit iykwim. For a night out with friends in a pub/club - perfectly fine. My first thought when I saw the dress was the length/style of sleeve and cuff - a nuisance style to wear when eating.

Wearing an oversize blazer with it would be perfectly fine for going to/from restaurant but you’re probably not going to eat while wearing a blazer.

duchessofginlane · 22/05/2023 14:02

stroppy heels

Definitely wear these!

Good foundation wear (or nothing?) required when wearing a figure hugging dress. Nice shoes and bag, contrast wrap/pashmina if it gets cold but might be too weddingy. Fab hairdo and make up and you'll look great.

Stravaig · 22/05/2023 14:11

An aside, but I think there's a whole generation who think 'looking good' means porn set sexy at all times, instead of being appropriately dressed for the context you're in and the impression you wish to convey.
