Which dress for ‘posh’ do?

LivesInPyjamas · 14/05/2023 22:08

Do any of these work for a ‘posh’ do? Not black tie, I’ve been told ‘wedding type attire’.

I’ve lost my sense of style since gaining a lot of weight (although have lost a couple of stone in the last few months) plus approaching 40 so not sure any of these suit me?

Apologies for the bad photos, I will be wearing better underwear on the day 😆 All the dresses are just below knee length. I’m not used to wearing patterns so unsure of the flowery one. My favourite is the navy dress but it’s too short in the body and arms unfortunately. Think maybe the khaki dress is too casual? The event is Wednesday so will have to dash to the shops tomorrow if none work. What do you think?

well done on the weight loss 👏
you look great

personally I would go for the navy one with W statement necklace ! Have a good time

ThatFraggle · 14/05/2023 22:09

The dark blue is very nice. It fits your figure well, and looks well tailored.

AssertiveGertrude · 14/05/2023 22:10

Oh sorry I see you said it’s too short ! It’s not noticeable if that helps and you feel good in it

Thelondonone · 14/05/2023 22:10

I don’t think any of them are posh enough, they are the type of thing I wear to work in a fairly dressed down school.the plain navy one is fine but you need an uplifting bra underneath. I’m sure it will be fine.

Beeswood · 14/05/2023 22:11

I like the navy dress.

sevenbyseven · 14/05/2023 22:11

I like the floral one the best, it looks a really good fit 🙂

Throughalookingglass · 14/05/2023 22:12

The khaki one suits your figure but I'm not sure if its 'wedding attire' tbh.
Unless you wear your hair up (professionally done), add some costume jewellery and statement shoes perhaps? Add nice make up and manicured hands and I think you could wear it.

Agreed. It doesn't look too short in the arms or body.

Bigminnie1 · 14/05/2023 22:13

The khaki one looks lovely on you. You could dress it up with jewellery and shoes.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/05/2023 22:14

The flowery one looks nicest on your figure imo but it just looks like an everyday dress. don’t like the black one, and not loving the neckline/fit on the navy - can you try it with a different bra?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/05/2023 22:15

Oh is it khaki? Still not a fan, sorry.

gogohmm · 14/05/2023 22:18

The floral one is nicest but none are really posh. Structured is better for cheaper "posh" dresses

Qbish · 14/05/2023 22:20

The navy one, with a decent bra and a contrasting necklace.

HeartOrHeadDecision · 14/05/2023 22:21

The floral one looks gorgeous on you!
The others don't fit.

FfeminyddCymraeg · 14/05/2023 22:23

The navy one with a much better bra. Pick up a statement necklace to jazz it up a bit.

The floral one doesn’t meet the brief and tbh, I would wear that kind of print to work.

I also like the floral one , it fits lovely even if you have bad underwear on I don't think the navy ones do anything for you..

itsmylife7 · 14/05/2023 22:26

If I have to choose I'd say the floral one looks the best.

jackstini · 14/05/2023 22:27

Well done on the weight loss - you look fabulous. Great hair too!

The flowery one is the best but honestly none of them really look 'posh do' or 'wedding attire'

Can you get to the shops tomorrow and find something that really shows off your new figure?

Cinnamonandcoal · 14/05/2023 22:29

Floral one looks the best I think. Navy one is ok but needs a different bra.
I agree with others that they are all maybe more smartish work dresses than anything more formal.

LivesInPyjamas · 14/05/2023 22:39

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the help! I ordered all these online and they’re not as ‘smart’ as I’d hoped in the flesh. I think the navy one is closest to the brief but I’m just not sure of the fit. The stitching sits on my bust unless I really pull it down.

It’s interesting a few have mentioned work attire - whenever friends or family have looked through my wardrobe to borrow anything, all have said my clothes are what they’d wear to work. I live in pyjamas or jeans and a T-shirt so any dress feels dressed up to me. I think my style is quite plain which is why I’m struggling a bit with all the patterns that seem to be in (although I love pattern, I just don’t ever wear it).

Sorry OP but I don’t think the navy one fits you at all. It squished your boobs and there’s a big seam in the wrong place. The khaki one could possibly be dressed up with jewellery and the right shoes but it isn’t great. The floral one is fine for going to work. None of them are posh dresses.

Cinnamonandcoal · 14/05/2023 23:22

Different jobs I guess. Mine is quite corporate so I wear smart dresses everyday and would probably go for something satiny or floaty for a wedding. If you've ordered them online then I'd send them back and try again if you have time.

Cinnamonandcoal · 14/05/2023 23:23

Your figure looks great so if I were you I'd try to find something which shows it better!

TizerorFizz · 14/05/2023 23:26

@LivesInPyjamas These are all M&S website. I think all would look great with the right accessories.
