Sometimes I feel like crap because I can't afford salon prices

I realise it's first world problems in comparison to the cost of living crisis currently, but there are times I feel crap about the fact I can't afford beauty treatments and stuff like fillers and botox when so many people I know are having it done. I take excellent care of my skin and body at home but sometimes just kinda wish i could afford the more popular treatments that everyone raves about . I realise I'm probably just being silly and it's a case of fomo, but does anyone else relate and what are some of the things you do to feel good about yourself?

I don't think anyone is being catty, but we are all entitled to our opinions aren't we?

^^ up and down this thread people have said how awful they think fillers are as their opinion. But god forbid someone say those without Botox or fillers could look better...

I think that's the point though: most people are saying that they think everyone looks better without botox and fillers.

defi · 12/05/2023 23:54

^ meanwhile I think plenty of people would look better with some work. Is that opinion not valid? If those women look like boiled eggs then do women without look like soured aged potatoes?

PolkadotZebrasAndStripyGiraffes · 12/05/2023 23:59

You're entitled to any opinion you like. Nobody's told you that you can't think that, they have simply disagreed with you, and that's ok.

Botox and fillers look awful. You are not missing out!!

You can't say that about everyone in the world who has them 🙄

Maybe we do! Absolutely valid opinion. If we had asked for opinions on what we looked like by posting pix.

PolkadotZebrasAndStripyGiraffes · 13/05/2023 00:02

It was a generalisation of course, as most opinions are. If you say you don't like ballet or horror films, do you have to have seen every ballet performance ever or every horror film every made to make that judgement?

But no, I have never seen somebody who has had filler or botox on whom it looks good, in my opinion. Other people may think it looks great. That's life.

CharlotteRumpling · 12/05/2023 20:03

I thought Emma Thompson looked great at the Coronation. I don't think she has had work done. ( Could be wrong though as most in the glamour industry have).

Actually I don't think most people outside the glamour industry have it done. It's just the beauty industry that is trying to convince us that getting Botox is like getting a haircut.

as you said - you don't think she has but you could be wrong...... yup says it all.

PolkadotZebrasAndStripyGiraffes · 13/05/2023 00:04

If you think all adult women without stuff injected into their faces look worse than those who have injected things into their faces then of course you're completely entitled to that view as well, despite the fact that personally I find that very odd.

Maybe they use technicians who have had a 4 hour training afternoon as opposed to a doc who really knows facial muscles. Who knows. Too many unqualified people doing it and by unqualified I mean these courses.

I have seen women who look like shit due to too many fillers in particular. I know many more who get it though who you wouldn't know as they are not frozen or swollen to extreme.

PolkadotZebrasAndStripyGiraffes · 13/05/2023 00:08

Yes that does seem mad, to let someone with no medical qualification inject your face with stuff! Very unlikely to end well. 😶

Thisiscrazyshite · 13/05/2023 00:09

Can relate somewhat. Not in relation to Botox or fillers but friends of mine can afford a more luxurious lifestyle and weekends away spontaneously etc. At times I envy that financial freedom but most of time I’m ok with it. We’re all different and that’s just life.
It’s human nature to want what your friends have but it takes maturity to accept these differences.…. sometimes I’m not that mature myself!

PolkadotZebrasAndStripyGiraffes · 13/05/2023 00:13

You can still tell, though. It's that weird slightly alien look, something strained and odd. Same as with the odd eyebrow thing where they are so straight and emphasised that they unbalance the whole face and it's hard to look at the face as a whole because the eyebrows are so distracting. It is a shame because many of these women would be very attractive if they didn't do this. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder and everyone likes different things. They obviously think it looks nice or they wouldn't do it.

If you want to hide the evidence of your loving, laughing and living, The evidence of your hurt and pain and healing , that's sad

^ I'm Just pointing out the hypocrisy. Plenty of generalisations on this thread about those with fillers and some very bitchy comments. Seems odd they know every woman would look better without.

PolkadotZebrasAndStripyGiraffes · 13/05/2023 09:17

I don't think it's "bitchy", the OP doesn't have them and people are telling her she must look better for that! That's not unkind. Also "bitchy" is a really misogynistic word.

YouNeverSeeTheRealMe · 13/05/2023 09:18

CharlotteRumpling · 12/05/2023 18:39

There are so many things I want to say in response to this. Where to begin?

Exactly. Many of us are struggling to pay bills and buy groceries

gogohmm · 13/05/2023 09:23

Firstly no one needs Botox or fillers for beauty purposes (Botox has medical uses, that's different).

Secondly look for a college if further education with a beauty department, you can get basic treatments far lower than salons, if you are lucky they will also have a catering department and you can get top restaurant quality food for fast food prices. I used to get waxing, facial and a massage for under £20 pre covid (I've moved) then a 3 course dinner for £10, glass of wine was £2!

CharlotteRumpling · 13/05/2023 09:24

No, that's not what I meant. She can do what she wants with her own money even if people are struggling. This is S and B, after all.

I just don't think she would look better with them, as I have made amply clear. And I wanted to say that not everyone who can afford them has them.

defi · 13/05/2023 09:24

Come on now, people are calling those ladies boiled eggs and laughing along. This topic always brings out the claws. Fair enough some people don't like them, same way I'd hate to walk around with no Botox or fillers. Bitchy seems the most fitting, people are saying what I assume they wouldn't say to people in real. what's misogynistic is telling women they look awful because they don't conform to your own beauty standards. Whether that's accepting or rejecting fillers.

gogohmm · 13/05/2023 09:32

@Hbh17

Mine neither but I live in an area where walking shoes and waterproof jackets are the height of chic, I work in a shop one day a week and makeup is a rarity. In the pub some youngsters have lashes and eyebrows done plus wear makeup but I doubt they have fillers

As am I. I never suggested I hadn't real worries, just that this was something playing on my mind

Botox and fillers look horrible, despite people saying theirs is done well. You always look your age, with fillers and Botox. Nothing wrong with looking your age not all pumped up and taut.

Of course I wouldn't tell anyone in real life they looked bad with fillers.

But if you post anon pix of Botoxed young women on an anon forum and ask people's opinions of this awful trend, you are going to get them.

Just like people on here were discussing the look of women on The Apprentice these days. Nothing misogynistic about it. What is misogynistic is that the women candidates are expected to look like that while the male candidates look normal.

RudsyFarmer · 13/05/2023 09:58

I could afford to get them done but I’ve decided I’d much rather pay for my children’s extra curricular activities and more recently his tutoring that may extend to years, not months.

It’s down to priorities. For some people their aesthetic is everything. They can chase anti ageing treatments as far down the road as they want but one day you wake up, look at your hands and realise there’s not a damn thing you can do about it. So do what you can afford and try to accept the rest. This stuff honestly becomes less crazy once you get past menopause. I think younger people have more propensity to pay to stay looking in their twenties but around 48, once your eyesight goes, you realise your health is honestly more important.
