Sometimes I feel like crap because I can't afford salon prices

I realise it's first world problems in comparison to the cost of living crisis currently, but there are times I feel crap about the fact I can't afford beauty treatments and stuff like fillers and botox when so many people I know are having it done. I take excellent care of my skin and body at home but sometimes just kinda wish i could afford the more popular treatments that everyone raves about . I realise I'm probably just being silly and it's a case of fomo, but does anyone else relate and what are some of the things you do to feel good about yourself?

i always feel a bit disappointed about how quickly other women are prepared to criticise another woman’s looks or choices.

Fundamentally I don’t want to be judged as ugly, tacky, a hard boiled egg etc. I know not everyone will think I’m the most beautiful person in the room, but I’d hope not to be openly critiqued as ugly. Once you do decide that it’s how you’re going to ‘rank’ women then it fuels the industry of wanting to enhance or change your appearance.

Everyone will perceive beauty/ugly in their own way, but does it need to be voiced? Who does it actually benefit if I say big noses are the epitome of ugly? Or dark hair, very slender bodies, blondes.

Do what makes you happy, be secure in yourself and your choices. Dimming another’s light doesn’t make you shine any brighter.

CharlotteRumpling · 12/05/2023 19:29

Sorry but you put those photos and asked what we thought of them. That's what I think of the Botoxed look. Were we supposed to lie?

No doubt people think I am wrinkly and saggy. Fine by me. Not going to post any pix asking for your opinion though!

BranchGold · 12/05/2023 19:33

It was primarily to comment on the lashes, as the previous poster said lashes, nails and brows look tacky and ugly. I know those women to be customers of a lash technician who does lash extensions that I wouldn’t consider to be the look that some people consider to be overly done or obvious.

I agree with you tbh @BranchGold, there are lashes and lashes. The latter are the ones favoured by teenagers where I live and they just look uncomfortable. I've had lash extensions in the past and they can be awfully irritating and they just will not come off.

CharlotteRumpling · 12/05/2023 19:39

I dont like lash extensions either, sorry. That's not dimming anyones light. Just my personal opinion. Which can be voiced since you asked!
Just as I don't like recycled polyester clothes while some do.

WhatWeDoInTheShadow · 12/05/2023 19:40

Sorry - bit of an unhelpful derail 😬

But it's difficult when people get all bosom hoiky about women wanting to do anything other than a splash of ice water and a slick of tinted moisturiser or whatever, which some posts on this thread are veering towards

Am not a massive fan of Murphy, but really warmed to her after this. It takes far more courage, not to mention strength of mind, to not do as the crowd are doing.

Neither Naomi Watts or Andie MacDowell have had work done. I think both look much better than many who have.

bobbysock · 12/05/2023 19:55

Botox and fillers will soon be like the new swank & collarbone tattoos.

YouJustDoYou · 12/05/2023 19:59

botox and fillers make women look awful, AWFUL. Fake looking ugly robots. Women looks honestly so much bteter as they are, all this plastic stuff never, ever, once, ever, looked great on anyone.

CharlotteRumpling · 12/05/2023 20:03

I thought Emma Thompson looked great at the Coronation. I don't think she has had work done. ( Could be wrong though as most in the glamour industry have).

Actually I don't think most people outside the glamour industry have it done. It's just the beauty industry that is trying to convince us that getting Botox is like getting a haircut.

Putple · 12/05/2023 20:04

I'm 36 and would love some Botox.
I have a large forehead and I think wrinkles just makes it look even bigger. I don't know, I look terrible!
I see people with lines on their forehead etc but I don't think they look bad. Just myself!

I sympathise OP.

BranchGold · 12/05/2023 19:09

@PolkadotZebrasAndStripyGiraffes Can I ask, do you consider these images to look tacky and ugly?

All of the women are groomed with lash extensions, brows and some Botox etc.

Are they unfiltered?

tikkanaan · 12/05/2023 20:08

CharlotteRumpling · 12/05/2023 19:11

Personally, I think they look like identical hardboiled eggs. And they are all so young!

I hate this look.

They don't look identical or like eggs

What happened to "YouJustDoYou" 😄

SimonsCow · 12/05/2023 20:12

Having your nails brows and eyelashes done is ugly and tacky? Wow. This is why OP feels insecure and women just can’t win whatever they do. Other women are judging them for their appearance.

I know. It's horrible.

CharlotteRumpling · 12/05/2023 20:15

OP mentioned Botox and fillers. Not the rest.

Westiegirl3 · 12/05/2023 20:15

I can afford Botox and fillers in fact my Sister in law has a business doing them, I'd get them done fairly cheap but I will never have them... they mainly look awful.

ICMB · 12/05/2023 20:23

Work on your confidence/mental health I would say. Fillers etc are toxic to society (just my feminist opinion of course) and your reason for wanting them seems to be just ‘because others have it’. I’m very insecure so I think I can relate a bit, it starts from within ( am no expert of course)
I feel similar when I want a haircut and they tell me it’s £60 ☹️

LightlySearedontheRealityGrill · 12/05/2023 20:24

You only notice Botox & fillers when they're done badly. Done well it's very hard to tell. But that involves going to a doctor who understands bone structure, layers of skin & dermis, fat, what should go where, nerve placement etc. and that is very very expensive. Most people can't afford it.

See Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox can afford the best, and I still think they looked better before.

defi · 12/05/2023 20:28

This topic really brings out the cattiness. My fillers/Botox last around 9/10months so luckily. If it's something you really want op could save for them? I'm not flush but they make the world of difference and are worth it to me

CharlotteRumpling · 12/05/2023 20:29

And Courtney must agree because she has has all her filler dissolved.
