"In" Trainers

On the back of the dress with trainers thread, what trainers are "in" at the moment? I've never had a branded trainer (supermarket own brand for me!😁) but would quite like a good, comy pair to wear that would go with anything. Any suggestions please, up to about £100?

Ugh I can’t bear new balance. AF1s are almost unbeatable IMO, for comfort as well as style. I do like classic stans though and find them very comfortable. Veja are NOT. Wrecked my feet.

SeanMean · 14/05/2023 08:37

I love Onitsuka Tigers, so comfortable!

indigovapour · 14/05/2023 08:39

NB 574s are nice if you want to avoid the ubiquitous 327s. On Clouds are pretty common around here - they look comfy but aren't that attractive in my opinion.

If you can get your hands on them there are some really nice gum sole SB dunks that Nike release periodically in white, black and grey.

My favourite pair of trainers ever were onitsuka tigers - they're a good shout.

hettiethehare · 14/05/2023 08:41

I love my 327s, but they are everywhere! I've barely worn mine as well as I went for a pale style and it's pretty much not stopped raining since I bought them.

Lemursandions · 14/05/2023 08:46

@SeanMean oh my I love those onitsuko trainers! Can I ask what the fit is like?

QuintanaRoo · 14/05/2023 09:07

Adidas samba
nike Dunks.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 14/05/2023 09:20

I have no idea what's fashionable, so it's almost definitely not these, but I am eyeing up a pair of Golas next.

Vogue has said that retro trainers will be all the rage this year, gola, Stan smiths and gazelles.

I own gazelles. Go me!

Wearing them today now to be on point 😂

LooseFit · 14/05/2023 09:28

I wore Gazelles and Stan Smiths in my youth. I just can’t return to them and they’re not that comfortable anyway.

Also wore AF1s in the late 90s/early 2000s, and they’re SO heavy. I want something lighter and non-sweaty for summer.

I commute on the tube everyday and maybe 1/5 people are wearing NB 327, so they are definitely the most popular brand, but I wouldn’t say cool at all.

My search continues!

yoga4meinthemorning · 14/05/2023 09:44

I have gazelles I can't wear because the plastic tongue turns up on itself and digs into me just down from where my toes meet my foot.

missfliss · 14/05/2023 10:18

Oh no! Hope I haven't ! Should include buyer protection though

frankgu · 14/05/2023 10:21

I can't wear AF1s as I lived in them as a teen as did everyone else I know & my mum has worn them for yrs. It's funny about not wanting to revisit the same shoes, it's why I won't wear dunk los but I have bought some gazelles as I preferred superstars when younger. The only Nikes I repeat are air max 90s.

MorrisZapp · 14/05/2023 10:44

I love the look of trainers but I've given up buying online because the sizing is random and so many of them are weirdly uncomfortable.

Where do people go to try trainers in real life? Is it places like Foot Locker or that shop Size?

Jakadaal · 14/05/2023 10:50

I love Moda in Pelle for trainer style shoes. They are fashion trainers but good quality, comfortable and often have good discounts.

I bought into the Russell & Bromley wedge trainers but big mistake (and waste of money!)

missfliss · 14/05/2023 13:36

@BiffChipsandKippers thanks so much for the warning. I think it was a scam - cancelled and got refund.
Actually ordered some new ones from ASOS with discount - went for 5740s in the end

I recently bought New Balance 327 with a navy N. They go with most outfits including wide legged trousers

FiddleLeaf · 14/05/2023 13:41

Oh and I’ve had my vegan Stan Smith’s for 4 years and they are still in great condition. Really comfy.

I agree Moda in Pelle trainers are lovely and very comfortable. Don't buy full price though as they have very frequent sales.

My one and only pair of R&B trainers (not wedges) are gloriously comfortable.

BiffChipsandKippers · 14/05/2023 22:11

@missfliss I'm so glad, I was tempted myself but on further browsing it just looked really suspect!

bananamum13 · 14/05/2023 22:16

Nike air 90s are my staple

YourFault · 14/05/2023 22:28

You don’t want these bricks. You want Jordan 1 or 4s

Findyourneutralspace · 14/05/2023 22:30

I love my Stan Smiths for a ‘go with everything’ pair and my Puma Mayze for something fancier.
