Does anyone like this style and would like to share outfit choices here?

I love this style and follow so many accounts on insta for inspiration but haven’t been brave enough to take the plunge and actually start dressing like it. Do you wear vintage every day?

No tbh as I'm kind of the same as you 🙈😂 I've bought a couple of things from Seamstress of Bloomsbury and House or Foxy which are like a nod to that style rather than going all out!

Oh I love that era of fashion! And 50s!
I have a few dresses from Hell Bunny which is probably more 40s/50s style but still not overly 40s/50s if you see what I mean and i normally wear them with my DMs too. Like you both, I'm not brave enough to go all out as beautiful as it would look!

I LOVE House of Foxy. :)

I haven’t bought anything from house of foxy but some of the pieces are lovely. The women I follow on Instagram wear a lot of authentic vintage clothing from the 30s and 40s and they look incredible.

I’d love to go to a 40s weekend as well, they look so much fun.

I adore this style but I feel like I'm dressed for a fancy dress party if I ever wear it. It's just too full on and formal for me. I do lust after Seamstress of Bloomsbury dresses though.

I love this style too. Although I also live in jeans and hoddies I think the loss of that more formal look is a shame. DD and I were in London last weekend at the trainstation and there was a man buying tickets and with his hat/coat/suit could have easily stepped out of the 50s.

I tend to wear tea dresses with coloured brogues which is sort of a nod to that style but otherwise I'd feel dressed in fancy dress.

Love vintage fashion! I love imagining what the clothes have experienced before I get them. What the person who owned them before was like etc. Plus I’ve always overdressed my entire life (a trait inherited from my Gran!).

I mostly wear 60s/70s day to day (as it’s easier to take care of) but have some lovely 40s/50s evening wear for special occasions. I mostly buy my vintage off Etsy (I get shy going into actual shops) as I’ve got difficult measurements for vintage clothes (and to be fair, modern clothes) so I can take my time looking through measurements etc.

I also like mixing it in with modern stuff rather than doing head to toe which helps it be less costumey. I wore a modern leopard print maxi/slouchy cashmere jumper with a cropped 1960s swing fake fur jacket out for drinks last week. Or a 1940s party dress with modern cowboy boots for a gig. Vintage costume jewellery is also an easy and cheap way to incorporate vintage fashion. There’s an antique shop near me that has piles of brooches for about 2 quid each. Or in terms of modern brands I like nancy mac for 1930/40s tea-dresses, Deadly is the female (although I’m not too into the rockabilly look, I don’t wear enough make up etc to pull it off), seamstress of Bloomsbury (although I have trouble with fit so need to get it altered etc).

Love Seamstress of Bloomsbury blouses! Although some sizes and colours seem to sell out quickly.

I have several genuine 1940s suits. None of the skirts fit any more but I wear the jackets with jeans.

I have a 60s suit that worn together is a bit too Maggie Thatcher but do similar with the jackets (and wear the skirt with a black jumper and boots).

I love the 1940,s look , “ the vintage tourists “ are a good intracranial account to follow . However day to day I tend to wear vintage inspired dresses rather than a full vintage look , as I don’t want to look like I’ve stepped out of a costume drama !

I have several outfits from House of Foxy which I wear at the Goodwood Revival. I have tea dresses also particularly like the wide leg high waisted trousers look with a striped top.

I love Stop Staring! It’s an American brand, stocked by some UK retailers and boutique shops https://stopstaring.com/ . I found the brand first in a boutique shop in Fowey.

To be fair, even if the skirts still fitted, I'm not sure I'd wear them now. They're a boxy shape (no lycra) upper calf length which I'm not fond of, and very plain because of WW2 restrictions. But I love the jackets and they're beautifully made. They don't scream 'vintage' so I normally get people asking, 'Where did you get your jacket' rather than, 'Is that 1940s?'

Pickled vintage has some beautiful pieces, although some are quite expensive and it’s based in the US. I was determined this gorgeous dress was going to be my first vintage buy but it was sold as soon as it was listed!

Just out of interest where did you get them from? I feel like women’s suits are something I don’t stumble along often (though it’s probably my algorithms…).

Vintage Dancer has lots of interesting details about fabrics, prints etc and gives ideas for how to put outfits together, I think it is an American site but I found loads of ideas on there. I went to Haworth 40s weekend last year and put together an outfit from clothes I already had or that I had found in charity shops. Some 80s clothing can be a fairly good match for 40s styles, the blouse I wore was 80s/early 90s but not too bad for a 40s look I thought. My main problem for the 40s look is my hair as I have very short hair so no possibility of pincurls, waves etc, but I found a scarf-tying tutorial on YouTube and gave myself a knotted turban style for the Haworth trip

Loving all your replies and I'm going to check out the links etc posted.

@TheDogsMother I'd love to go to Goodwood sometime! So jealous.

I've got these trousers from House of Foxy in rust and hoping to get the navy ones as well. Wide legged trousers seem to be "in" so I like that I can wear them without being too out there.

I went to a vintage fayre last weekend and apart from the people on the stalls there was only 1 couple who were younger wearing all out 40s outfit. They stuck out but looked really good.

@mrssmiling I found this with the navy polka dot jumpsuit! But I have finally got one of them and one in red polka 😇
