Frumpy or fab?

Just that really. I'm 44, no clue when it comes to fashion. I like these and think they're on trend. Don't want to make a costly mistake and end up look like a middle aged frump (even though I am one!) What do you reckon?

I hate to say it, as I’m a frumpy middle aged woman too, but these could easily look frumpy, or look cool. It depends what you wear them with and how you carry the outfit off.

Plethoraofwoo · 01/05/2023 18:27

They probably are on trend, but I just see this- sorry.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 01/05/2023 18:30

At first glance not too bad but the heel makes it look frumpy I'm afraid.

mynameiscalypso · 01/05/2023 18:30

I think you have to have quite tall and skinny legs to properly pull them off otherwise that ankle strap is just going to got across your foot/leg at totally the wrong place.

SiobhanSharpe · 01/05/2023 18:32

They're not too bad -- I'vee seen worse, anyway. I think it would depend on how they look when you're wearing them, if they suit your feet, and what you wear them with.
i think they look as if they'd go with jeans, crops or longish shorts more than dresses. But that's just me.

mintbiscuit · 01/05/2023 18:32

A no from me.

Kittykatchunjy · 01/05/2023 18:32

Sorry they're just dreadful and I'm in my 50's

Doggymummar · 01/05/2023 18:33

Well they ARE HUSH PUPPIES SORRY FOR THE CAPS SEENS TO BE STUCK

QCKC · 01/05/2023 18:33

Bloody awful

mewkins · 01/05/2023 18:34

I've been looking at these 😁. I like comfy sandals though and can't stand toe posts.

mewkins · 01/05/2023 18:35

Actually I've been looking at a birkenstock equivalent that are almost the same.

Bookworm333 · 01/05/2023 18:35

Not my cup of tea but if you like them and they are comfortable - buy them! Most people aren't remotely interested in fashion, and even the ones that are won't like the same things - can't please everyone so just buy what you like! Erm, except maybe don't wear them with socks....

McSlowburn · 01/05/2023 18:37

I think it would be virtually impossible to make those shoes look fashionable - they scream 'comfortable walking shoe to me'.

Tan leather sandals need to be a bit more delicate to look on trend, like these ones:

Frumpy or fab?
CindersAgain · 01/05/2023 18:38

Fashionable and comfortable, yes from me.

Guineasrule · 01/05/2023 18:38

No. Designed and built for comfort, not style.

McSlowburn · 01/05/2023 18:39

These Fitflop ones are built for comfort but look a lot more fashionable IMO:

Nothingbuttheglory · 01/05/2023 18:49

It's a tricky one because the big ugly clodhopper style of sandals are indeed fashionable atm. So you can wear ugly sandals and look on-trend (if the rest of your look is reasonably current) or you can wear pretty sandals and look dated. (Exception being the ultra-thin-strappy stiletto which seems to be coming back for nights out) Fwiw I'm not sure the Hush Puppies ones are clumpy enough to look fashionable, so that leaves you with the questions

  • how much do I want to look on-trend
  • do I like them
  • are they comfortable
All of which are your personal preference OP. <sorry not helpful>
mewkins · 01/05/2023 18:53

CuteCillian · 01/05/2023 18:38

These are less frumpy but equally comfy.

I'd just buy teva at a third of the cost. These are eye watering!

HolidaysAreComing2023 · 01/05/2023 18:58

I’ve bought these, apparently I do nod to fashion but I also need comfort. I’ll be wearing these with rolled up jeans or shorts in the summer. I’ll have a linen or cotton oversized shirt on the top half.

Frumpy but you could get away with them perhaps if the rest of your clothes were a bit more exciting.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/05/2023 19:00

I don't love them. They might look better in black?

But as for whether they're 'frumpy' - no; they're just sandals. 'Frumpy' is just a label women on here use to make other women feel bad about themselves (or to make themselves feel bad about themselves).

Whether or not they look okay will depend what you wear them with - and I doubt anybody would notice them at all unless you wear them with socks and an anorak.

Dune has some that are similar but just look a bit more up to date.

QuintanaRoo · 01/05/2023 19:01

I like them and have similar in yellow.

my tiktok seems to be full of videos about trendy sandals, birckenstock Boston’s, a similar dr marten style in cream and then a similar Ugg one are all in……they’re all closed toe though so different to yours but similar clompiness.
