Which Dress? (Wedding Reception)

Hi all...
We have a wedding reception to attend in a couple of weeks. It's in a nice location and will be a smart occasion. I have bought two dresses...want to keep them both! Stuck with which to wear......
Navy one is my favourite...but is it too dark? Thinking of Navy accessories...with current weather think it's ok but perhaps not if we end up with a random heatwave!

Green one is cute but the navy one is more flattering....If I don't wear the green, I will keep it as I feel it's more versatile so I could dress it up/down and less likely to "waste" it... Plan to dress the green up with blush pink or nude accessories...

Only wear navy if you’re going to brighten it up a lot with accessories. Bright pink or orange for example. It’s a bit dark otherwise. Green is much better

If you love the navy one then get the navy one.

I bought them both....just not sure which to wear. Will defo keep the green regardless as it was a bargain but if I don't wear the navy to the wedding will prob return it as it's not something I'd wear often and it wasn't cheap.. have to decide quickly as I've been pondering for weeks...

Yeah that's my worry it looks bit too dark and serious! It's a mixed culture wedding so expect there will be lots of colour...guess I'm talking myself into the green..

Depends on your skin tone and figure! If you feel the navy is more flattering on you then I say trust yourself. The navy dress does look more refined in the photos. I agree about accessorising the navy with pink, a deep rose maybe?

I love green, and wear more green than any other colour, but certain fabrics and shades and complexions are not a good combination and that vibrant green lace looks especially tricky. So be very sure if you only keep that one.

I got a very similar dress (in royal bright blue) from Coast for a relatives wedding and then left it at home when packing! Yes I know but was getting train rather than driving! I then had to buy a cream floral 50s shape Coast dress on arrival but it was much more wedding type (in June!) and luckily I still had tags on so could return the blue dress for a refund!

The green is stunning and more wedding so I’d go for that one!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 28/04/2023 14:04

Now your only dilemma is what accessories to wear with the green dress! I’m sick so got brain fog!

Another vote for the green! Xx

Violetcrush · 28/04/2023 14:09

#teamgreen navy is nice too but too wintry for may

Mmmm so I'm a big 10/small 12 pear shape...so round hips/bum but petite on top. 5ft6. Brunette and Olive skin tone. I guess by flattering I mean the navy makes me feel more curvy...

I'm in navy next weekend for a wedding with a dark pink short sleeved cardi/top

Mini blondes also in navy with a lighter pink cardi

If it's an evening wedding, wear the navy. If daytime, the green.

We have a reception only invite as kids not allowed at ceremony. Starts 4pm...

It may hinge on the weather! If summery, green; if wintry, navy.
If you're tempted to keep both, can you choose (pink) accessories which will go with either? Then you can choose on the day, and be perfectly dressed, come rain or shine or snow or storm.

LookItsMeAgain · 28/04/2023 16:14

The navy is classic and so elegant. You can chop & change the accessories for it, from bright yellow, or orange or white or pink or classic pillar box red. A bolero jacket would be gorgeous.

I don't think that the green one lends itself to multiple wears whereas the navy does, and then price per wear comes right down.

whitesnowflake · 28/04/2023 17:14

I like the navy too. I've seen navy dresses worn with orange accessories recently which has looked good. Unfortunately orange doesn't suit me so I'd go with silver, hot pink or fuschia.

Snaaaaacks · 28/04/2023 17:21

I've worn a navy dress a couple of times at a wedding, one was lacy too, quite a few years ago though so might be a bit of a dated look? As other people suggested I teamed it with pale pink shoes/bag, I think I had a navy fascinator for one wedding and pinky at another. The green dress is probably more in now, it's nice but probably not a colour I'd personally wear. Assuming you like both I'd probably go green out of the two.

Snaaaaacks · 28/04/2023 17:23

Ahh just seen it's an evening thing, I'll change to the navy and no fascinator. Pale shoes/bag.

doitwithlove · 28/04/2023 17:51

Green looks lovely, its a very "in colour"

snowlady4 · 28/04/2023 17:57

I prefer the green one overall and I think its definitely more 'weddingy.' I can't imagine relaxing and having a dance wearing the navy one.
You could brighten the navy up with a bright hair accessory and scarf/wrap of course.
That said, you should wear what YOU feel better in- nobody really gives a shit about other wedding guests outfits- all too busy worrying about their own!
Hope you have a lovely day.

mathanxiety · 28/04/2023 18:07

I'd go with the navy dress in that case.

RobinaHood · 28/04/2023 18:08

Wear the navy but brighten it with coral accessories.

sagrose1998 · 28/04/2023 18:15

I'd go with the navy dress

LadyEloise1 · 28/04/2023 18:22

I was going to suggest you buy both because it is so rare to find nice clothing.
The are both lovely. Where is the green dress from ?

Sweetapplestrudel · 28/04/2023 18:24

Thanks everyone!!!! Green seems to be overall favourite for the occasion.

I think I've decided to treat myself and keep both dresses regardless as I love the navy and really don't want to return it...and green was a bargain and I'm sure I will find other occasions to wear it during Summer.

Will probably let the weather decide!!!...
May can be a bit dodgy and unpredictable so we could have a heatwave...or it could be cold and wet! I think I will feel a bit odd wearing the navy if it's really sunny and bright though. Whereas I could probably "get away with" the green regardless of the weather given it's seasonally appropriate.

Love the idea of pink/orange with the navy but only issue is the back of it has a gold exposed zip with a black trim so not sure that would work with pink....so might go for nude or gold accessories (clutch bag and stiletto sandals). No fascinator seeing as we're only reception guests...

I have some blush pink floral block heel sandals I've never worn which I think goes well with the green dress....and will probably team it with a blush pink clutch bag...

I like the navy better. It's just a nicer dress (imho). I think nude or pink accessories and gold jewellery?
