Hermes Bag?

Does anyone have a Hermes bag? How did you get it? I've only recently discovered you have to be offered an appointment to buy one!

I am so happy Birkins are not my style (I need a bag I can carry across my body or over my shoulder completely).
If the style was more practical and less old fashioned looking, I am sure I would be a total sucker, mug and/or desperado etc etc trying to get one!!!

I do have some sandals though, classic and well made.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 26/04/2023 18:21

Hermes do a few crossbody styles, the Birkin is just one of their many handbag types.

Lampzade · 26/04/2023 18:22

My dh bought me one from the Paris store. I haven’t used it. It is not the most attractive of bags tbh.
I am thinking of selling it .

Cherryana · 26/04/2023 18:30

I’ve got two.

I got given them from the lady where my Gil is the gardener of her estate. She used to get them made (so they are fake) and because of her wealth - everyone would assume they were real.

I feel a bit self conscious and like I might get robbed when I wear them, even though in reality they are not worth anything.

Cherryana · 26/04/2023 18:30

FIL not Gil

DyslexicPoster · 26/04/2023 18:41

£38,000 for a used one?! Yikes. Just had a Google. I'm guessing that's not the standard price point if you have to woo and jump through hoops for it?

MissLucyLiu · 26/04/2023 18:42

Did you add birkin to your wish list and what is it that’s in your wish list because it could be any other bag …

Then a Constance has huge investment value and it’s cross body

If would not purchase an item that I have to demonstrate my suitability to own and suck up to a shop assistant just for me to give her my money.

Do they do a home-check before they let you walk out with a bag?

TattiePants · 26/04/2023 19:08

We met a relative's girlfriend a couple of weeks ago and we knew prior to meeting her that she's very wealthy. I do like nice bags so had a discreet look as we were all leaving and spotted her Kelly. Way out of my league.

Why do people think you need to suck up to people? There are some strange ideas of what is required to purchase leather goods on here.

I think you just have to be genuine and not like you're going to resell it. It also seems a previous history is required in order to have a chance of getting a Birkin.

I thought to get a Birkin or a Kelly (not even sure what they are) you had to build a history with the brand, and a sales assistant and then have a wish list that included those and other bags then you get mysteriously invited to an appointment if you're lucky and they ask you some questions and then they present you with your bag. Is that not how it works? Why are people making this stuff up then!

I think the way they do it is great marketing because it creates this level of exclusivity but honestly I'm baffled that in this day and age so many people play their games of following their rules just to be 'allowed' to spend money with them.

The way it's phrased as being 'offered' a bag when actually you're just spending your own money on it is crazy 😂

Honestly even if I could afford one i wouldn't bother, or id just buy one on the retail market.

This isn't to say they're not nice bags as I do think theyre lovely!

Totally agree. Plenty of retailers offering excellent leather goods for better prices without playing silly games.

Not in my experience. I have made a few purchases and chat to the assistant I know, but there is certainly no sucking up to her and she is very helpful. I tell her the style, type of leather, hardware and colour i am looking for and she usually comes up with the goods after a short while. Never had an appt, or been vetted or been offered something i hadnt asked for. And Questions? What about?
However, all the apparent pretensions do all add to the mystery!

The Constance is probably my favourite Hermès bag, and and also their new style Geta - it's a proper crossbody bag.

Almost bought a Geta with my work Christmas bonus but decided to do the sensible thing and save the money. I am sorely tempted though.

I need more! What do you mean she notes your requests? Is this a formal process? Or do you have to drop subtle hints?

Good salespeople keep records of what their customers like and what they're looking for, so when something comes in that either matches the requirements or the SA thinks their client will want it, they just need to make a phone call to sell it.

viques · 26/04/2023 20:06

savoycabbage · 26/04/2023 17:48

I didn't know this was a thing! Now I'm completely fascinated.

So, you have to sort of woo the lady in the shop until she might allow you to buy one sort of bag of her choosing?

I would never hack it as a Hermes salesperson. I would be “Yeah, babe, we’ve got a whole stock room full. how many do you want?”

Then I would pocket the commission and smile. Who wants to spend their working day sucking up to sad people who think a handbag or a watch makes them a better/ more desirable person?

strawberryfluff · 26/04/2023 20:18

I found a video on YouTube and it made it sound like a lot of effort has to go into buying one!

You wouldn't be able to it seems - at least from the rabbit hole I've fallen through- the SAs get an allocation of bags to sell and there's like quotas of how many of these birkins and Kelly's each store can sell

OP posts:
WowIlikereallyhateyou · 26/04/2023 20:21

Strawberry, absolutely.
Stock is allocated, and it would be very rare for them to have items in stock.

sejalgupta · 13/10/2025 08:09

I don’t own a Hermès bag, but many people say you usually need to build a purchase history or get offered an appointment to buy one in-store.
If you don’t want to wait, you can also find Hermès bags on Ubuy.
