Hermes Bag?

Does anyone have a Hermes bag? How did you get it? I've only recently discovered you have to be offered an appointment to buy one!

Depending on where you live you may have to spend tens of thousands to be offered a Kelly or Birkin. In London you can submit a wish list.

treespouse · 26/04/2023 15:33

Yes usually you will need to build up a good relationship with your SA and have spent plenty on homeware, clothes, etc before you're offered one. However, I was once offered a Birkin in Selfridges from a nice SA who knew I didn't have much of a purchasing history at the time. Unfortunately it was an ugly two tone colour way and I didn't have the money for it anyway so I left empty handed Grin

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 26/04/2023 15:35

If you have a relationship with an Hermes salesperson, talk to them about this. Otherwise, you need to start buying things at Hermès and build a relationship with a salesperson. Once you are a regular customer, you will then enable you to buy the more coveted handbags. If you are friendly with anyone who shops at Hermès and has a relationship with a salesperson, ask to be introduced or at least the name of their SA and then start shopping with them.

Birkins and Kelly bags aside, Hermès do other handbags which can be purchased straight off the shop floor.

dietcokelime · 26/04/2023 15:38

Paris is your best bet to get a bag without a purchasing history - if you get a leather appointment, speak to your SA and say exactly what you're after / what you like and don't like, they might offer you a traditional "wish list" bag (Birkin / Kelly etc) or you can be offered other bags that although still Hermes aren't those two (Constance etc).

It's a tricky game to play, if you want something like a mini Kelly (resale is through the roof!) then you need a huge purchase history or to purchase from a re seller at a higher markup.

To get a custom bag, it's invite only. And if they don't like your design choices they'll just make it slightly different to what you wanted 😂

I'd heard of this having-to-be-approved business and think it's delightfully bonkers.

I think the way they do it is great marketing because it creates this level of exclusivity but honestly I'm baffled that in this day and age so many people play their games of following their rules just to be 'allowed' to spend money with them.

The way it's phrased as being 'offered' a bag when actually you're just spending your own money on it is crazy 😂

Honestly even if I could afford one i wouldn't bother, or id just buy one on the retail market.

This isn't to say they're not nice bags as I do think theyre lovely!

Barrysmintybiscuits · 26/04/2023 15:43

Resale*!

I don't believe in the Hermes 'journey' narrative. You can find plenty of threads discussing it here: https://forum.purseblog.com/forums/hermes.17/

Plenty of people talk to a SA and get a bag they like within a reasonable amount of time without having to buy other times.

I have bought a bag in Asia, no purchasing history but it was a newly opened store.

strawberryfluff · 26/04/2023 16:00

I find it fascinating too. The whole having an appointment to be offered a bag which you then turn down or buy. It could be hideous!

If you don’t mind used then Sabrina at luxury promise has sone amazing Hermes bags from about 8000

strawberryfluff · 26/04/2023 16:07

Oh I don't want one sorry - I don't have that sort of cash to spend. I was just interested in the whole culture and theatre surrounding buying them.

It's similar to Rolex culture! Again you can have a wish list, the more you spend the more watches you'll be offered (and the more desirable ones too) - the waitlist to buy a submariner can be years depending on your colour-way and purchasing history, I think we waited about 6 months because of our past accounts with the AD. It's all a game!

Isn't it just

strawberryfluff · 26/04/2023 17:12

I imagine the whole performance of getting on is part of owning one? So just buying one second hand isn't going to be the same? Or are they genuinely lovely bags?

savoycabbage · 26/04/2023 17:48

I didn't know this was a thing! Now I'm completely fascinated.

So, you have to sort of woo the lady in the shop until she might allow you to buy one sort of bag of her choosing?

I know right! It's like a secret club. I think you have to buy enough to then be offered a bag appointment where they interview you then give you a bag you can take or leave and it might be a good bag or a not so good one. Like pokemon.

I have only ever been offered a bag in the leather type and colourway i requested. Never randomly offered a colour i didnt want. I have a good SA that notes my requests and then they usually come up for purchase and i decide whether to go for it or not.

savoycabbage · 26/04/2023 17:56

It is like Pokemon!

I'm agog but also I'm enjoying the pomp and circumstance of it all.

Did you have to wait until they offered you and appointment? Did you have to buy lots of other stuff first

I need more! What do you mean she notes your requests? Is this a formal process? Or do you have to drop subtle hints?

At my closest store, not London. I have never had an appointment, and i just see the lady i know and ask her to put me down for whatever it is i am looking for at that particular time. No mystery really, or at least i dont think so!

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 26/04/2023 18:02

I had a few Hermes items previously and now have a few bags, but I wouldn’t say i have bought loads of things.
