Which Pearl Necklace?

Hi,

First ever Mumsnet post on a subject I have definitely overthought. I would like to purchase an inexpensive short faux pearl necklace, to wear with a shirt or a t shirt. Not after a preppy look, just something current and fresh to lighten up the face on Teams calls and not look drained by an occasional black top. So, the questions are - do I look for a white or cream / ivory and two or three rows? Examples:

this one also seems odd - bigger pearls are usually on the longest row, does this look “wrong” or actually positively different?

Thank you.

Thought the sex topic was back in active for a minute there!

Didn't think I was a fan but some of those real ones linked are really nice

@Mama1978 PP's are right that pearls aren't as expensive now you can get cultivated ones. A small string wouldn't break the bank.

JoeLovesGina · 26/04/2023 20:50

Wear a long string "doubled over" like we did in the 80s 🤣

Kyoto Pearl have some more contemporary necklaces. I like the freshwater pearls

How much do cultivated ones cost? Can you give examples of necklaces?

flossypots · 26/04/2023 21:14

Vivienne Westwood do some nice ones. Can get on vinted pre-loved for a good price.

I don’t know if you’ve already chosen one OP, but have you considered one of the irregular pearl necklaces (example attached) that are trendy right now? I think they’re also called rice pearls or seed pearls. They look nice but also a bit less formal than traditional round pearls.

I’d also recommend getting a cultivated pearl necklace rather than an artificial bead one since the cultivated ones are so inexpensive now. A friend of mine got a nice looking one for £25 on Amazon of all places. 😂

I worked in a very male dominated outdoorsy type environment for many years, and always wore a string of pearls. It was a good year before someone explained to me what the remarks (I'd like to give you a string of pearls/I gave my wife a string of pearls/Does your husband give you a string of pearls often?) actually meant!!! Haha .... I felt stupid, but I laugh along with the remarks now. I have a lot of jewellery, but always wear a single string of pearls. The pearls get the most compliments, strangely. My favourite set (I have three) is a single strand, collar bone length, graduated and cream. I do a bleaching procedure on my teeth (through my dentist!), and only wear white pearls when my teeth are the same colour - at their whitest, otherwise I don't like the comparison.

Get your pearls, start receiving compliments!

Now that is some seriously thorough thinking!

I don't have any pearls, but now, if i ever consider it, i'll be worrying about the colour comparison with my teeth! 😂

Seriously, I know I sound potty, but white pearls can make the wearers teeth look a little dull in comparison!! 😚
