Summery dresses that are suitable for work?

TealOwl · 18/04/2023 20:33

Looking for suggestions please for nice summery dresses that are suitable for the office (dress code is fairly casual, allowed to wear jeans etc if we want) - but would want a dress to be not see-through or sheer, no strappy or sleeveless - short sleeves preferred. Budget in the Next/M&S/Zara sort of category, general high street prices.

I’m early 30s, fairly slim and almost 6ft so nothing too short either I guess which is hard to come by for me 😂

I just bought this

ilovesushi · 26/04/2023 09:12

@JoanThursday1972 @strawberrysunrise just seen two dresses with pockets on the sugarhill site that I am poised to order. I live in trousers and jeans but I feel I could wear these.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 26/04/2023 09:25

Thank you @Kyse that looks ideal . It looks good on you too !

If anyone is planning on getting any of the Mountain Warehouse ones mentioned, they have a code on their site today for 20% off - SPRING20

Only valid on their own brand stuff. Seems to work on the sale items

Exactly the type of dresses I’m looking for. Great price too. Thank you for the link. What’s the sizing like? Big/small/just right?

These were fine for me, although last year I had to change one for a size up and my Mum’s usual size was a bit snug on her. They are really comfortable to wear.

Latenightreader Thanks for the link to MW dresses. They're just my style and with the discount a great deal. Was pleased to see they ship internationally - didn't know this brand.

Thank you. I’ll order 2 in my normal size and the same a size bigger then.

Thanks for the info

I like the Mountain Warehouse dresses, however; I'm 5'2" and I find some of them too short for anything but beach type holidays! Certainly wouldn't consider them long enough for work... or for anyone taller than me!

EdithStourton · 30/04/2023 19:34

If you're tall, Albaray do some lovely stuff in cotton, and most of their dresses HAVE POCKETS!

A bit pricer than the High St, though, but not mad.

PopsicleHustler · 30/04/2023 20:05

I lately came across vibetag.com which is a social media site (new) and have been on there shopping on their market and came across loads of lovely bits. They're on Instagram too . They have a page called shopping frenzy. I believe its shoppingfrenzy2023
They do all sizes and shapes, a different range of things for all ladies, dresses for work and casual and various sleeves lengths, ideal for tall women as well because they do lots of midi dresses.

Thanks so much @NojudgementGem and others for the SilkFred rec! I didn't know that brand and it has the most gorgeous dresses! The widest maternity range I've seen too, and very reasonable prices!

NojudgementGem · 30/04/2023 22:07

Glad you found some things you liked! I’ve bought loads from there that can be worn in different ways with sandals, trainers, heels, etc so perfect for work and weekends too

Love the swooshy Matalan dress up thread, so I went to try it on.

It is lovely: nice soft material. It felt gorgeous on but the print made me look like a walking sofa as I don’t think it worked with my pale blonde hair. I regrettably had to put it back but think it would look really good on someone with fewer curves and maybe darker hair.

Galliano · 01/05/2023 09:48

I’m 5ft 10 or 11 (depends who is measuring). Scotch and Soda is a great make for me as Dutch and dresses are very long, have waists in right place, sleeves that reach wrists etc. Some of their clothes are a touch too European but have had tons of dresses. I buy some direct from the scotch and soda website or London shop, but also keep an eye on sports direct and buy last season’s stock at ridiculous reductions

I was in Mountain Warehouse this morning. Most of the dresses would be too short for me at 5'7".

DailyEnergyCrisis · 01/05/2023 15:07

I second Nobody’s child. They really suit tall people (not me unfortunately!).
