Vitamin C serum

Youmeandacupoftea · 14/04/2023 08:50

Can anyone recommend a vitamin C serum please?

I’ve used The Ordinary’s one in the past but found it a bit greasy so looking for one that absorbs well.

I’m approaching 40 and have a fairly good skincare routine in place (SPF50 daily, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and aha toner) but this is a step that’s missing and I think I need to introduce it now as from what I’ve read on here my skin is likely to change as I hit my 40s 🥴

Thanks all

Superfacialist and revolution both do ones that I like. The first feels lighter to apply, although I prefer the second.

Geek and Gorgeous C-glow, make sure to buy it from their UK site if you're in the UK otherwise postage will cost more than the serum.

Thank you! I’ll look at both of those x

The dermalogica one is amazing, but expensive. I got it on offer in a gift box from look fantastic and it was a really good deal. I absolutely love it and can really see a difference but I can't really afford to buy it full price, however if price is less of an issue I highly recommend it!

If you want to splash a bit of cash the absolute best one I’ve ever used is the Medik8 C Tetra Luxe. I’ve got very oily skin but it sank in like a dream and never made me greasy.

JMTWords · 14/04/2023 10:12

As a contrast I hated the Medik8 serum - I have combination skin and it made me oily - so I switched back to the Superdrug vitamin c booster I’d used and loved before!

dietcokelime · 14/04/2023 10:21

I've been converted to the beauty pie capsules! The Vitamin C and E ones (and some others) they're fab, so easy to use and great prices. I've noticed an improvement in my skin too so it's win win.

beguilingeyes · 14/04/2023 10:23

I like the Sali Hughes one. Cheap as chips also.

Definitelysometime · 14/04/2023 10:31

I really like the medik8 one too, on about my fourth bottle now!

Youmeandacupoftea · 14/04/2023 10:32

Thanks so much everyone, a good few suggestions for me to look into x

The best one on the market is skinceuticals ferulic C but its pricey. You really get what you pay for though for this one.

Squiblet · 14/04/2023 12:42

I've got one from somewhere or other but it never seems to make any difference to my skin. Do they have a cumulative effect? as in, do you have to apply serum every day in order to see a difference over time? Or can you just put it on when, say, you're going out and need a quick skin boost?

Usernamen · 14/04/2023 13:06

Kiehl’s ‘Powerful-Strength Line reducing concentrate’ is my favourite Vitamin C serum. Goes on like a dream, not oily/sticky at all.

This one is fab.

I love the glow that vit c serum gives to my skin but I'm yet to find one that doesn't give me spots.

LeatherSkirt82 · 14/04/2023 21:26

I second Medik8 - the best I tried so far.

missmoon · 14/04/2023 21:42

I also use Medik8 C Tetra, it’s great.

Kvetching · 14/04/2023 21:48

I usually buy on repeat the Dermalogica Biolumin Vitamin C, but recently (in a rush as was going away) bought the Revolution one from Superdrug which was about £90 cheaper. Can’t say the Dermalogica one is that much better.

Lollypop701 · 14/04/2023 21:50

I have oily skin and love Medik8 so who knows

Ratonastick · 15/04/2023 07:28

I’ve tried all sorts and never found one that didn’t make me feel greasy. A friend recommended The Body Shop one, which isn’t somewhere I normally look for skin care, but it’s great and goes really well under make up.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 15/04/2023 08:40

Medik8 is very good
Skinceuticals is better
Perricone MD Vit C Ester is the best I've tried. You sometimes find it half price in TK Maxx, so I load up when I do.

Revolution do C a good one but I found the texture a bit gritty and oily to be truly pleasurable to use, but it really works for the price

PerpetualStudent · 15/04/2023 12:39

Which ordinary one are you using? I had a nightmare with their 20+% cream one (gave me perioral dermatitis) but recently started using their 12% more serum-y one and had good results - doesn’t pill under creams, oil or makeup either and I’ve never found another Vit C serum which does that!

Inkey List have a good one too, but it does pill under other products

Their 23% suspension with HA was the one I used.
Thanks for the recommendation of their 12% one, I love The Ordinary products so will maybe try that one and how you’ve described it is exactly what I’m looking for.
Thanks for everyone’s recommendations, it’s been really useful x

I’m eyeing up the Skinceuticals serum because it’s 15% vitamin C (by comparison, the Kiehl’s one I use is 12.5%) and has great reviews. Is it worth the £165 price tag? 🧐

LadyOfTheCanyon · 15/04/2023 18:54

@Usernamen

You can get other 15% VitC serums for much less than the Skinceuticals one but there's just something about it that makes it a dream to use. No7 serum is quite good and is 15% - I do rate it quite highly but it doesn't give me the gleaming skin that Skinceuticals, Perricone and Medik8 do.

People on here also really rate the Geek and Gorgeous one as being as good as Skinceuticals- I believe to keep it stable you need to keep it in the fridge, which is what has put me off using it, so I can't comment. But there are a few other threads about Vit C where you'll find the details and opinions.
