My favourites are

Diptique - Eau Duelle
Chanel - Coco

Philosophy amazing grace for daytime when I don't want a perfume more a skin scent.

I tried the new Diptique Papier but sadly absolutely hated it, reminded me of Kenzo flowers.

I'm looking for something less mainstream, so not high street necessarily. Unusual would be great, I love warm, musky, woody scents.

Can anyone help? Thank you 😊

Try Prada Femme Intense. I just love it.

Defiantlynot41 · 12/04/2023 16:47

Woody:
Jo Malone English Oak and Hazelnut
Chanel Sycomore

Wild card
Penhaligon Halfeti

Mmm replica by the fireplace

YSL Caftan is lush. Woodsy, Amber, warm and cosy.
Armani Magenta Tanzanite.
Armani Ambre Eccentrico

If you have a Selfridges near you they often have cracking perfume selections.

Wemustdothecardiobutwehatesit · 12/04/2023 17:04

Also try Serge Lutens for less mainstream smells

Iwantmyoldnameback · 12/04/2023 17:17

For musky smells try anything by Narcisco.

tobee · 12/04/2023 19:01

I love Chanel coco.

Some of my favourite perfumes are probably Imaginary Authors Cape Heartache, Le Labo Santal 33 and Miller Harris Lumière Dorée. I'd throw in The Dark Heart of Old Havana by 4160 Tuesdays for the lol!

WildFlowerBees · 12/04/2023 19:40

Thank you! Some really nice suggestions.

Eau Duelle, Diptique is in my top 4!!! These are the others which each offer something a bit different, although none are especially woody or musky so it depends how much we crossover in taste! (please forgive my awful scent descriptions)

Love Don't Be Shy, Kilian - sweet, orange blossom, marshmallow, heady
Mimosa & Cardamom, Jo Malone - light, floral, smooth
Apple Brandy On The Rocks, Kilian - fresh, vibrant, spiced, rich

There’s a Van Cleef & Arpels one that gets recommended a lot on S&B that I finally smelled in John Lewis the other week and it was lovely.

I can’t for the life of me remember what it’s called though, sorry OP - hopefully someone knows which one I mean!

Habanita by Molinard. Fuzzy, warm, woody.
Memoirs of a Trespasser by Imaginary Authors. Vanilla, earth, woods, smoke.
Alaia Paris - bit of a wildcard but a really lovely woody, soft suede-y violet (and a beautiful bottle!)

MYSTERIOUSGIRLONLINE · 12/04/2023 21:40

Jovan Musk is gorgeous though my favourite has got to be Body Shop and they do different scents that contain musk, white musk being my all time favourite and the matching shower gels, body lotions etc all come in a gift basket. Worth every penny!

OrlandointheWilderness · 12/04/2023 22:02

I've just bought j'adore inifinissimi.

They sound lovely

I am sure you would love Frederic Malle's Portrait of a Lady! It's very special.

dudsville · 12/04/2023 22:28

There are two scents for men in loccitane at the moment that i twit liked, one's got ginger, both are woody but citrussy. I'm reamly tempted by them in a way the rest of the men's scentsand the women's didn't grab me. I'm also really liking channel's sycomore.

WildFlowerBees · 13/04/2023 08:42

I like the sound of nearly every recommendation, is there a good fragrance sample website that's reliable?

I'm not a fan of vanilla so was really surprised when I smelt Eau Duelle and loved it immediately. I love that it's a scent for me you don't get a waft of it as I walk past its only if you're close to me. Im not a fan of very heavy scents that knock you out as you walk past. Although Coco packs a punch I know.

Thanks so much, I'm looking forward to have a sniff!

get a sample box - i got one from the perfume society. recommended on here. i've really enjoyed trying them out and found several new ones i love that i had never even heard of before

mewkins · 13/04/2023 09:01

I would try some masculine scents too. I love terrestrial d'hermes - woody wit orange blossom. Also commes des garçons Kyoto for an incensey smell.

Serge lutens Chergui is good but rather sweet.

Portrait of a lady as recommended by a pp is lovely.

WildFlowerBees · 13/04/2023 10:25

I've ordered samples of the following,

Gaiac 10
Portrait of a lady
By the fireplace
Whispers in the library
Jo loves Mimosa & Cardamom
Memoirs of a trespasser.

I'll report back! There's more suggestions here I want to try. Glad I asked.

Thought I'd update quickly, my samples arrived. I don't like any of them! Maybe it's the time of year and they're just a bit too intense going into summer. All of the just a bit too masculine. Memoirs of a Trespasser was probably the only one that came close but had no femininity to it at all.

Back to the drawing board!

If you're looking for more summery scents, have a look at things like

Aerin - Waterlily Sun
Hermes - Un Jardin sur Le Nil
Guerlain- Basilic Mandarine
Byredo - Sundazed

Overitx · 21/05/2023 06:20

santal 33 le labo.

marshmallowmatcha · 21/05/2023 07:31

Juliette has a gun musc invisible

Portish · 21/05/2023 07:45

Dandelion and Fig by Shay and Blue, it's a very soft scent and I feel very cosy when wearing it. It's like a comforting hug!
