Pixie cut- talk me out of it

As in the title. I LOVE pixie cuts. On other women! My hair just reached past my shoulders, for the past few years I've chopped it to a bob at this stage, always regretting it immediately. Please can someone help me grow it out without chopping it and having to live with a paper bag on my face. I could pull off a pixie, but I wouldn't style it or trim regularly, ending up looking like a sad mushroom. Why do I always get the itch to cut it!!

What about a pob? Basically a long pixie / short bob. Looks good for longer.

Eventysaurus · 07/04/2023 12:28

I think I might go for this. Because then if it sucks - it won't take long to grow into a short bob which I already know I love.

Or if I love this, I can get it shorter.

Lots of people will egg you on, but they often don’t look very flattering. Only very thin, beautiful people with perfect bone structure can really pull them off (Audrey Hepburn has been mentioned, but also Hallie Berry, Winona Ryder, Natalie Portman, that sort of person) and even then, most of them would look better with longer hair. But at the end of the day, do what makes you happy.

I disagree with this. I’m slim but not beautiful with an ‘ahem’ strong nose and just had mine cut into a long pixie. Key was having length around the nape area. But the layers really lift me and make my face look a better shape. I admire long hair very much and would love to suit it but my hair goes straggly and my face looks saggy and heavy. So I had a bob for years-my new cut has got rid of the mumsy look.

A well cut pixie crop really frames your face beautifully, but you need to have the right type of face and not many women have. Even some models and actresses cannot carry one off. You need cheekbones, a long neck, nicely rounded skull shape and a clear jawline. But I'm really not a fan of shoulder length or longer hair on adult women, it just looks so dreary and just hangs there. It doesn't frame their face and just doesn't flatter in any way, it's just there.

I think I would do it, but I won't because I wouldn't keep up with the trims, and I would hate the grow out phase ;)
I'm clearly going through a 'meh' length right now. I think I might colour it darker / get a fringe instead of going full pixie. My hair is very healthy and shiny and it would be a shame to cut it off.
I do not have an elfin face, more of a round one with round nose, so I run a risk of looking like a young boy.
Saying that I think pixie can look great and not always worse than long hair.

I love fringes too! I always find it too tempting to trim myself and then ruin it 😂

jannier · 07/04/2023 12:31

Do you have big ears? That's always a good reminder not to.

Potaytoe5 · 07/04/2023 12:57

I have small ears, long neck, good cheekbones.... but also round face, round nose and smallish eyes! So not exactly Winona Rider.
I'm not sure about the whole 'adult women only look good in x hair length' concept, but I appreciate opinions might differ :)
I don't think I will be going pixie for now.... maybe when I am sick of long hair.

@MyGhastIsFlabbered Wow! What an awesome cut. No wonder you love it. Really suits you, and brings out your amazing eyes!

Eyesopenwideawake · 07/04/2023 13:12

You don't have to be young or beautiful to have a pixie cut - look!

I had a pixie cut for a long time and loved it, but I didn’t love how quickly my hair grew (although that was a bonus when I decided to grow it out) and the way it felt ready for a trim after 3 weeks.

Crikey, basically we can’t have short hair but we can’t have mid length or long hair either.Grin

I did it a couple of years ago and loved it. It was enormously freeing. Don't give a shite what people think of my bone structure or neck or anything else for that matter.

And then it will be "and only certain women can have bobs". Urrgh.

I hate these threads. Always full of women calling other women ugly.

Bullshot · 07/04/2023 13:56

I say give it a go.
my hair has been all lengths, colours and styles over the years.
Hair grows so if you really don’t like it then it’s not the end of the world

I'm not a fan of pixies because unless you are a tiny petite, young beautiful with delicate features it just looks manly and aging.

JoyceDivision79 · 07/04/2023 14:04

MyGhastIsFlabbered that pixie cut really really suits you and brightens up your face, your longer hair seemed to be dragging it down
. You also look similar to me and now you're giving me the pixie twitch!

catinboots simply said what many of us are thinking.
It made her look decades older and more masculine.

Blueuggboots · 07/04/2023 14:07

Mine is a VERY short pixie cut. I get out of the shower, rub it dry with a towel, run some texturising gum through it and I'm done....not high maintenance but it does need cutting every 6-8 weeks!

HarlanPepper · 07/04/2023 14:09

Here's mine at its most brutal. I liked looking androgynous and this was probably my favourite length, but I was at the barber's every 3 weeks for a freshen up, which was a total pain in the arse. And then all the young team started cutting about with skin fades so it was over for me. After this I buzzed it off myself every couple of weeks for a year or so, then slowly began the grow out.

Of course anyone can have any haircut but it's a fact of life that not everything suits everyone and some shapes of faces and bodies look better in certain things than others. Don't see it as calling someone ugly, it's preventing them from looking ugly. This is style and beauty board not #bekind board. This is the place to voice fashion and style opinions not hand out fake compliments.
